Here's my review...

Graphics:

Great textures and models...almost second to none. The lighting is almost perfect too. This game would be a little sweeter with bump mapping however. Seeing max payne with a new mug takes a little getting used to but you DO get used to it. I wish there was a little more mouth movement from max and more varied facial expressions through out the game. I give the graphics a.. 9/10

Gameplay:

If you liked max payne..you'll like this...nothing else to say really. It's like the orginal game on a suped up V trip...everything is better. I like the inclusion of the secondary attacks and a separate butten for them. I also like the ability to fire your guns while you're on the floor. Havocs physics is such an awsome addition to the series...every game should have it.

The series is an all out action game but i dont really like how enemies automatically sense you're there when you're within the vicinity. There should atleast be a tiny possibility of sneaking up on a guy and placing a bullet in his head. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Conversely, enemy AI adjusting to your play level is nice. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also, i can't seem to get used to bullet time 2.0...something about being faster that everyone else doesn't sit with me..but that's just my opinion..i realise most think differently about it .

This time..we not only get to interact with the environment (pipes...doors..boxes) but we also get to interact with NPC (non playable characters)...genious..lovin it. I give the gameplay a ...9/10

Sound:

I find the voices in the first game and this one to sound like the characters aren't really where they are in the game..but are in a closed room studio. There is this closed room sound to it...and bass...i cant really explain it. However...every other sound is what you'll expect from a next gen game. I give the sound a... 7/10

In closing...we've all been waiting for this game...so get it. It gets a 8.3/10 from me.

I mostly agree with you Yohance but I like the new bullettime, I just wish there was some more of the original in there to balance it out, who knows what the rest of the game will bring?

If I was PCGamer I would give this game a 97%.

i like it alot, defientely better then the first max

i just got to the beginning of part II, and am really liking the story (i wont say anything though, since this is a spoiler free post)

my favorite part has to be the physics...they are so realistic, and i just love knocking stuff down

For example, theres this one part where your in a fun house and you press a button a ball shoots out and knocks over a stack of barrells (and some tires and pieces of wood too)...it is so awesome to watch them all fall and land on top of each other...i spent like 5 minues just shooting the ball to see how it reacts http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, Half-Life got a 97%. The highest rating PCG has given is 98%, and that was to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I say Max Payne 2 gets 99% http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In the second level, theres a little truck that lifts things, that if you use it, it raises this wooden plank up and these 3 barrels roll around on top of it.

For the love of God, no one mentioned the dialogue that the characters speak.

Sometimes NPC chatter can go on for minutes, and it is really damn hillarious most of the times, too. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All I'll say is explore and interact with any characters you see. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

one thing I got annoyed during the game is that footstep sounds sound too small or weak.

Is there any way beefing up the volume of footstep sounds?

* great game (but short http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

I haven't finished it yet, (On part 1, chapter 6), but here are my impressions so far:

Graphics (on 9800pro, 4xAA, 8xAF, max det.):

Textures are the best in any game to date. They are absolutely stunning. Facial models are also the best in any released game. There are also many other nifty graphical effects that make the game explode with style and uniqueness. I love the graphics!

Gameplay:

The feel of Max is on par with MP1. The physics certainly add incredible amounts of realism and fun. I love how characters react to bullets with ragdoll (joints snapping back, flying in the air, etc...). Bullettime 2.0 takes a little getting used to but I now like it much better than MP1.

Story:

The addition of an in-depth story is making a huge difference for me. I love it!

I'll reserve my final score for when I finish the game, but based on what I've seen, everyone should be playing this game.

I only care for Quality, doesn't matter if you need to make a real short game to assure the same level of greatness throught the whole game.

More often then not, long games offer the same content but streched out and diluated throught 10 more levels, needlessly i might add because sometimes i can't even finish the game up.

Make the game as long as you can but make sure you are creating the best you can FIRST.

Quality and quantity are not mutually exclusive.

At any rate, is the sequel at least longer than the original?

Quality and quantity are not mutually exclusive.

Ideally they are not, but in a pratical sense it's true, content quality should always prevail over quantity.

If you can accomplish both more power to your game, but your first priority should always be about making a quality product.

Unfortunetly the sequel looks shorter than the original for me. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

* I finished the game on detective mode about 8 hours.

Is it any good? Yes, but imo there could be something more in the game.. It's just too much mp1-like. No offence, I loved mp1 and it literally blew my mind, but this is just too much the same... Only thing what I noticed what was really "new", was the blurring effect in cinematic shots.. And of course the plot, seems interesting http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
