Ok, I mean new here and i'm sure I'll get flamed banned , or what have you.. But I wanted to throw in my 2 cents, and then leave you alone images/icons/tongue.gif

I first played Max payne on the PC.. and went on and played it again on the Xbox .. I loved every minute of it.. The effects were incredible as were the slo-mo tricks, etc.. and the best part? why, the over the top cheezy Story line of course images/icons/tongue.gif .. the intermissions where a nice mix of photoshop filtered pictures of characters reanacting the the story line with their over the top gestures and goofy-ass grins..
Max payne for all its intended purposes Is more of a Dark comedy than it was a Dark Noir Film turned game... It was it's cheesines that kept me compelled to helping this character.. The fact that I realized that the grizzled Max payne was actually the 95 pound weakling wearing the hawaiian shirt, in the development Photo.. just put it over the top! I loved the Max payne game that much more.. It was almost as if the creators had made a satire of a Satire!! I mean C'MON the game is called MAX PAYNE!! with a "Y:""!!! images/icons/grin.gif
I loved it.. I began daydreaming of a Max Payne movie, with Johny Knockville as max Payne.. It would be Bloody, gritty and Hilarious!!

.....
Now, out comes the new Max Payne 2 stills.. ahh well.. What can I say?.. The grizzled tough Max payne is now really tough and grizzled.. ehh ok.. So what?.. this is serious gaming Cinema here?.. "Ok, now.. we have a single cop here, framed once again, and out to single handedly save the world!!" "stand back"..

Shame Shame folks, you let your prententiousness get the better of you. Gritty Dark Noir Cop films have been done to death.. At least Max payne was rediculious enough, to become an infectious comedy.. Now.. its just...

Max Payne....
yuk...

Similair Situation happened with the Movie Robocop,.. it was a dark comedy with incredible violence, and robocop2 strip all that away, prenteniously serious , and just showed us violence.

It's a shame to see Max payne follow the same path..

Yes you are right, Gritty Dark Noir Cop films have been done to death.

This is a game, you keep comparing all these things to movies and yet you seemingly forget that it's a game.

The atmosphere, the grittyness of the first game is what made me love it. I could tell Remedy were big fans of Hong Kong Cinema and I loved it.

It had it's comedic moments and also took itself seriously at other times. It had the perfect mix.

Max Payne 2 seems to up the noir part of it and I can't wait for the change.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm sure the gameplay is gonna rock.. hard..I didn't mention the gameplay elements for two reasons.. One, I haven't played the damn thing, and two.. if its any indication of the first, then I won't have any problems with it.. Which is why I kept my post to the subject of the story, and the presentation of the story..Which has obviously changed, and I know I'll leave feeling a bit detacted because it won't be as goofy as the first one.. I'm just saying the first one was unintentionaly funny, and thats what gave it its charm..
Also the reason I compare this to movies is because games have constently blurred the line over the years.. SO If I say, the presentation of the storyline isn't as great as the first one, and compare it to a movie, I would'nt be out of line..

Read the Post fellaz images/icons/tongue.gif

P.s. read the Title "Max Payne: a Film Noir Love Story"..
YOU may not want me to compare it to a Film.. but apparently the Developers would like me too images/icons/grin.gif

Yeah, it's been beaten to death in various forms, but I didn't hear anyone saying they had really made up their mind about the game just yet. We can only comment on what we know, so a premature judgement is difficult to avoid. As long as the mind stays open enough to actually want to like the game, it's fair. I still have trouble liking the new Max actor, for example, but I'm not losing sleep over it and I know I'm going to love the game regardless.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">How do you know it has changed if you haven't had a chance to experience any of it? To me atleast, the first MP seemed like a really dark noirish game judging by what I had seen before actually getting to play the game. The humour was pleasantly surprising. I'm hoping that's the case with numero deux too.

And I think most of Teh Funnay™ in the original was intentional. I usually don't laugh at things that seem unintentionally funny, I just find them sad and slap my forehead.

However, you're deciding a little early. I think this is one of the most open paths they could've taken with the story. I don't think Remedy would forget so quickly how to make a great over the top sattire.

I'm actually anticipating this game much more than I thought I would.

I heard rumours it had to be surgically removed after reading these forums for too long images/icons/tongue.gif
