Well since F:GAB for MP2 really hasn't been talked about too much, i decided to start a topic where the whole team can post some of the stuff we're working on. Our webpage is being redesigned so i think we will use this topic until we get everything set up.
I will start by finally giving you guys a preview of my gibbing system which will be used in F:GAB. I will use a different system for Cinema 2.0 (me and TerminX will cooperate to do it). Everything you see is placeholder of course... this is just a WIP of my current work and does not represent the final product... in fact, i imagine the end product will be far better http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The drag marks are also a WIP... i made them in like a minute with photoshop and the code took a bit of thinking but not too much. I haven't seen it done yet so maybe this will raise the bar a bit more for MP2 modding.
I put everything on a webpage to make for easier access and loading times. Trying to keep everything organized here...

Because this is full blown TC you'll have to wait for quite long time before we release this. Allthou' it helps that this TC was originally for MP1 so we have many characters and weapons already done and they are MP2 quality.
Also other work we did for MP1 wasn't total waste of talent, since there's going to be small "mini-tc" for it called Lame-Fallout. It was under beta testing few days ago and will be released soon.

Hehe ok, i recorded a quick video of the system in action. Keep in mind this is still a WIP so don't judge anything as final.
I toned down the blood decals to avoid slowing it down too much, but in the final, every gib will leave a blood decal when they touch the ground.
Note that we are going for a cartoony kind of gore, like the original fallout series. Also notice how i shot them before the grenade blew them up, this is because the gibbing depends on how much health the enemy has, so not all enemies will gib with a single grenade. Some of them won't gib unless they are damaged already (gibbing by health, nice little random factor. TerminX helped out with the gibbing by health by the way).
Anyways, the file is now hosted on my freewebs site. I'm also gonna try to get this hosted on L4Y to avoid it sucking up all my bandwidth.

I guess i could have put it better, we are aiming to produce gore that looks like it came out of a fallout game. Most fallout games were famous for their exagerated gore and violence (cartoony) and for their sense of humor.
Anyways, hope that clears it up. I'm still waiting for the file to be hosted in a better place by the way.

Speaking of which... would it be possible (once the models and bones are more figured out or officially released) to have parts of bodies fall loosely? I imagine the torso splitting animation from one of the Fallout games, where the left shoulder is completely removed (in MP2, anyway, it was attached bit a bit of flesh in Fallout, if I remember right) and flops around loosely, as well as the other part of the body? That'd be crazy good fun.
We've thought about it and the only way we could do it is if we somehow found a way to disable ragdoll bodies after they die. The only possible way we could do this is using a death animation and right now we can only modify a chosen few; burningdeath, grenadedeath and falling death... none of which are caused by regular bullets.
Maybe if we found a way in the future...

Gotta say though, I'm not following the cartoony point either. Fallout's violence looked realistic, as realistic as you can get with drawn sprites, if that's what you mean by cartoony then ok, but it isn't the right word. Capturing that old style is nice though.

i always thought fallout's violence was realistic(ish), but was always over-the-top, kinda stylised...i think thats what he means about 'cartoony'.

i think you should keep everything looking semi-realistic, but keep fallouts sense of humour, like DNF. It wont put off any people who don't like cartoony style, but they'll still get the jokes.
Also i'm just downloading this gibbing vid. Freewebs has reduced my transfer rate to 1 kb/s and I'm on cable modem.

Hmmm interesting... I don't recall what the video was encoded with but i think it might have been DivX 5.1
Try going to www.divx.com (http://www.divx.com) and downloading their player, then try to open the file with it. If not, i'm not sure what might be wrong... Any others having the same problem?
Edit: Uhh... i just downloaded the file from the L4Y mirror, it seems they somehow screwed up the file or maybe posted it wrong? The file weighs 2.50 MB but when you open it nothing is there.
Very weird i must say. I'll get in touch with them.

The webpage has now been updated to include more recent pictures of the gibbing system... I added those flaming gibs I was mentioning earlier. They do fire damage on contact so if you're lucky they will cause some extra havok for you http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Also notice some of the new blood drag marks, I'm not too sure about them right now but they do look insanely cool when they mix in with the regular blood after you shoot an enemy. I'm still working on them.
Flaming gibs fly a bit too far, still tweaking them and the other ones.

