That's right. They have professional actors now, and don't want to use Remedy people's faces for the roles.
He looks more rugged and mature.
(btw, you should check before you post new topics, there's about 5 topics about this in the last 20 topics)

People have said he looks 10 years older, the actual story of MP2 is just 1 year after the first.

I think they should make it about 5-7. That seems a somewhat reasonable time period.

but they've already written the story, they can't just change the time period.

*grabs mp1 manual*
No, it just has a police folder with a coffee stain on it.
And back to the topic at hand: I don't like at all the idea of Sam Lake not being Max in MP2. I've already identified with Max, and it's the Jarv-meister.
This is the only reason I am definitely not going to buy or play Max Payne 2. Otherwise I'd grab it off the shelf on the first day. I'm only sad that it's too late this far into the game's development to fix this terrible mistake.

That's some excellent melodrama you're exercising there. images/icons/smile.gif
Personally, Max's new face grew on me after a while. A change of a face is always a shock, initially, but I think our new Payne is a good choice.

I can't help it, man. I've played through the game at least twenty times, and I've very much become attached to Max. How would you like it if they used a different actor for Luke in Return of the Jedi?
Mark Hamill had a facially disfiguring car accident between the filming of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, and they used him for the second two movies anyway. You can't go changing actors.
Your only excuse would be if Sam Lake got too old to play the character anymore, like Sean Connery as James Bond. Talk to us in 25 years!

Well, boo-hoo. You make it sound like the new Max just killed your puppy or something. images/icons/tongue.gif

In a sense, he did.
But in a much more realistic and just plain truthful sense, all he killed was my desire to see the new game.

Now I have this mental image of Max and the Remedy staff stomping on puppies.
Must. . . stop. . . laughing.

Perhaps there is a part in Max Payne 2 where Max get punched in the face 100 times and then stepped on. That would almost explain why he looks so horrible. An explaination ingame would be much better.

Asker, I totally agree with you on the issue of a new actor being hard to accept, but more than anything I am bothered that very few people seem to care. I just don't get it. I guess they don't care about the Max character in the same way that you care about (using your example) Skywalker.
I will play Max 2 happily, but it will never really, really be Max without Sami. I'm sure it will grow on us all eventually, and we'll just accept it, but I already miss the constipated look that virtually defined the character for me.
And, thanks to Basky, I see Max stomping on those puppies with Remedy doing the same in the background. Maybe it's time for another graphic novel Basky? images/icons/wink.gif

Sam Lake had such a cool distinctive face. they could have used real actors except for max

i think so too, hemlock. I mean, his poses and expressions in the graphic novel sequences of the first game were very believable for me.
Besides, he had this sort of "underneath it all, he's a decent guy" thing going. Sam had a sort of look that was just bang-on for the character. This new Max just looks like an *******. He looks like a jerk who's just pissed off at the world and he lacks that crucial bit of human decency that separated Sam's Max from the bad guys.

yes, and Sam just looked like an everyday guy and not a typical "cop with an attitude" actor.
sam was very unique

Well, can't we hope that someone will take Sam's face texture and animating it (for the MP2 facial animations( and put it on Max in a mod?

I actually feel for ya man. And Asker does have a point. I played through Max Payne at least 7 or 8 times and I gotta say, Max Payne's face and clothes are so much a part of the first one. I'm sure after I've "shotdodged" with the new Payne a bit I'll forget sam Lake..but damn...sad to see him go...

But if a year in jail would break him, he ain't Max.
Max is not a normal person: he can take more and dish it back out again. He wouldn't be a ruined man even after a year in jail.

I wonder if it would have been possible to use a rendered model for the comic scenes instead of an actor? Its so heavily photoshopped I dont think you could tell the diffrence between a 10k poly model and a real person.

YES! They could have done that. I mean, with the proper gear, and a couple of days of intensive Sam-Photo'ing, they could have made a perfect digital replica of him to use in the graphic novels.
Damn this new actor. Damn him!

Stress can cause your appearance to change. For example: it can cause wrinkles or greyhair. Max has been through so much stress so of course he is gonna look different. (but how different should he look..?)
Don't forget he probably went to jail. So he was in jail for a year or whatever. Jail isn't fun either so that also caused him alot of stress.
