Let's hope they've also added a corresponding amount of depth to the increased play time. The reason the first one was so short was because they concluded the story just as the novelty of bullet time started to wear thin, a smart move on Remedy's part. If Max Payne 2 is "Max Payne! Only longer!" then it could prove to be a disappointing experience.

To create a more satisfying game requires more substance, not more fluff. I'm definitely waiting for the reviews before jumping on board this one.

Im going to agree. One thing that made Max great was that the constant change of local. The plot moved forward, the levels were well designed and there wasnt really any slow points.

It wasnt short, it was done. They didnt bs you with padding just gave you a well done game with diverse environments that i wouldnt even mind yet another romp through. If number two is just as good but with lots of padding ill be dissapointed. The story may be just as good, but wont flow as well as the first one.

Umm... There has probably been some kind of misunderstanding between the reporters and the presenters.

Yes, the script is three times longer.
No, the game will not be three times longer.

These things do translate in one-to-one ratio.

Like Mountain Man and Detharin observed, the game needs substance and it needs to be well designed. This is also what we are aiming for. We aim to make a game that has great gameplay and a deep story. We do not set out to make a game that has x hours of playing time.

Length isn't as important as how many mods are made for it. Of course it won't have multiplayer support so already you won't have any CS versions of Max Payne II. It might be nice to have something like that anyway even if you toss out bullet time in MP. It'd be nice to buy a game then have the chance to get free stuff with it, but without any multiplayer support no one is going to waste their time.

Additional levels would have been nice with Max Payne, but that never really took off. I miss the days of developers putting out map paks, even if they weren't from the same people who made the game, some other company usually made some additional maps.

Was just about to post that the script is 3 times bigger, not the game. Mika beat me to it though. And it's a big difference images/icons/smile.gif The first one felt just about right for me, so I'm hoping this one will too. I dislike games who draw out your time with pointless puzzles that just annoy you, those kind of games I just end up stopping play, happened with Half-Life. Max Payne just pushed you on and on. I think the story is gonna rock this time around too.

Sinces games these days are so story driven, it's difficult for a developer to crank out a map pack and slap a price tag on it. I'd have to say that's actually a good thing.

I had no problem with Max 1's lenght. I never felt that the game needed more. Its not fair to compare a game like that to one where you run down corridors that are hundreds of feet long for half the game. Max had quality content.

While newsrooms often joke about not letting facts get in the way of a good story, I've met my fair share of reporters who seem to think that's sound advice.

Nice.

I was initially cheesed off about the short length of MP1. But then I played it through several more times on all the other difficulty settings and it still retained enough entertainment value each time to keep my interest that I felt I got my money's worth in the end.
