What do you think? Will there be mouse & keyboard controls like HITMAN smilies/images/icons/grin.gif or just keyboard like in TOMB RAIDER smilies/mryuck.gif

Same with me, but now when you say it. It would make Max Payne a lot easier if it was just keyboard. I mean, think about. You jump in slow mo and then you have to grab the mouse and move to where the enemy is and then click the ctrl key, to kill the guy. Pretty complicated! smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Mouse and keyboard is a lot better. You can use the mouse to look around, aim, fire, and to perform a secondary action (right mouse button). You'll be able to configure your keyboard to suit how you want to control Max.

I think "WASD" controls might be needed if we use the mouse.

Relax,
you can play with _almost_ any configuration you can come up with. We've even tested a drawing pad (Wacom tablet)...and the tester got HUGE kicks out of it!!!
All of the game action keys can be re-configured to suit even the most perverted combinations...
Joysticks can not be used, unless they can emulate a mouse (like MS Dual Strike can, for example).

A drawing pad the teste must mave been in pain. What configuration have you guys at the offace been using?
I'll be very dissapointed if the mouse can't be used for aiming as Hitman and every first person game that preceeded it (e.g. Half Life) showed this is the only true way to play shooters. I'm definatley hoping for a look around the corner feature (ala Hitman & Soldier Of Fortune) as this is essential (Unfortunatley missing from No One Lives Forever, therefore amking it easier to get spotted)
When I approach a corner I want to be able to have a quick peek to see if sum1's there and get the stealth drop on them with a sideways dive while pumping MANY rounds in to their.....face with the use of mouse aoming and a cross hair, not in to their chest or where the computer wants to send them. It would be far too inaccurate without some kind of seperate aiming system and far too boring with a lock on / auto target button.
Just my 2 cents....

No just dive you see someone pump some rounds don't need to peek.

Mouse and keyboard. I've been playing like that for 10 years. Any other config doesn't feel right smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I guess someone should refer you to "read the previous posts in the Forum" or even "read the previous posts in this thread".
But I am a nice guy...
So, as I said a couple posts up in this very same thread: You can use _almost_any combination of controlling. This means, that yes, you can use mouse for aiming. Incidentally, this is what I prefer to do, as someone asked that earlier. Mouse+keyboard (WASD) is my preferred thing. But as said, you can do have the controls assigned to suit even the weirdest combinations.
And I am sure somebody already explained that the auto-aiming thing is freely optional (personally, I never use it).
Summary, read the earlier posts and threads, before speculating wildly.
Zeims
And about the drawing pad, he (tester) insisted that it's awesome for the aimed shots.

What was that guy smoking? Also may i pose the question who uses auto-aim? To the dev team: if your ever running out of time please just scratch auto-aim.

Why are you specificly mentioning Half-Life? The mouselook feature really launched with Quake, and Half-Life is ofcourse just a further development of Quake, as it's based on technology from id.

Hey Mika,
Auto aiming? Does this mean when you walk into a room it can auto aim so you can jump around and a stuff without usig the mouse? Man, you guys thought of everything! That was one doubt I had about this game: That you had to use the mouse to aim for the guy then do a roll using the keyboard, THEN, finally shoot him. At first that sounds complicated. I am using the auto aim option. smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
auto aim is like in Duke 3D.
You enter a room, see someone, shoot and hit.
You don't have to aim exactly.
Also, for the record, I prefer the possibility of keyboard only. Because, you are always faster on a keyboard then with a mouse.
Example, your mousepad / arm length limit your move, you then have to lift of your mouse to take it back.
Also, you got 10 fingers, but a mouse only 2/3 buttons.
Last, for the ones who played the older games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Duke3D, etc. they were all keyboard playable only.

