Anyone Keep all the NPC's Alive? ** minor spoilers **

I managed to keep Cowboy alive, and the bum & girl but I can't for the life of me keep the crazy mobsters from dying. Also, if Cowboy dies in Part 1 does it effect the chapter he reappears in?

They don't know who you are until you get down the street and around the corner, and some other Mobster in a white shirt (...whom you probably shot on-sight) runs up and says something like "What the hell are you guys doing?! This is MAX PAYNE! Kill 'im!".

I think you can walk up the the NPC and press "e", then they will stay where they are. It worked with the NPC's in Max Apartment building (The girl and the homeless guy)

That is correct. That's how I kept Mike the Cowboy alive -- I told him to stay put at the beginning of the level, and I just continued onward.

Yeah, the first time I played that area, I thought I'd done something wrong or initiated a programming glitch, because I sniped the guy in the white shirts, and then I was getting shot at -- I turned around, and it was the MOBSTERS shooting at me. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif So I reloaded the area, let the white-shirt guy live, and then he told the other guys who I was and they all turned on me and it made a lot more sense. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In my very last game, after the mobsters met their friend, they all just stood there looking at me. I thought "wtf, maybe they won't shoot me now". That exact same thing happened to me. They were just standing there and so i walked up all casual like, then they just blew me to pieces once i got close enough! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I did something totally different with the mobsters, I followed them down the street. When the shooting started, they defended themselves and gave me cover until they all died.
