Hey guys -

I just finished Max Payne (again, for like the 4th time now) with the Kung-fu 3.0 mod. I must say, wow, I'm breathless.

Playing through the game, especially with an advanced mod such as KF3, got me thinking about some cool things that Remedy can add to Max Payne 2.

How about this: You walk into a room, hit Ctrl-R, and clear out a bunch of baddies in, well, the most bad-ass way you simply can do. Then hit Ctrl-R again, and you have just recorded that section of the game into a file on your computer.

It doesn't stop there, though - using some ingame tool, you can adjust the cameras and speed up time, so nothing looks slowed down. That way, you can watch it all in real-time, to show your friends!

It might sound like a lot of work for the Remedy team, but shit, if you think about it, that would keep me playing WAY longer than the original Max Payne sans mods.

Please, Remedy, think of it - I beg of you.

What do you guys think?

It would be a cool feature, but it's not about to happen.

They must have a way to record scenes in the console. It would be awesome if you could do that and then play with the camera to make your own edits of fights. It would also be great if they then had a utility to convert these right into MPEG. And yes I know this is all wishful thinking.

You can use Fraps to record gameplay. I've never used it myself, but I have heard nothing but good things about it from the people that I know who use it. Give it a try, it's free and pretty easy to use. It can be found here:

Does this record what is on screen, or actual game data? Because it would be cooler if you could edit the scene after you play it.

Camtasia might work as well *shrug* I'd LOVE if they'd be able to do it on mp2 though wow.. ^_^

Won't happen. It's as hard as making multiplayer, and in theory it involves the same principles.

You are going to have to stick with editing video of the game.

" The major changes:

Sound is captured along with the video. "

To Bow: I had to download the older version because the new one only works on 2000/XP. I am running a dual boot with 2000 and WinMe, and it doesnt work for me. The new one does record sound though. Sorry for any confusion.

I just said it involves the same principles as coding multiplayer, it's a bigass engine rewrite, it doesn't exist, and it's not gonna happen. What's so hard to understand about that.

J. just becasue we dont know the command doesnt mean the devleopers themselves cant do it. Surely they must have had some need to record gameplay at some point. If they cant I'd be surprised. Doesnt matter though, even if they do it all the time for their own purposes I dont see that they have any interest in anyone else being able to do it.

There is a console game that allowed you to record scenes. It was Driver 2 for the Playstation one. When you started to drive around it would record everything you did. But of course after so long you ran out of tape and you couldn't select what you wanted to record either. But you replayed it by selecting it on the pause screen and they showed the footage in a cinematic type view. It was cool

So if the PS1 can do it than just about any system or PC could do it. Its just a question of whether they decide to add that in there.

Me? i don't think Remedy will do it. (I wish they would though...) Come on! They already changed Max Payne characters so Sam Lake could work more on the story line. So why would they put more time into an unnessacary (don't know how to spell that) action that isn't going to involve the story plot? You see what I'm saying?

But you never know... They might. I just said I don't think they will do it.

Like biXen said, the whole engine needs to be designed around it from the start. It can't be "just added" afterwards.

Not sure if this is what Skaven was saying, but could it not be done like the EA Nascar games? If I'm not mistaken, that feature was left out of one version of the game, only to be put back in the next year (with the same engine).

Just curious.

I think it's pretty easy to understand, but hey, he's from canada, so it might be hard for him, eh?
(Please note that the above is a joke, written for the sole purpose of me getting to say "eh")<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah, and it's still real funny.

^ I think you missed the whole point of what Skaven was trying to say.

There are quite a few games that have a replay system. GTA3, GTAVC, Driver, Duke3D, Descent 3, Descent 2, Descent, and a lot of Nasacar games. Yes, it's probably too late to do this with MP2, but how about MP3?
