Hi,

Despite the RMD info post, i'm getting this error message and can't seem to fix it. I've tried all the tips in the RMD post, as well as reading the readme and doing all of that. I have a Geforce Ti 4200 (and a P4 2.26 and MSI mobo, with 512 mb RAM) with the latest NVidia Detonator Drivers (52.13). I have directX 9.0b.
Any ideas?

Damien

Has that driver set been WHQL certified and released on Nvidia's website yet? If not, you may want to uninstall it and use the driver set from their website. It's probably the latest one with which the game was tested.

No it's not, but i've tried both (i.e. the uncertified detanator 53 and the certified Nvidia 45.23) and neither have worked.
Thanks for the reply though,
Damien

Do you have Dualview installed?
On my GF4MX it made a difference which display adapted was selected in the MP2 opening settings screen, it wouldn't run with the default dualview, but normal worked fine.

I am having the same problem only it is with a Radeon 9700 Pro. I have followed the steps in the readme, contacted technical support, and did what the post on this forum says, but I still haven't been able to play max payne 2. Any help on the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Just to throw in my 2 cents....

I have a 9700 Pro (running Catalyst 3.8 drivers) on a MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo and I am running Windows XP Home. I installed MP2 yesterday with no problems and everthing is working perfectly.

I have a Athlon 2800 XP. 1 GB RAM. SB Audigy. XP Home (SP1, I have all critical updates and all recommended updates except for the .net update). On my K7N2 mobo I have latest BIOS and other chipset updates from MSI.

I installed MP2 from my USB Plextor CD-R drive with no problem. I do not have ANY other programs running when I installed and when playing MP2. No crashes. No problems. I did not change any settings on my computer or in MP2 (in MP2 everything was set to "HIGH".) I run my computer in 1024x768 and I play MP2 in the same mode.

Does your computer have an older, integrated graphics card in addition to your newer card? It's possible the game is detecting the older card, instead of your newer one. You may need to go into the Device Manager and completely disable it.

No, unfortunatley not, i only have 1 Graphics card - the Geforce 4 4200.
Of course the Geforce 4 isn't actually specifically designed for DirectX9... but then only the new generation of Geforce FXs and Radeons are, so surely the error message isn't literal anyway...

DX9 compatible and a DX9 graphics card is not the same thing.

a Graphics card is DX9 compatible when the dirver or the video card works with DX9 installed. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

Correct. As long as you have DirectX9 properly installed, any features your card doesn't support in hardware should be emulated through DirectX's software emulation layer.
What does the DirectX diagnostic tool say? (DX version number). Have you tried re-installing DirectX?

Yeah, i've reinstalled direct-x 9 a couple of times, and i've run DX-diag as that's what the readme suggested, although it didn't really say what to do if DXDIAG said everything was fine, which mine does. My DX version number is: 9.0b(4.09.0000.0902).
Thanks for clearing up the difference between a DX compatible card, and a DX designed card though.

I have a gefore 4200 and the game runs very well even with features turned high. I use the 43.4 drivers (4.3.4.5 it says in device manager). I usually don't update gfx drivers unless needed to.

I had the same problem in Win XP, so I tried setting the Application Compatability for MP2 to Win2K mode... and it works flawlessly now. To change the compat mode, just right click on the mp2 exe file and choose the compatability tab.

DoubleD you are the coolest person ever. Thank you so much for your suggestion of emulating it in win2k. Works perfectly now. Thank you soooooo much.

I have XP (SP1) DX 9b, and a 5900. And I, too, was getting the "You don't have a DX 9 video card" message.

Then I tried DoubleD's suggestion to run Max Payne 2 in W2K emunation.

It worked.

Thanks.

I tried the Win2000 compatibility trick and it didn't work for me.
Geforce 4 4200, P4 2.26, Detinator 53 drivers.

What drivers are you guys that had it fixed by using win2k compatibility using? And which exact GFX cards do you have?

These are my test setups:

Duron 1.3GHz, KT266A chipset mobo
384MB of SDRAM
GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB
WHQL Detonator 45.23
DX 9.0B
WinXP

K6-2 500MHz, VIA MVP3 chipset mobo
384MB of SDRAM
GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB
WHQL Detonator 45.23
DX 9.0B
WinXP

Both systems would give the error message after install, and setting their compatability mode to Windows 2000 made both systems play the game just fine, no crashes... As of this post, I'm about 3 levels into the third chapter, so I can pretty much say its stable. =)

Try getting rid of those damn 53.xx Dets, they're still buggy as hell, and they're only betas.