Anyways, last update for the night... its 4 AM and i'm still modding... I fixed the blood explosion particle and now it should work how it was intended... it no longer gets cut off by the floor like it did before. Tweaked flaming gibs a bit, plus, took a screenshot of the new dragmarks as they are barely visible in the gib pitcures i took.

that gibbing is totally hilarious to watch. I almost killed myself laughing watching that http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I was playing the matrix MPS and right when the track "Anything is possible" gets to the bit where neo stops the bullets, the cleaner just explodes in a cloud of blood XD
and that message at the end, "the perps were perpertrating as cleaners" just topped it off. I think you should change it to "the perps were 'perpertrating' all over the floor"

I don't think our team would mind sharing the gib code with you doomed, all i need is the particles and the gibs, plus any other decal or thing you may want to add in as an extra. I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but i also had some of the bigger gib chunks (you can see it in the video, look to the top right) explode into smaller chunks when they hit a surface.

I loved the Fallout games, and almost always choose the "extremely violent death" 'skill' ... I forgot what it was called, one of those sub-talents of yours you could choose... where they would almost always die in the most brutal of ways... Uisor: I'll give full credit plus linkage to the F:GAB site and anything else you want just to be able to use it. Is there anything I can do to make you reconsider? I understand if you don't want to though.
EDIT: I can provide the decals but I guess that's about it.
EDIT2: How are the gibs made? What format are they? Maybe I could try make something like that, I've got 3DMax5 so it wouldn't be too hard to model a gib and a particle I guess I could get someone like Joonas or something to make one for me.
If you give me code with temp gibs and particles (like a block for a gib and using the fire particle for the blood then I could replace it easily when I create the gib and particle).

ADM, those gibs are made in 3dsmax and they are .kf2 files and projectiles.
As almost all our character models this one is also made by Madhatter. I've been putting it ingame and those who have played FO:Tactics sees that it's still missing shoulder plates, but I hopefully get them in later today.
By the way, my bandwidth was just reset today, so that means those who didn't get a chance to look at the screenshots can now look over there.
There are also a bunch of screenshots floating around in max payne 2 sites i think.
Anyways, made some progress but nothing i can show in screenshots yet.
Updates:
- Got gibbing system pretty close to where i want it. I won't touch the code for a while now.
- Added armor system and different armor classes: Power armor, leather, etc. (code changes only)
- Combo system is now working... needs some tweaking but i can basically chain 2 attacks together at the moment. I have max using the disarm attack, and if the player presses forward after hitting, he continues the attack with a kick. This is just for testing stuff, i plan on using the system for other more interesting things later...
- Working on new ways of adding more death animations... i think i found a way to squeeze in those awesome shotgun deaths from fallout where you would shoot them and sometimes half their torso would just blow up... fallout fans know what I mean http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That ogre dood is insanely badass, but I must say the human looks like a deuchbag. Also, his proportions r very odd. It's all well and good if the Ogre has retarded proportions but humans must be accurately modelled.

I have uploaded some screenshots of the latest changes I have made to the gibbing system to the MPZone FTP upon their request, so if you want to see the latest screenshots please go over to their website and take a look when the news are posted about it. Ok, I have uploaded the shots to your FTP. These are screenshots of the latest work I've done on the gibbing system. The yellow explosions are the normal MP2 grenade explosions which I had previously disabled for all past screenshots. We might decide to include new particle effects for the F:GAB explosions or we might keep the regular MP2 ones... the system looks much better in action of course as with any other gibbing system.
I'm still not sure if the normal MP2 grenade explosions will fit in with the gibbing, all previous shots were taken with the explosion particle effect turned off. These new ones have it turned on again...

Other Updates
- Work still goes on... the combo system has been giving me some trouble lately. The fundamentals are there but it still needs major tweaking, screenshots to come when it's at more advanced stages.
- Been working on adding some new death animation chunks and tricking the game so I can get more than just the two we have available (burningdeath and grenadedeath). The method works well for what we need it to do... expect to see it used with energy weapons (Can anyone say "Death by plasma"?). Need particle effects for it and graphical content in general... it's already coded in, I just need to replace the placeholders.
- Shotgun death seems possible... more updates on that later.
- Gonna start work on improving the enemy AI for our own uses... mainly making them smarter and perhaps able to use melee weapons effectively. Making them able to use the hand to hand combat system we will be implementing later is a priority.

I didn't, i found a way to use the custom death animations for certain projectiles.

Nice advanced power armor there. Very nice.
The metal armor character could use a bit of proportioning, but I think the mutant looks damn near perfect.
Now...how about an alien blaster...or a turbo plasma rifle??

