I hope the makers have come up with a better idea than writing letters to advance the plot. It always struck me as strange how many letters those gangsters were writing considering these are guys that dont even like to talk on the phone.
there weren't that many letters, and the reson why they write letters is because it is safer. the mob bosses don't give the letters to the mailman, they give them to one of their own guys to deliver, this way they avoid their phone lines being tapped and their e-mails being screened. and how did you get the idea that they didn't like talking on the phone?

General gang stereotype.

You guys are insane, no gangaster would ever put anything describing illegal stuff into a letter. In the history of the new york mob I cant recall the authorities ever finding a letter. And what do you mean there werenet many in max payne, ther had to be at least 20.

It is probably 5-7 if you take letter in the strictest sense of the word but there were tons of written notes used to advance the plot. Didn't bother me a great deal but I'd prefer the story to be brought out in other ways.
