Now it seems like everything has to be a totally new game. I think Remedy could have milked Max Payne these last couple of years just hiring 2 guys to make maps and put them out every 6 momths.
Honestly that was really the biggest draw to Max Payne, the bullet time was nice, but the great NY locations recreated in the game gave the world of max payne life.
I'm not knocking a sequel, thats great. But I think theres money to be made in mission packs again and added value for the customer who buys the original <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Wait a sec... So you're complaining about companies not milking their products with expansion packs??? Hold up I'll call a doctor.
Anyway, I have this feeling that this sequel won't offer anything new and will feel more like an expansion pack, which does not bode well. I hope I'm wrong though.

Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne for the PC is expected to hit retail shelves Fall 2003 <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">As said, that IS a darn fast release! images/icons/shocked.gif
Looks like yet another game to get this fall! images/icons/smile.gif
This fast release is actually very unexpected to me. I thought it would take at least until mid 2004...
And I was not the only one: I've read game-magazines estimating end 2004 / start 2005 ! (Adding some sort of "WID" or "you know 3D Realms" remark images/icons/rolleyes.gif )
My oh my, are those guys proven wrong!

...Too bad my PC is hopelessly out of date though, I'm sure it's not able to run MP2. Damn I need a new computer soon graemlins/doh.gif
Just out of curiosity, what do you think the minimum requirements for Max Payne 2 will be this time around? Or can you reveal stuff like that at the moment?

Max Payne 2 "The Fall of Max Payne"
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Noooo, I think I just figured out part of the story just from the title.. Max Payne can't die, Remedy tell me it isn't so!!! Sounds like this is going to be the last Max Payne sequel. images/icons/frown.gif
Thanks for providing the info Remedy, I'll be looking forward to this title.. Peace be with ya.

I hope I'm wrong though.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm not complaining, i'm saying that companies use to do that successfully. In the case of Quake and Half Life, the expansion paks were given to other companies to work on. It seems to me if you go to all the trouble of making a new engine, you should put out some expansions for 15-20 dollars.

Good God, 2003 truly is the year of the sequels. First HL2 now MP2.
Also, I think a more interesting title+story would be The Fall of the Inner Circle or The Inner Circle or The Fall of Woden or The Fall of Alfred Woden.
The list goes on and on...

How is 3D Realms involved in this version of Max Pyane? I didn't see any mention of them in the press release.
Another question, What the heck is the difference from Take-Two and Rockstar Games? So Rockstar publishes the game, but what is Take-Two in this? Is Rockstar just some made up marketing pseudonym that Take-Two likes to publish under? Ahhh the confusion! What is the need for this other label, can't Take-Two publish under their own name? And hasn't Take-Two published under their own name before? Well at least I know Remedy is still the developer. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

MP definitely had its upsides; the bullet time effect was refreshing, the game had a nice atmosphere to it and some of the locations were novel (I particularly liked the rock club).
I think the last part of the game summed up both the pros and cons however - some really impressive architecture and set pieces (mostly the helicopter scene), marred by the excruciating "die, reload, face the exact same (unfair) situation a million times until you finally get through, save, die, etc" style.
To me, MP highlighted the echec of the rigidly scripted gameplay mechanic.
I hope the boys from Finland have found a way to remedy this (har, har) and additionally manage to offer a lot more depth to the game, otherwise I foresee more frustration about what could have been.

IMO, I'd like to see the game entitled "The Fall of Max Payne" with "Max Payne 2" being no more than a subtitle.

When I first played through the game I replayed almost every shootout until I got through them all with full health. It was fun. It really brought into spotlight the whole action-movie thing. Hell, it was almost like playing a puzzle game, trying to figure out the best moves for a given situation.
And about the name: If Take2 has another sequel planned for 2005, I don't think Max is going to die. Unless of course, the sequel is a prequel? Or maybe this first sequel is a prequel, the fall meaning it's the autumn before the worst winter in New York.. Who knows? images/icons/tongue.gif

