i have a problem

i have a p4 2.4ghz 512mb ram with geforce 5200 fx 128mb ddr

when i had gf 4 mx i had smooth gameplay with max payne with the settings of "high" (every setting)
now when i set post process effects to high, i get low fps but when i set it to medium i get somewhat a smooth fps

what's wrong here? it's not logical that my gfx card is being upgraded and my gameplay is downgraded..

the 5200 is not that good actually. sure it's new and has new features but the TI4200 whoops it's ass in performance.. (i'v heard)...

but only thing i can reccomend is newest drivers.

Your new video card is just as much of a piece of shit as your previous. As the game enables and disables graphical effects behind the scenes, and your previous video card didn't support DX9 on the hardware level, all DX9 effects were always disabled.

Your new card, though it does a horrible job of it, does in fact support DX9 effects on a hardware level. This is the reason you'll need to decrease the levels your effects are set to.

Aww... thats cruel. I, being someone who recently bought a new card, wouldn't want to hear that after I spent my hard earned money trying to invest in my PC. I think this may be a little nicer:

"Your new video card is not much better than your previous."

There you go, a lesson in kindness from Dreakon http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As for your problem, I would have to say, unfortunatly, getting a newer.....better card would be a good solution. Otherwise just don't turn that option up.
