View Full Version : Did Max get a new sidearm?

In the scans (which are not official screens and therefore not "canon," mind you) Max his holding his same old Beretta M9.

But in almost all the graphic novel images where we can see Max holding a gun, he's holding an M1911A1. Do you think this means anything? Or does he use two sidearms, a 9mm and a .45, for the best of both worlds? images/icons/grin.gif

I hope he can use a 1911. That is one of my favorite guns.

If not, i'll mod one into it.

The .45 will blow a hole in any scum-sucker's chest and make him stay down -- not like on a 9mm, where you can shoot a guy four times and still might worry about him waiting in the woods for you later.

Sure, the Beretta's only real advantage over the M1911 (aside from "looking cooler") is a greater magazine capacity...but hell, considering how long it's been around and how easily modifiable it is, one could very easily find a 1911 with, say, a fourteen-round clip. It's very easy, all you'd have to do is double-stack the rounds, as opposed to a single-stacked 7-round magazine that the .45 traditionally has. images/icons/smile.gif

Almost all NYC cops use a Glock 9mm. I'm not sure if they are even allowed to have a .45. I gotta say though I'd rather Max have a real mans gun like a .45 auto.

Yeah, NYC cops use the Glock 17, 9mm. I had a list in a Handgunner magazine once about the pistol and round that the police departments of every state used.

In Kansas and Missouri, cops use the Glock 21 and 22, which are in .45 and .40 S&W, respectively.

Bear in mind, however, that Max is not your average, department-issue patrolman. He was a detective-lieutenant grade in the first game, and from that spoiler-laden graphic novel scan in another thread recently posted, it would appear that Woden does in fact get Max free and reinstated.

I'd think Max would be allowed to use whatever sidearm he wants. images/icons/smile.gif

And I also think a 1911 weighs more then a berreta...but that's just from seeing them in games, not real-life experience.

Could anyone who's held them both give me a correct answer? images/icons/smile.gif

Kev_Boy: The M1911A1's ammo is much heavier than the Beretta's, but empty, the M1911A1 is only about nine ounces heavier than the Beretta.
Because the Beretta normally holds twice as many bullets, though, I'd say it balances out. images/icons/grin.gif

A single shot anywhere in the chest with a 9mm won't kill someone unless it's at point blank range. You can even shoot someone right through the heart with a more powerful round, and it can still take them as long as fifteen seconds to die -- at which point the brain stops receiving blood.

FMJ, you really are a gun nut.

i was shocked to found out today that in Finland there's 3rd most guns in the world (proported to people).

39 weapons for every 100 persons.

2nd most firearms are in Yemen
do i even need to say which country was number one? images/icons/wink.gif

edit: oops. i wrote first 36 for 100...
edit2: umh... it's Yemen in english, not Jemen images/icons/tongue.gif

just found out, the number 1 has "roughly 83-96 guns per 100 people" images/icons/shocked.gif

yes, but during that 15 seconds or more they will be on the ground feeling much shock and pain.

The FBI started development on the black talon round becasue a suspect took 13 rounds of standard 9mm and was still returning fire so I think what FMJ says is correct in that the stopping power of a 9mm is not as realiable as it could be. And headshots are tough, many people panic and miss enemies at very close range in real life.

The Beretta m92 is simply the PERFECT action movie side-arm, and a John Woo favorite. You can't go wrong with it.

It combines the instant knockdown power of the .45 with the high-velocity armor-piercing power of Magnum rounds.

I think my favourite gun is the Belgian FN Five Seven, but that goes mostly by looks. I don't really give a shit how reliable it is, I'm not gonna fire it. And the same goes for Max, as far as I know, his gun won't jam any time in the game, so it goes by style, and the .45 looks like an old brick. It's design isn't really that old yet, but it looks heavier, the Beretta is nice and slick.

I really wish we could see a HK G36K there though, my fav. assault rifle images/icons/wink.gif

Good man, biXen! By saying that, I mean that the G36K is a great rifle because it has the versatility of a submachine gun, making it an overall useful weapon, and it is nice looking as well. images/icons/smile.gif
The only advantage of the Five-SeveN is a high capacity for needle-like AP rounds....which don't hurt foes much, and why would you want AP rounds on a pistol? images/icons/smile.gif

Desert Eagle is a nice gun. Personally i like my Mark I .357 with the 10 inch barrel. Im considering getting a Polished Crome .50 with the 10 barrel. Seems to be a bit more accurate but not as concealable. Then again if i was looking for something to actually conceal id probably get a glock 10mm

It doesn't matter what round it is, if you can't shoot well enough to inflict enough CNS damage and/or damage to the major blood vessels, I doubt you'll survive an encounter with an attacker.

Hell, people have been shot with every kind of round under the sun and still kept on going. Psychological factors play an important part in incapacitation of an attacker, that is why some people fall unconscious after being shot in the arm (even when there's nowhere near enough blood loss to induce unconsciousness) and others ignore it and keep on going.

FMJ: Yep, the G36K might replace the AG3 (G3A3 model) as our army's new weapon. But too late for me to shoot it anyway images/icons/smile.gif

I find that the Beretta and the Colt pretty much equally cool-looking. I wanted a Colt in the original. I'm not sure if a mod for one was released (I'm sure it was), and I settled for Komb.at's awesome S&W W9 mod graemlins/love.gif

And can we not make this into ANOTHER "X gun is better" thread? Max Payne is, and always has been about "movie realism" (oxymoronic, to a degree) and what simply looks cool. I hate to see viscious personal flames about something so trivial. Originally posted by j:

I hope he only has one sidearm this time. It bogs down the menu when you have 2 pistols, 2 rifles, 3 machine guns and so on. Too many games have repitive weapons that are basically the same thing and winds up taking forever to scroll through the whole mess.

Bow,

The P8 is the same as the USP (universal self-loading pistol), the German army simply adopted it as the P8, much as the U.S. Army adopted the Beretta M92F as the M9.

The USP is an outstanding pistol, with a decocking lever and ambidexterous controls and safety. It comes in .40 S&W, 9mm, and, my favorite, .45. images/icons/smile.gif

The G36C is alright. All the punch of an assault rifle packed into the compact frame of a submachine gun. Great for indoor fighting, but with its tremendous muzzle flash and reduced range and accuracy, it's not good for much else. Then, that applies to most SMGs. images/icons/grin.gif
