Yes yes I know I had to ask,I'm a gore freak.

Did you guys change the blood effects, did you add pools of blood or just kept the same splattering like in MP1?

Either way,I like it!

StratonAce pointed out to me this morning that 'growing' blood pools are actually in the original Max Payne -- as a projectile.

It's a pretty cool effect, but I don't think it quite fits the look of Max Payne. I might use it in my mod though. images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, we stopped using that projectile when we found out it grows incorrectly when it's in a stairway or near a ledge, in the sense it stays a flat pancake that keeps spreading, floating in air... images/icons/rolleyes.gif ... so we thought, better leave it out.

I like the blood effects where you shoot someone and the blood smears down a wall. I think Duke3D was the first game to do that. Although sometimes it didn't always look good and would be like smeared blood flooting in the air.

Doom3 really takes this to a new level when a creature slides along the ground and blood smears along behind him.

Don't forget Serious Sam,it does that when you shoot back at a monster with anything and a giant smear appears on the floor.

You can check out the blood pool effect, and its short-comings, in this small mod I just put together.

I didn't spend much time on it, so it'll only work with the standard enemies (mainly the ones in episode 1) and Max. I also put Jim's 'Select Level' in, so you can quickly try it out.

It looked insanely beautiful (at the time).

Yeah; the difference between the two is that the (unused) blood pool in Max Payne is just a flat mesh that is slowly scaled bigger, while the Severance pool is projected onto the surface like a blob shadow.

Max Payne had the latter too, but they were used only for shadows, not for blood pools. The reasoning went along the lines "we don't want to make this game too gory" and "come on, I have 48754392087503 bugs left to squish and we still need to make the QuickSave really fast, do you really think I have time for a stupid feature like that?!".
