On the Official Max Payne 2 website it says it requires a 32MB AGP Video Card... how come it says only AGP? It won't work with PCI cards??

I have a 64MB GeForce4 PCI Card and I was hoping it was going to work with that so it isn't??

Thanks in advance

I read somewhere that Doom3 will utilize AGP 8x, but I'm not sure exactly what that means as far as performance and quality. So the question is sort of what does AGP do besides transfer data faster.

I imagine that a Geforce4 PCI will run Max Payne.

Max2 should work fine with a 64MB GeForce4 (assumably MX) PCI graphics card. Don't expect maximum details though.

AGP is crucial to stream textures to the card's memory when it runs out. AGP cards have a fast point-to-point connection to system memory, and can use "non-local video memory" to add to their own, i.e. system ram can be used to increase local video memory.

Even an old AGP 2x bus is also an order of magnitude faster than a PCI bus.

But soon there will be PCI-Express... yay images/icons/smile.gif

AGP cards are so much better anyway.... images/icons/smile.gif

I have a Gefore4 4200 agp... i guess i'll be able to run at about 70 - 80% maximum detail.

don't count on it though... it will depend on your cpu and ram too..

my Radeon 9800 runs on AGP 8x

Yeah 1.6TB/channel should be nice. images/icons/smile.gif

I'm expecting Max to run a the midrange detail settings with a 1.5GHz, G4Ti4200 (128MB), and 512 PC2100 DDR.

Am I right?

I don't want to run it on the lowest details like I did with Max 1. images/icons/frown.gif

Did you guys here about that $400 graphics card they were showing on G-4? They said it would be able to run Half Life 2 and most of the other games that will be coming out this year. Sounds sweet! But it cost a whole lot!
I don't remember what the card was called or who made it. Just wondered it you pc-goers heard of it! images/icons/smile.gif

That's a sweet card, KillJoy. Don't let any of those NVidia-lovers fool you: the 9800 Pro 256MB whups the latest incarnation of the GeForce any day of the week.

But this isn't a hardware forum, so let's just cease and desist the videocard debate before it even starts, okay?!

I've got a Radeon 9100 and it cost me around 75 euros (6 months ago, now it's more like 50e) images/icons/tongue.gif

Well, thanks-I'll give it a try though, and see. If not, then I'll run out and buy that card you we're mentioning. You have to remember though, that Max Payne 1 wasn't made for WindowsXP, and I have XP, and got it to run, just fine. How? I downloaded some Detanator Drivers from nvidia, and installed the patch, and it worked. I will see though. Thanks.

Dont buy a geforce3 its already old. The abolute minimum you should get would be a Geforce4Ti. i bought one 9 months agao for $130, they should be pretty cheap. And honestly if you can afford it you should look for something better than that even.

Your system specs are okay but you have got a TNT 1 card for christ sake! I'd pray for it to even run the game at all, less alone at anything higher than absolute minimum specs.... images/icons/frown.gif