Model of Brotherhood scribe. Proportions of humans will be based on normal human skeleton(i wasn't paying too much attention on that), mutants and animals on modified.
BTW, Rico already mentioned that forum I made for PayneStore and F:GAB.
I'll gather all screens I can find there and for now on most of the info will be given out there, but that doesn't mean we won't give info, screens or videos to other places (like D6, MPZone or MPArea).

Hey fellas.
As some of you may have noticed I have been on a somewhat extended abscence, the reasom being because I moved last week and have been without access to the internet until today. I still need to get some of my stuff fixed but expect me back in the forums posting updates by next week,
Mod updates:
- I have added some sounds to the gibbing code which i took from the painkiller demo. They sound quite meaty and nice and I will keep them as placeholders until I get better sounds (or ask for permission).
- I came up with a way of adding hand to hand attacks and melee attacks to enemies. This system will allow us to create smarter enemies who react to what you do. So far i got them to attack me if i came within a certain distance with a punch, then they back off and fire at you with their original weapon.

- Fixed up splatter code for bodies contacting a surface, you have seen screenshots already.
I have plenty more things i have done... expect a more thorough update when i get back.

Well seriously there won't be anything playable released in 3 - 4 months, least. That's because so far I'm only confirmed mapper and I have also other things to do than mapping.
Madhatter: If you mean melee weapons a player can use that is extremely easy and I wouldn't worry about that. The enemies in MP2 are kind of stupid when it comes to programming them so I had to pull some tricky stuff to get them to smarten up. I'm still working on making for example an enemy that only attacks with hand-to-hand attacks, the code for that is pretty much done but I need to tweak them a little bit so they won't try to fire at you from far away (punching at the air). Shouldn't take long now that I know my way around the AI... MP2 AI was definitely not made for hand-to-hand combat.
Ah yes, I'm not sure if I've said this already but I altered the ragdoll physics a tad. This is a very old change I just forgot to mention it I guess. Basically I made bodies fly like you would expect them to, if you shoot a guy with a shotgun blast to the chest he will fly backwards with his arms and legs extended forward, his head tilted forward and his chest taking all the force, here's a diagram for those who don't understand what I mean :P

Hmm, i guess it knind of looks like that except the torso is farther back and the head is tilded forward... bah ok, easier way to explain: They die like they would die with a normal death in fallout (fall back with force).

Well there is a shortrange option in the weapon.txt so maybe that will help the Npc. I have also found a way when u use kungfu then the enemies will use kungfu too.
Nah, the short range option in the weapon text file doesn't help any, I already tried that. However I would be intereted to know how you did your hand to hand stuff with the enemies. Send me an email or PM and we can talk.
One More update before I come back to my usual routine (my network should be fixed this weekend):
- Added a hand-to-hand system (I despise the word kung-fu describing hand to hand attacks and martial arts). All I need are the animations to implement it. The combo system is still there but it needs tweaking as i never ironed all the bugs out in the first place. I can make wallruns combos and other stuff like that.
- Different moves for different abilities in your unarmed attack level... meaning, as you advance you will get more moves and attacks. I might go for a leveling system depending on how I feel about it. I do not feel it is worth the work just yet... but we do have different levels of attacks, just implemented in a different way from the usual KF3 people expect. (Change is good sometimes)
- Throws: Yes, that's right I said throws. I'm working on ways to implement throws and locks into the unarmed combat system. While this was not seen in the Fallout universe I believe it is a nice addition nonetheless to the TC so I will work on that for a while. I have a pretty good idea on how to do it and all I require to get it to beta stages is some animations. Rico ... for the throws ... are we talking potential grappling moves to break/wound/"critical" limbs? I'd love to see flying armbar's and whatnot to break arms and disarm people, forcing them to switch hands and punch, or limp (depending on the type of attack)... that'd kick ass. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We have a wireless G accesspoint through which we route the connection. This means we connect the DSL modem to a router first, then from the router to the access point. The connection is probably not going as fast as it should since I only have a wireless - B receiver card and the acc point is G, but it's decently fast whenever it's not INCREDIBLY slow. Yesterday I could not even open a webpage and today I can't tell the difference between wireless and a regular network.
I think last night can be blamed on my ISP though... damn Verizon.
It should be faster after I get a G card.
We still need a webmaster, a sound effects guy and of course mappers are always welcome.

I love FO and I'm really looking forward to this. However I think that flamethrower could use a better skin, and a couple models could use some face work.
