I downloaded an NES emulator not too long ago, and I was playing Maniac Mansion (one of my favorite old skool games), and shortly afterwards I decided to play Max Payne...the contrast was incredible.

I just wanted to say what an AWESOME (I capitalize AWESOME because it cannot be properly expressed in small letters) game Max Payne is. I started noticing little things like...Max's coat moves when he runs...talk about detail. I remember games like Contra being "advanced", And Wolfenstein 3D (which I still play) was the greatest thing I had ever seen. Now games have characters that move, act, and look like real people, not peach colored pixels holding large black blobs to pass for guns. But those were fun too...

I just love video games... images/icons/grin.gif

Yep yep. I've been reading the forums the whole time, but I never really had time to post anything. But I'm not so busy right now.

You actually noticed I was missing?

Does anyone else have the frequent occurance of getting smacked in the head by grenades in MP?
It popped into my head and I thought I would ask before I forgot...

I hate it when grenades pop into my head. But I don't think I'm likely to forget it.

I eat grenades.

I bounced a grenade off of a wall in a warehouse, and it hit the guy in the head, the blew him up on to a ledge. I took a screenshot of it, because it made me laugh.

Roflmao! Grenades no but those darn Molitov's (sp?) burn me up! wOOt! It's cool when you know the enemy is gonna toss one. Just strafe so his aim changes and he tosses it into something real close to himself and watch him dance! graemlins/dopefish.gif

Yeah, and imagine how games will look like after the next 10 years... it's so freaky! Maybe games in future will be so real like the holodecks in Star Trek. You go into a holographic room, run a program and find yourself in a virtual reality which has no difference to the real world, like Matrix or s.th... Wow!!!!!! I hope I'll live long enough to experience such games.

I have to admit I was quite impressed with Max's model. Very detailed, and the coat looked to naturally move and hang on his body, I liked it very much.

And we didn't even need a fancy procedural cloth physics routine for that. images/icons/grin.gif

At least it has occurred to me that some people have an awful problem with that.

I'm totally pathetic, I know, man.
It's really more I admire you, rather than worship. images/icons/grin.gif

Hey, whatever floats your boat, ma'am. images/icons/smile.gif But I actually meant that some people have an awful problem with someone (or something) being worshipped.

This way the item of worship also inevitably becomes a target. Conversely, if you want someone or something to be attacked by wiseguys, just worship him/her/it a little. Isn't that what women have done for thousands of years to amuse themselves? images/icons/wink.gif

I also think that the face skins are great! When you shoot an enemy his face changes into an death look. It would be awesome once we get higher powered computers that can handle flowing animation on faces like in the new Final Fantasy movie. Then we would be in the realm of realism.
Max Payne has tons of realism. But it also has it's fictional area.
Could you jump from a one story building firing guns and land on your side without pain? hehe

AFAIK, Soldier of Fortune 2 has animated 3D facial expressions on the characters, so it definitely is coming up as soon as the common hardware can handle it.

Nope, but for someone who just swallowed five bottles of painkillers it should be no problem.
