Hey ppl, this is my first post here. I found these forums when I was searching for Max Payne stuff and they seem pretty cool images/icons/smile.gif

Anyway what I want to know is what are your favourite lines that Max says in the game. My fave at the moment is 'You find Lady Luck is really a hooker, and you're fresh out of cash.' Awesome stuff.

So yeah, what are ones that stand out for you?

Well bib,

-First off, welcome.

-Second off, I am glad you are not complaining about Max's face being different.

-Third off, I am gonna call you bib, cause BackinBlack is longer than bib.

-Fourth off, My favorite line would be: "The sun went down with practived bravado. Twilight crawled across the sky, laden with foreboding."

Congradulations bib, your are not a dumb noob. A diamond in the rough. The diamond being bib, and the rough being the vast noob wasteland.

Welcome to the forums BackinBlack!!! images/icons/smile.gif

My favorite lines from the whole game are:
1. "You play, you pay you bastard."
and
2. "Something wicked this way comes, Max Payne." or something like that images/icons/smile.gif

My favourite line: "I released my finger from the trigger...and then it was over...thank the lord!!! My clicking finger has got a sprain! AHHHH!!!"

j/k images/icons/grin.gif

Regards,

Yickle.

P.S. I didn't know what was more difficult - beating the game, or beating my K6-2, Voodoo 3 specification.

And by the way, something like that would be "Max Payne at large": "Something wicked this way comes, Max Payne at large".

With a game like this, the question isn't what are your fave quotes but what aren't. It's that good people.

welcome backinblack.

my fave moments are those that show off max payne's divine, dry sense of humor, e.g.:

"vinnie gognitti. just the man I've been killing to see."

vinnie gognitti: "police brutality!"
max payne: "i rate pretty high on that."

"he had a baseball bat and i was tied to a chair. pissing him off was the smart thing to do."

there are some great pieces of dialogue throughout the game.

EDIT: However, my favourite Bunch-of-Quotes™ would be the "I'm in a graphic novel/game" parts. I laughed the loudest at those.

My favorite would be: "He's a freaking mad dog. Yesterday he shot Dino because he wanted to see his brain splaterred on the wall" or something like that. The second one would be. "And now I was going to kill her."

Those are all awesome. I had forgotten how many good, good lines there were, each one making me smile a little half-smile to myself at how entertaining they are and how Sam doesn't take himself too seriously.

My fiancee is particularly fond of "The pills would ease the pain", and "Michelle!", making the 'constipated' face each time she says it. I grin when I hear the 'practiced bravado' line, every time. I also love wandering around in public, squinting, randomly announcing that "the pills would hold the pain back for a while"; I get strange looks. images/icons/smile.gif

Gognitti: "What's the freaking problem?!? Hello!? Hellooo?!"

"What are you waiting for, you apes? Kill him! Kill him!"

"Open, goddamn it!"

Vinnie Gognitti is the person we all love to hate. He is the embodiment of the high-strung, frustrated, yapping, screaming weenie inside every one of us.

I find myself quoting him whenever my PC refuses to cooperate, and my instincts begin to tell me that the only possible solution is either violence or a speedy escape (neither of which are applicable; woe is the modern society).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I find myself doing that too, except it is with Vladmir's lines. You know:

"Messing with _____, it's bad for business all around"

"Bang, your dead, Max Payne"

"Whatever you did or did not do, I'm sure you had good reason for doing it"

And for some reason, I will say "That's a moot point", whenever anyone says something. It is such a cool phrase. I of course have a russian accent when I say all of this.

Thanks for the welcome guys, those are all great lines. I also liked:

"Tell me, how much did Dime cost you? I bet it was more than his name."

"What does BB stand for anyway? Backstabbing Bastard?"

I agree this game has some of the coolest lines and the fact that they make jokes of themslves. I like the conversations that the bad guys have with each other.

"You know all those cool action movies, and I'm talking about the coolest of the cool where time seems to slow down. Bullet time thats what they call it bullet time."

"I was so disgusted, that I strangled t'em bot' wit' the video game cables."

"Something wicked this way comes"

That ain't you quoting Max; that's you quoting Max quoting Shakespeare. Macbeth, to be specific. If memory serves, one of the witches says it when Macbeth is about to walk by. I could be wrong on that part, but the line is from that play.

Yeah it's from Macbeth. Great line.

