Tjall: his wife didn't walk around with guns you know... and she looked more Finnish, hahah... images/icons/tongue.gif
Is that Mona or something? And love story? WTF. If this turns into some soap opera shit I'm gonna be pissed. I was thinking more like Max was going to a federal-pound-me-in-the-ass prison and we'd get some shower action... erm, not really.
They'll show trailer and some screens. And it doesn't look like Max is "played" by Sam Lake (Sami Järvi) anymore by the looks of those shots.

Oh and BiXen, I don't think you have to worry about MP2 becoming a "My best friends wedding"/"Mickey Blue Eyes"/"[enter title of typical Hollywood lovestory here]"-type of love story. images/icons/grin.gif
It says FILM NOIR love story, so that means it'l be cool. images/icons/cool.gif

If she get's killed and he's going on some revenge rampage again I'm voting for the name Deathwish VI: Max Payne... images/icons/rolleyes.gif
To be honest I'm a bit disappointed with the news, hopefully that woman doesn't have a crappy role, at least she'll be noir, that's positive, typically women in games are stupid as hell. Hopefully we don't have to play as her.

I hope this won't turn out to be total shit.
And I sure as hell hope there's no character switching.
And I really, really, really, really, really, really, really hope this is just some bad joke.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">That's because of the relative immaturity of the game business.
Even when we get to play an "ass-kicking" female, for some reason she still has to have cup E size breasts, a non-existent waistline and bullet-proof armour consisting of a halter top and hotpants.
There are alternatives though, Mara Jade in JK: Mysteries of the Sith was one and it looks like Alyx Vance in HL2 (although she's 'only' an NPC sidekick) will be another.
I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with playing a female character or having one as a companion.

But I do agree that it is a mistake to switch characters, if they actually did it (Baskinator would become very sad!) images/icons/grin.gif
When I think of Max, I think of him as Sami Järvi (A.K.A. Sam Lake) and not some rich ass spoiled hollywood actor.

As for the title, the fall of max payne. To me that says everything is not going swimmingly. I'm thinking hes having trouble with Woden bailing him out or something...

the guy in the black n white logo thing with the gal is definetly sami aka max payne. i mean they have been making mp2 nearly 2 or more yrs now n obviously since then, the artists were 2 draw up a cover to promote the sequal/prequal whatever the game will be and since then, sami had grown his hair a lil long over time and forgot to have a trim on the hair so he had ppl have it the way it is. its sami with a longa hair as max payne.
the gal next to him is mona cos she's a vengful femme fatale and she n max 1st met when he took on the killers and the fella who chanted "the flesh of fallen angels" blah blah blah level and they had a certain chemistry there when they sipped a drink together until she slipped a mickey in max i.e. she put sumthing in his drink and made him go thru sum dream sequence or sumthing. she did that so he wont stop her from going afta the mobsters that would wipe her out.
their paths will cross again tho, now they'll work together to bring down a bigger threat to all. and probably sparks will fly between them and give the game personality and character.
it could be likely that you can play as 2 characters in mp2: the love of payne, just like in lara croft: angel of darkness where you play as the kurt guy as well as lara and you play in different perspectives to advance the story more.
so like you play as max and have levels specific to max as you play as him and when you pick mona you play other different similair levels and get a different perspective at the same time, just like enter the matrix when you play as ghost or niobe, mgs2 snake or raiden, tenchu 3 with rikimara, ayame or tessu, onimusha 1 and 2 with the main character and the other participating players as well, you play as them to get access to levels that the main guy/gal cant get to. so it gives you total freedom and explore levels and environments that doesnt restrict you to a linear path but have many ways of getting to that path.
anyone who says "playing as a female is f**ked" is stupider than their mum, cos females rock in video games. i even play as a female in sum fighting and skating games cos you get to see them jiggle and move and see them animate so well in the games:) plus i love it when i play my female player in tony hawk 4 where you can customise how they look and everything. this gal i made, she's all buxom and curvy and dark, bit like mona sax really images/icons/wink.gif
even if we do play as a female in mp2 so what? remember what mona was like in mp1? she was a badass and ready to pull a trigger and would neva have anyone in her way. now imagine playing as her and then having all the exclusive moves you can pull off while playing as her and maybe have a very different bullettime from max's.
i guess if mp has 2 players in it then i bet its gonna be soo compared to enter the matrix cos of the bulletime and have a male and female players to play as, as well as have better cooler graphics, maybe have hand to hand combat also. SWEET images/icons/grin.gif

neeek: I hope you are kidding.
I'm not saying playing females or having females in important roles sucks because I don't like women, because I do. I'm saying it because the geeks who make games think women only are big tits and a nice ass (just look at Duke's babes) images/icons/smile.gif Because of that they only create annoying female characters, which I hate. Same goes for most movies. I can't list many un-annoying women in either games or movies to be honest.
I don't think it's Sami, but I hope I'm wrong. We'll see in a month or 3. If you dress up Clint Eastwood from the 70s and put the silhouette over that pic it's exactly like him. And they also said they'd use real actors for all roles this time, that's another reason why they might not use Sami.
theHunted
05-15-2003, 06:02 AM
don't think you can tell anything about it just by those black and white lines. i also dont think it looks like Sam but that might be wrong.
anyway i remember remedy announcing "real actors" to be used as character models. because of the growing photorealism of games i thought this was quite predictible although i dont like that "progress". although propably none of the remedy staff will ever become model of the year or mr. universe, all of them look good enough for a computer game i think. you see those perfectly styled and perfect looking people every day in tv or ads. i kinda loved the mp1 characters because all of them have had their charme, while not being perfect (propably).
so i dont need no shitty hollywood beauties in a computer game. they should've spend the (the propably very high amount of) money on more important things.

"the geeks who make games think women only are big tits and a nice ass (just look at Duke's babes) Because of that they only create annoying female characters, which I hate."
how does having big tits and nice ass make them annoying? i dont get it. and anyway, i love it that they make them good hot in sum video games i mean like would you like it if they made duke nukem made the babes and strippers skinny and bony and FLAT?
besides, i love having 2 player games even if i have to play as a female, cos its a gameplay difference like when you play as a guy in whatever genre of games he would always be made to be stronger and a lil slower in his attacks as well as agility. whereas playing as females thesedays theyre made as quicker more agile but weaker in their attacks.
if the females in sum games turn out to be annoying it could be cos of the voice acting and how they move and animate.
btw mona sax did have a ponytail in the graphic novels. you just have to look again and see.

Getting back on topic, that wall sized poster was pretty much the only thing Max Payne 2 related for 99.9% of those of us who attended the show -I am not allowed to tell who was that lucky 0.1% but you are gonna hear from them soon-. I and Maniac were quite suprised once whe saw the poster, especially the "A Film Noir LOVE Story" bit. So what's the big deal with max's new girl guys? If anybody can pull this off on the plot with style is Sami Jarvi and all the Remedy guys. Besides, give the max a break, it has been a while since the last time had sex -no i mean heterosexual kind of sex, the prison love act doesn't count-. images/icons/grin.gif
So while we weren't able to get anything about MP2 we did managed to talk to Sami Jarvi, Mika Reini and Matias Myllyrinne from Remedy on the show. Pretty cool bunch of guys i may add. Wait till for sunday for the pictures.

The show was truly full of gamestoppers.
And by the way, it seems to me like they are gonna really promote this one as we get near to the release date. I've been walking around LA this week and most of the big boulevards of the city have posters featuring MP2, it's basically the same poster you all saw at e3, on a much smaller scale though.
