Question about MP2

Hey, i'm new to the formus, please dont flame if this has alredy been posted. I was wondering, should I have beaten MP1 before I go onto MP2? Or does it really matter. Because this has happened to me before with other games, I didnt play the original and I go out and buy the sequel and I have no clue what is happeneing....Thanks for your advice! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Well... MP2 has an option in the main menu called "Previously", which basically recaps the action of Max Payne 1 and sets you up for the second.
For the FULL experience I'd recommend playing and beating the first game (especially since the game rocks), but you don't HAVE to have played it in order to understand the second. The second game's plot is self-contained and isn't dependent on the first game, but there ARE a *lot* of offhand references to the first game (irrelevant to the plot, but amusing to look for) that you'll miss if you haven't played the first game.

Well in my opinion Max Payne 2 wont be an very immersive experience if you havent played through the first game So yeah you should play through Max Payne 1 before playing Max Payne 2

Thanks for the quick responses. I *use* to have mp1, I got to the second or third dream sequencs (cant remember which). I basically got everything down up to that part.....then my CD cracked and was unplayable and I didnt know of cd crakcs at the time, so I had to uninstall it....I wanted to finish it so badly. So, is there any crutial parts that I would of missed? and how close would I of been to the end if tragety hadn't occured? Thanks.

Well... optionally, you could wait until my Max Payne novelization is done and read that. It'll recap the game line-for-line, bullet-for-bullet. Granted, you won't have the playing experience, but I daresay it'll be THE most accurate and complete "recap" of Max Payne 1.

How accurate is the "Previously" option in mp2? Will it just give a recap of the story, or will it go into detail like what happens ect ect...

It's accurate... but it's short. It pretty much says "I am Max Payne. My family was killed because of a drug called Valkyr. I visited Vinnie Gognitti, then I wiped out the rest of the Punchinello crime empire before I went out of my way to kill Nicole Horne. But my family was still dead - my pain wasn't over" or something like that. It's longer than that, but that's about the extent of the detail it goes it.
Really, it only mentions characters that could get brought up in Max Payne 2 (Vlad, Vinnie, etc) and skips over the others (Punchinello, Jack Lupino) even though I'd think they're worth mentioning.
