Cmon! You gotta be kidding me, Max looks at least 20 years older in the sequel. Is it really just 1 year?? Can Remedy confirm this?

He doesn't really look that much like the old sketches either. He even looks different than the new sketch of Max.

I liked the look of the old Max. He looked constipated.

People just don't like change.
I don't see how anyone can look at the new Max and not prefer it over the old one, simply due to art and poly count alone images/icons/smile.gif

Hey George --
I like the new Max better. The improved poly count is pleasing, and plus he doesn't look like a fag wearing that necklace.

Man wtf are you guys talking about, I like the new Max Payne... Man you guys get side tracked so fast. I'm asking if it is really one year ahead... The new Max looks much better, but he does look older (which is ok) but it doesn't make sense to me to look at this new Max and say oh only 1 year has passed. Again, can someone confirm this, George took the time to reply but did not confirm, thanks for nothing George.

Plus I doubt even Remedy will confirm it at this stage, it's still early and most of this info is for the Mag previews.
So wait.

The new Max might have more polygons and better detail etc, but what people like about the old Max Payne is that he immediately evokes an emotional response when you look at him. His expression is ridiculous but it is amusing to look at. The new look might better fit the new plot but people will have to wait to play it to make that judgement.. images/icons/tongue.gif

I can accept change.
Yes I can accept that graphically the new max does look better. A lot better in fact.
But I'm finding it hard to swallow that he now looks like a bank manager rather than a Reservoir Dogs-like maverick cop.
Yeah...we use to see Max with a certain look...but we'll love the new one.

Imagine what people's reaction would be if you changed the face of Duke and replaced it with that of a completely different blonde guy.
Taken to the extreme, Max Payne's face is the face of Sam Lake, if you change it then it's not really Max Payne anymore.
Personally I have no problems with the renewed look, but that's mostly because I don't have any specific affinity with the Max Payne personage - diehard fans may feel differently.

To me, it's still Max Payne.
Why?
Because Sam Lake still wrote it, Remedy and 3D Realms still made it, and I will still enjoy it.

At least Max will still have the same voice. If his voice changed I would be really p*ssed!! The old Max Payne had a voice I wanted to listen to. images/icons/smile.gif LOL

The new Max hardly seems like Max. If you showed someone this game and they didn't already know it was Max Payne 2, they'd be like, "Whoa, good graphics. What game is that?" And then I'd be like, "Max Payne 2." And they'd be like, "Cool. Who's that guy?" Then I'd be like, "That's Max." And then they'd be like, "WTF did they do to him?"

The old Max looked about 35, the new looks about 40 or so. The age isnt really much of a factor to me.

I think the new one looks OK but i liked the old Max alot better, why? because he looks less like my dad and looks more like me. Ok that was a joke (it's true tho) the real reason that i liked the old Max better because he was cooler and just looks more like Max Payne.

Yes! Yes, indeed!
This new guy would only work if they were making a game based on Mel Gibson in "Payback".
I realize that the dude doesn't look like Mel Gibson, but he looks like the sort of character Mel plays in that movie.

We have to give this new Max payne a chance. We can't write him off already we barely know anything about the game. But I just think people would except the new Max better if he didn't look so different. The change was so sudden. But the earlier the change is made the better because if Remedy changed his face 4 games down the road we would be even more heartbroken. Because we would be even more attached to the old Max.
The new Max will still have the same voice. So I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.
Besides Remedy knows what there doing. I gotta hand it to them though. This guy does look like an older Max.

i like the new look of max better than the old one, sometimes it seems like he looks very similar to the graphic novels (the main facial features) and sometimes not. id rather they use the new look instead of the mp1 max.. although the style from mp1 was cool also.!
maybe its just that in most of the screenshots, he is looking just a bit too .. hmm lax? images/icons/wink.gif in his face..
his face shows alot of repulsion though it seems, just hardened ...repulsion ...bitterness.. and i hope that his facial expression changes do to what is going on around him, squinting more when shooting and more of an enraged repulsed grin etc.....
either he needs to show a bit of teeth while shooting (not in the duke nukem asskicking way though images/icons/tongue.gif more of an anger/sickened look) or just have a hardened grin type thing that is more subtle but still effective.

Sam Lake had the exaggerated facial expressions that worked so well, but so far we haven't seen anything like that from the 'new guy'. If this guy just stands there looking grim all the time it will be really boring. The wincing and grimacing was so great in the first game, and probably the main reason that we love Sam's Max so much.
