As you may know buy now, before modding MP2 I was a heavy modder of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, a very good WWII shooter released in 2001ish. I found the many textures that I unzipped from that game VERY, very useful for use in Max Payne, especially since no one else uses them. Just asking for curiosity purposes if Anyone else is using texture/s from another game they modded. Anyone?

I think it's a bit unethical, but as for legal reasons I'm not sure. If I were to use other than self-made I think I'd stick to MP2 textures.

Yea, I wouldn't make a big practice of using them but having a few wouldn't be bad I dont' think. I remember some mods (for other games) that were shut down for using other peoples work, like textures.
There are quite a few developers that have released textures for their games, the big one that comes to mind is Kingpin. I'm sure you can do a search for those, though I'd guess the largest texture they have would be 512x512 pixels which probably does't look to good i MP2.

Why not? Legally its fine, as when you make a md for that game you dont have to give legal credit, so Why here? there is no "Game Specific Copyright Law" that I know of. How about you? Whats the diff. from ripping MP2 textures for a mod and MOHAA textures?
Ethical? Please...

Because the reason you are allowed to touch those textures are that you are using them to improve playability of their game. If you use it in a competing game's mod it's a whole different matter. Besides, everyone knows MP2 has better quality than other games' textures put together, so in that direction it's quite obvious. But as for you using MOHAA textures, doubt anyone cares, but I think it shouldn't be done.

Simland Texture Packs (http://www.planetquake.com/simland/pages/tpgothx/gothx.htm)
ID software have stated that any texture packs which include modified textures from ID or use the original ones as a base for something else have to be removed from websites. This means that this texture pack cannot be downloaded from this site anymore.
So yes, SOME publishers do care, whether its for profit or not!

We certainly care. But I'd really not get into a protracted discussion about this. It always ends up in flames.

Bottom line you are taking a chance if you are using textures from other games. Let's face it, when you play guitar you use riffs from Metallica or whatever, but you don't release a friggin song including that riff. It's the same thing here, for proper stuff release only with stuff you are allowed to use. And you can of course modify stuff, which I mostly do no matter what the source is.

Fine.
I have e-mailed EA support and should receive a response within the next 24 hours. This should end the discussion one way or the other.
I can't seem to find their MOD policy on the site. If anyone finds MODs mentioned (EA.com) write here on what they say. It matters a great deal, as I don't wanna get disqualified due to copyrights.

I think it's legal to use textures... But using in your own game for instance and gonna sell it... then it's illegal...