Started the game again, found another line I liked when Max picks up the phone in Roscoe Street Station.

"We come to you now live from the crime scene"

That one made me laugh.

My favorite quote would have to be his dialogue as he's about to storm the Punchinello manor:

"The secret trick is that there is no trick, no matter what the movies tell you. No rule, no secret mantra, no road map. It was chaos and luck, and anyone who thought differently was a fool."

Other memorable quotes would be:

"I might have laughed, if only I had remembered how."

"Nothing is a cliché when it happens to you."

"Everyone makes mistakes. Mine hasn't been to crack jokes about the guy with the bat, he would have cracked my skull regardless. It hadn't been better to trust a girl with a gun."

Simon Charles

My vote goes to "Nothing's a cliché...".

And the worst quote has to be "I felt beaten and bruised. I felt like the chair I had broken to get free." Oh man, I love Max but that one made me graemlins/mryuck.gif !

Yeah, that one was weaker than the usual, high quality material we expect from Sam Lake (bows at Sam's Feet). Seriously though, almost any quote from MP is better than the best quote from any other game.

I love all these and I cant pick a best one because they all fit into the story and bring a bizzare smile to the story. One of the best parts was the intro. it was all scripted with a nice speech.

"thank you" and "live from the scrim scene" were one of my favorites.

To bad when you declare war on the rats max doesnt say something. ANYTHING would have been good and with sam lake's dialogue it would have been classic.

But hey vinne could come back.... as a zombie and instead of bullet time script good ai for a skinless man with a BIG tounge that can crawl on the ceiling and has huge claws.

I have to say that this is a pretty cool thread.

My favorite? Lets see if I can get this all from memory. images/icons/wink.gif

"Sharp boned cranes loomed up from the snow storm. On a night like this, you couldn't help but think of the dark army of dead men, sleeping with the fishes, cement shoes in line. There was no minotaur in this labyrinth, but somewhere out there, on the clanking desks of his cargo freighter, the skipper of the Charon was waiting for me, like the ferryman of the river stix."

Lupino's famous lines are also some of my favorites.

"I have tasted the flesh of fallen angels. I have tasted the devil's green blood. It runs in my viens. I have seen beyond the world of skin, the architecture of blood and bone marrow. Death is coming! She is coming, and hell follows with her. This is the twilight winter. I am ready to be her son! Her time is now, and all who stand in her way must DIE!"

I think I missed a line in the first quote by Max that comes after the sharp boned cranes, but considering that I haven't played the game in over a year and can remember those lines is a good indication of how much I like them. images/icons/grin.gif
Either that, or I'm simply stark raving mad. Could be? Naaah. images/icons/wink.gif

"Freaking zombie demons from outer space." That quote appears a couple of times, and there's also a poster about that movie inside Ragna Rock.

Also, that quote in Part III chapter 7, where he says something like "something clicked for the final time...my mind had never been so clear." It's a neat quote, but I have no idea what it means? Has anybody figured that out yet?

I have a series of them...

I rank them all... I'll say a little story for my overall favorite.

#6 "your in a computer game max..." (grafic novel wasn't NEARLY as funny)
#5 "thank you"
#4 "I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings
#3 "POLICE BRUTALITY!" "I rank pretty high on that" ... (i think they are in the same speaches) "YOU HAVE TO TAKE ME IN! YOU CAN'T JUST KILL ME!" "uh huh... just keep telling yourself that."
#2 "He was desperate to buy sand for his hour glass... I wasn't selling any" *tick click*

#1... endings always had me in a downer, FF7 left me at an ending where the story wasn't finished... some other games... but the second this quote was uttered, I smiled as a little boy would from being told 'good job' for the first time would...
...#1 "He grinned like a winner... that made two of us..."

A lot of good quotes mentioned here. However I would have to say my favorite is still:

(from memory so may be a little off)

Bravura: This is Deputy Chief James Bravura. Cease your illegal activity and come out with your hands above your head.

Max: Sure thing, Jim. Me and the boys have been talking and we're all REAL sorry. They'll never do it again...

I'd still have to go with, "Lady luck's a hooker and you're fresh out of cash."

For MP2, from Dick Justice, "It was if all the angels in heaven where taking a piss at the same time. In a situation like mine, you can only think in metaphors."

Good to know Remedy can still poke fun at itself. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
