View Full Version : Rain weather effect
I'm usually not one to nitpick.. but I noticed in the screenshots that enemies don't look wet when they are out in the rain.
Come to think of it not many games have this feature, will we ever see stuff like that?
Wet clothes, wet hair, things like that?
It could just be a model switch I guess?
and what could you do to a model to make it look wet? darker clothes?
Darker clothes.. wet stains. Max's hair flattened out by the wet weather, same with Enemies.
Clothes droop down.
Things like that.
the world isn't into that level of graphic desing yet. maybe we'll see that sort of thing in mp3.

I figure MP3 will be more of a mission pack than MP2 is to MP1, so I'm not that sure I'll care much about it. Especially since Remedy will not develop it.
Edit. Changed most likely won't develop it to will not develop it.

Unless there's a very significant sum of money on the table and since Remedy doesn't own the IP I find it unlikely that Remedy will develop a 3rd game. Remedy is most likely up for a new challenge, although I'm sure it's not 100% confirmed images/icons/smile.gif

you gotta love biXen's predictions *g*
the "all wet" look will propably come along with one of the next DirectX versions i'd say. the same way realistic water and shadows are "easily" done with vertex and pixel shader at the moment, time will come when wet people can be drawn at decent framerate.

I was going to start a similar topic. It was about the rain effects.
I remember remedy saying that rain was an impossibility for max payne 1 (something along those lines)
What changed for max payne 2? id be curious to know if its just processing power or if your particle effects system is better or what...

You could cheat like MGS2 does to save a lot of polygons AFAIK and make the "splashing effect" part of the models images/icons/wink.gif

I also notice that you never see the street get wet in games nor do you see the little splashes when raindrops impact the ground.

yeah but it's cel-shaded. mp2 has 100 times more realistic graphics.
