What is Max Payne 2 about? I see on the cover art he is with a women. Has he found himself another tap? Or is it a prequel? Or is it just picture illustrating him with his former wife? His fugitive lifestyle is a result of her murder. So an illustration of her would be appropriate.
At the beginning and end of Max payne "Officer in danger. I repeat officer in danger" is broadcasted over the CB. So I'm thinking at that point the police realize what's going on. So what the hell? Is the law still after him or what? Or has he become a likeness of Martin Riggs?

From PayneReactor. Slightly assumed, slightly based on the facts that we don't know everything yet, but it's a short synopsis I guess. There's other parts to pick out from different previews and such. (and no this isn't publically available on the site yet, it's also one of the things I might rewrite before going public with the page since it's a bit messy)
The story of Max Payne 2
Against all odds Max Payne is cleared from the charges after the first game, with some help from Alfred Woden. Now he's once again framed for murder, and yet again he loses a loved one. Again he faces the New York underground, full of scum and murderous thugs, this time he looks even better though.
This is pretty much the basis of the story for Max Payne 2, of course there's more, but do you really want to know too much yet? We think no, you'll get more later. Remedy has promised that this story will have you even more immersed into the game, and it'll be darker and moodier.

Actually, I heard the story goes like this:
Max Payne escapes from the police and meets up with a gang of renegade ninja-pirates who teach him the ways of the ninja (and the ways of the pirate). When his training is complete, he returns to New York city with the ninja-pirate gang to fight a gang of samurai-zombies-- the sworn enemies of all ninja-pirates. Then he meets a female samurai-zombie and he falls in love with her, thus bridging the gap between ninja-pirates and samurai-zombies.
They get married and have a samurai-ninja-ghost-pirate-zombie child. They name him Bruno.
Then Bruno dies for some reason and Max, mired in grief, leaves his wife and walks the earth as a lonely ninja-pirate. Also, he stomps on puppies.
Ah ha. Ha ha ha. I'm so tired. *wanders off*

why would alfred wooden help him? at the end he turns out to be bad and kills everyone.
then again I dont remember much after that cuz I havent played it in a while.
I think as well due to the cover pic and the small desricption that mona is in fact alive because her body disapeared from the elavator and she shows up mysteriousley and turns out to be a small peice in another web of evil stuff.
Or maybe a test to see if the aged max can still handle it. (the moves and focus and stuff)

The story is that Max fights and kills bad guys while collecting and using projectile weaponry. He talks to people, and they talk back. Finally, he meets some new people and sees some older ones, and he resolves issues.
You heard it here first... images/icons/smile.gif

No ive got it this time. Max is released on an insanity plea or something and now that he has found retribution he could never kill again... or so they think.
Then you spend the entire game wandering through bars and getting into the occasional bar fight until you find the right woman.
Once you do you go and get married and after returning from your honeymoon alfred wooden shows up at your house saying he needs you to help him stop a major war between the ninja-pirates and the samurai-zombies. max thinks, then looks at his wife ('s rack) and then says @#%$ that, and shoots Alfred in the head and goes to jail for another year
then we get max payne three where he is released from jail because alfred threatened his wife and he was very scared of loosing her so he shot him. Then you wander the streets going into a bars and so on so forth until you find your missing wife and when you get home a ninja-pirate shows up and says he needs help, you shoot him and they take him to court and then tattoo "dont let me have a gun" on his forehead because there is a bizarre pattern every time they let you out.
(where the heck is this story going?)
Then the fourth game: having no guns and being very sad you go around kung-fu-matrixing all the v junkies on the street because they #%@&ed up your life and then they put in jail for ever.
ITS ONLY A 4 GAME CONTRACT

Actually, Remedy just hand wrote me a letter telling me what MP2 is about. Cause we are such good friends.
Max Payne finds out that he is the prince of the unknown land of Jigiliehaha, and he needs a princess. The one he wanted, Mona Sax, got dead when he wasn't looking, so for the rest of the game, he has to find a new princess.
That was all in that letter. I hope Remedy doesn't get mad that I told you this stuff. BTW what is an NDA? That was stamped all over it.

People have already pointed out that Max looks to be different ages in diffrerent screenshots (he especially looks young in the graphic novels). If you look at one of the graphic novel pages that's been scanned, it says something like: "Like most things in my life, it involved the death of a woman I loved. I couldn't save her." You might think he's talking about his late wife, but the panels show him with Mona. Notice he talks about it in the past tense.

Max Payne 2 will like Max Payne be a story that has already happened, you play the past. And it's beginning is supposed to be one year later.

We really don't know much about the plot, and flashbacks within the game could easily tear apart our initial perceptions. But that's good isn't it, what's the fun on knowing exactly the plot beforehand? I really enjoy making these kind of assumptions and speculations and then finding out the real thing.

Somebody has stolen all of the pianos and synthsizers. Van Halen can't perform Right now or Jump without them. So your quest begins.

Max looking older or not, he has exactly the same clothes in each shot... so no flashbacks in MP2 me thinks. At least you can't make any assumptions based on the shots available at the moment
Max Payne 2 will be about $50. Har har har!

Uhh Mars, they are reffering to Alex Baldur's murder, not the v-junkies and other gun fodder.
Well, you think the cops would notice the very large amount of dead people that Max Payne left. I can understand that he might not be found guilty of the murder he did not commit, but there is still the matter of the dead people in the building he was caught on with bullets fired from his guns in them.

He gets away from that, read the synopsis... This murder he is actually guilty of. And again the story will be told while you play it, so it probably starts in the end again, at least that's the impression I got from the novel shots and story we've got so far.

He took out the entire mob and an old crotchety lady. They probably gave him the key to the city.

Well again It is prolly better to not decipher the entire plot to the point of knowing that the old lady set up the V-raid on your house (if we were talkin bout MP1)
I went in to MP1 with no knowledge of the story whatsoever. this is one of those action games with a seriouse plot for those who care and big guns for those who dont. As the story unfolded I learned as it was happening and got the suspense of finding all the mysteries and truths. And I really had fun.
I want to go into MP2 the same way. I obviousely know his past wich will make me understand the story better and Thats all I know. I hevent read any of the press releases or the novel shots because that might say something insignificant now but then spoil a suprise while playing the game because someone will say something that connects with that peice i read and I will know before hand and then spoil the story.
Thats MY OPINION and some might agree and some might not. Feel free to throw freshly cut carrots at me or tell me im full of crap (havent been to the bathroom in 10 days)

I feel the same way about not wanting to know the story, but still i'd like to know the basics, just what its mainly about.
And i'm surprised that this game has been keep so quite since it comes out this fall, i would have liked to seen a trailer for it or something.
