Has any new game for like, a year or so, had support for software T&L?

You (wxpoet22) might like to buy a new motherboard and real graphics card (not an intergrated graphics CHIP).

Chances are your motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot. In any case, you might like to do some research:-

www.tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com) & www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com)

Seeing as you have an Intel CPU, you best go to your personal bank account (actual in credit bank account, parents, friends, what-have-you) and take out $200. Upto $100 for a DECENT new motherboard and the remainder for a decent AGP graphics card.

Anyways, if you want more information go to those sites or private message me on these here forums. Hope this all helps.

Regards,

Yickle.

"Intel® graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run. "

My question to Remedy is will Max Payne 2 cut us some slack by not checking for T&L thereby allowing us to run the game at an acceptable performance or will we be forced to use a PCI video or even change our motherboard? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Maxpayne 2 does not deserve to be run on that computer...

Compaq has those graphics chips, they are made for office use, not gaming, so I'm thinking it won't work.

Hmm, it's kinda funny, your processor and RAM are fine, but your video card was only acceptable by gaming standards two years ago. A 128MB card would balance out your system. images/icons/smile.gif

But I don't know how MP2 would work. The first game let you use softward T&L, so...

Does the RADEON 9800 support T&L?

Wxpoet,

Max2 runs both on i845G and i865G integrated graphics if you have a fast enough CPU to do the transform and lighting.

And with minimum details I might add.

i810/i815 (Pentium 3 integrated graphics) will not be sufficient.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Thanks. My neighbor has an i845G chipset for that machine so I'll try out Max Payne 2 demo on that one. I take it that we still have a chance to settle for software T&L instead of hardware T&L. Like myself, my neighbor also settled for a budget pc so we put up with everyone laughing at our PC as far as gaming goes.

Ah, you got me on that one. My PC has the i810e chipset in addition to Celeron 800 with 256 MB RAM. I did some research on the T&L and looked back at Max Payne 1. It seems that I was able to squeak by since we were then given the choice between hardware T&L and software T&L upon running the game. I was under the impression on the minimum specs of MP2 that those of us with integrated video systems were shut out.

P.S.: If I switch back to win98se from winxp pro, will I be able to play mp2 a little smoother on either or both my machine and/or my neighbor's? The reason I'm asking is win98se obviously takes up less resources than winxp pro in general and I take it that win98se is better at gaming than winxp pro.

Um, aside from eating up a little more RAM, XP is leagues ahead of 98. XP makes better use of your PC's resources, so it's in fact better for games.

I have over a gigabyte of DDR RAM, so I think XP is fine for me. images/icons/smile.gif