Good point Swh. I myself am a console gamer i was raised playing games like Streets of Rage 2 and Finl Fight. Im used to the controller and thats what i mainly use on pc games to. Sure im one of the best at Quake 2 and Half Life but it just doesn't feel right using the mouse and keyboard, im used to controllers and thats what ill be sticking with. smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

holy shit ok it sounds like you guye have neevr played a damn PC game before...
you move forward with the "w" key, you move back with the "s" key, you strafe (sidestep) left with the "a" key, you strafe right with the "d" key. You look up/down left/right with the mouse (ie aim) you push mouse1 to fire, mouse2 to secondary fire or "use" function...
and then you bind say the stunt key (if there is one) to mouse3 or ctrl or something.... jump= space crouch = control..
you dont walk with the mouse, as one of you were implying

Nate: Have you ever gone into the "configure controls" menu? A lot of gamers have changed their configs to walk with their mouse because there were a few games that had a config that started out like that. People tend to bind their keys based on what they come accross in other games. You just aren't old sk00l enuff to know some of the other possible configs.

no i know, i was talking to this guy:
"That you had to use the mouse to aim for the guy then do a roll using the keyboard, THEN, finally shoot him. At first that sounds complicated. I am using the auto aim option"
i was just telling him an alternative that would work better
Right a few things:
"I guess someone should refer you to "read the previous posts in the Forum" or even "read the previous posts in this thread" - MikaRMD
First of all, yes I read the previous post you made and nowhere in your post does it state that you can aim with the mouse although I suspected this was the case from a previous thread.
"you can play with _almost_ any configuration you can come up with" - This statement in no way confirms mouse aiming, I was mereley stating that mouse aiming is essential.
Also....
"Why are you specificly mentioning Half-Life? The mouselook feature really launched with Quake, and Half-Life is ofcourse just a further development of Quake, as it's based on technology from id. " - fractalgp
That may be, but I thought Quake was shite (NOTE IN MY OPINION) and hardly ever played it because it was just Doom with better visuals, the difference is Doom was fresh when it was released. I gave Half Life as an example cos it was the first thing that came to mind, not as the inventor of the mouse look feature, damn I think you could even do it in Duke 3D with a bit of meddling, not that it mattered seen as though neither Quake nor Duke had any kind of character damage zones.
Some of y'all need to just chill the fucc out, sum1 says something and you got to pick at every word. Another thing thats been buggin me is: some of you guys need to GET OFF THE DEVELOPERS NUTS cos you be ridin dick bronco style like 'Look no hands' or sumthin, but whatever, I aint gonna lick sum1's nuts just cos they're working on a game that I'm waiting for.

First pc game i ever played was duke3d, fallowed by shadow warrior. At first I used the num pads to jump strafe and stuff and the mouse to look up, down and around. I got some advice on using the WASD+mouse config and have stuck with it ever since...except i use left shift to duck, its easier on my finger that way. I could never play without a mouse and just using a KB would never be as precise as a KB+mouse combo. I use left button to shoot primary, 2nd for use and the mouse wheel to scroll thru weapons and it also performs as a thrid m-button when pressed down. Im not a fan of auto aim but if it can be like that of duke3d or even better a toggle feature, that be great.
(BTW enemies can also use the same moves as max right??? or atleast the bosses)

Yes, you can!
Okay, I was nice enough to register just so I can answer this question. Then I'm adding a question of my own to it.
First, you need to activate "Mouse Keys" which is part of the Accessibility Options (located in the Control Panel). This will enable the Numberpad on your keyboard to act like the mouse pointer. You will need to adjust the acceleration and speed options all-the-way up to "fast" to get Max to look and aim fast enough to play.
*NOTE* In the Accessibility Options you can also select the "use keyboard shortcut" option to toggle Mouse Keys on and off using the Alt-Shift-NumLock keys on the keyboard. This works great!
Also, if you don't have Accessibility Options in the Control Panel, then it wasn't installed with Windows. Go to Add-Remove Programs, then select Windows Setup, and then select Details. You can then select and install Accessibility Options so you can use the "Mouse Keys" option.
Now you can use JUST the keyboard to play Max Payne. I hope it works out for you.
- Now for my question: Does anyone know how to map these "Mouse Keys" to a programmable joystick? I use a Wingman Rumblepad and can map everything but the mouse (or mouse keys). My controller still maps the numberpad keys as actual numbers even when mouse keys is activated.
Thanks to anyone who responds...
dstratjedi
P.S. a quick reply to: dstratjedi@usa.com would be greatl
I used to play games with keyboard. Half Life made me use the mouse too. It wasn't comfortable, but now I can't stop using it.
How can you possibly play MP only with a keyboard???? You can't aim!