Well..
"The Fall of Max Payne".. yeah.. I'm not sure about the title..
I heard someone else mention Max Payne 2 "When it's done..."
But so far I know some of the key holes...
Alfred Wooden is having a hard time.. I can tell you that..
Max will black mail him or something because he has some evidence.(Max wants to get outside jail.). (Yes, the videotape he found on Alfred Woodens desk in the Aasgard-building.)
And those stuff on the tape is ofcourse candy dawn giving him the dirty pleasures..
Anyway.. Wooden wants that tape... from Max dead fingers...
Max wants to get out... and Wooden fail his promises to MAX.
And Vlad... he seems to be stuck in between...

since i'm austrian (which means german speaking) i might be wrong, but i just dont get why everyone connects "the fall" with "dying".
couldnt the title also somehow mean, the fall as in, the complete waste of his life, becoming some drug junkie, crying for his family 10 hours a day. just trying to pass each single day without having any meaning nomore?
something like that? thats what makes sense to me and would allow a heroic comeback in mp3 if there will ever be.

Hey Remedy, excellent news! Fall 2003 is much better than that brutal 4 year wait for the first one (the old fans know what I mean). Just thought I'd let you guys know again that Max Payne is just incredible! The best action game I've ever played.
...i recently upgraded to a 3.06ghz beast of a computer and I'm playing Payne with every detail at full in 6x anti-aliasing and 16x anistropic filtering...it's...just...gorgeous! images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

Sure, a nice movie reference, but I always thought of Max as an AAA-class action movie, not a B-movie.

it seems that rockstar games is jealous of 3drealms......i mean....how can max payne sink lower if hes lost his family/ his job/ his best friend/ and hes in jail.
well unless he gets caught working 4 the russian mafia ( cos of his new Russian friend ) and that old guy bails him out for another mission....
its going to b kinda hard to explain how max payne can fall neways .....

I don't understand this...people are told right from the start that Max Payne 2 will be out in late 2003, and when there isn't a huge amount of news, they assume that the work isn't being done?! I guess I'm one of few who are not surprised to see Remedy do what they said they'd do all along, not needing constant reassurance of their efforts.
Still, where are my screenshots? I can't live without screenshots...and they had BETTER be of Sam Lake...

I agree 100%. When Max Payne was announced, the title referred to two things : maximum pain and as well as the protagonist's name. Now its kinda screwed up and I dont wanna even talk about it. Imagine this, Jar Jar Binks : The fall of Jar Jar Binks..on a second thought, dont...

Great news!! The sub-title seems somewhat corny, but there's no doubt that it will be a great game nonetheless. I still think that "Max Payne 2: New Yorker" and "Max Payne 2: Electric Boogaloo" were great titles. images/icons/smile.gif

The console versions.. no idea. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">A week of difference is not relevant...I'm warried if they'll release it a month of more later in Europe.

Which is why my Fallout 2 is the US version. And a couple of my other game boxes say "Not for sale outside the US/Asia/whereever".

"Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne for the PC is expected to hit retail shelves Fall 2003."
HUH? This year? I wasn't expecting Max Payne 2 until about 2005 - no joke.

Steve: they already have the engine, they just make new levels, story, and do improvements. Don't need 4 years to do that... Well 3DRealms would images/icons/tongue.gif

I see that most people are saying what I am feeling: The title "The Fall of Max Payne" is kinda Star Warsy.
So, here's an idea I brewed up after listening to a lot of hard rock....
Max Payne: The Fall
Why even add "Max Payne *2*" ? THe number 2 is kinda irrelevent, and I know that's how it's always done, but I think people can figure it out that it's a sequel. Why not just say,
The Sequel to Max Payne: The Fall of Maxy Pooh
I dunno, I kinda like it when they don't add a number, like, The Matrix: Reloaded or Dues Ex: The Invisible War.

i don't know if this is old... posted by Scott Miller:
"Regarding the game's lame title...
Blame Take-Two (a.k.a. Rockstar). Remedy and 3D Realms had named the game "The Fall of Max Payne." That's was it. No lame sequel number. Not too long. No colon. But, Take-Two, having bought the IP last year, now gets to make the final call on these matters, and their marketing department, I guess, believed that "The Fall of Max Payne" wouldn't quite get the message across, and so they prefixed "Max Payne 2:" to the title. Remedy and 3D Realms argued against this, but it's not our call anymore.
The end result is another oh-so-typical, very lame, and overly long, game title.
Scott Miller, 3DR"
