how do i make a room with a window showing the outside? i need a step by step guide or tutorial

Either lok at my sig or:

Select your Room. Then (in F5 mode) press J. This is Join. Now click on the outside world.

i know that part but how do i put the window in? i need to make a window shape on the outside wall.
