I just bought a RADEON 9800 XT, and am thinking about selling my 5900 Ultra. I just would like your opinion on which looks better.

Also, if I walk up to a garage door, the textures shimmer. Is this an ATI bug, or does nVidia have this too?

Your time would be GREATLY appreciated. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm personally running MP2 on a GF4 Ti4600 with no issues. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Im running a TI4600 as well, but the shimmering he is refering to is DX9 coding, which we dont see. Our cards dont see mirrors at this point. I believe they used DX9 for all reflective properties.

I believe that is a Special Effect of DX9 which has never been in a game before.

Does this Shimmering look bad or just different ? Please elaborate:)

If I walk up to a garage door or a brick wall from far away, it looks as though the spaces between the bricks are moving; I guess "shimmering" was the wrong word.

I run an ATI RADEON 9800 XT; it supports DX9.

I believe that my brother had something like that in Counter-Strike where he would see the textures come into higher resolution and it looked very liquidy, when he was using a geforce 2 mx200. He never thought of it as a problem so never experimented to try to fix it.

Well rather recently, it was pointed out by some developers that ATI is now using cheats in their past couple Catalyst driver versions that use certain quality texture modes to get better FPS. So what once was an accusation ATI and their fanboys pointed at nVidia with - has now come full circle back to slap them in the face. B/C they are now doing the same unfortunately. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nelson.gif

yeah but modding wise you can't do volcalcing. if one wants to be able to make really good maps one needs a radeon http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nelson.gif
