This is about the upcoming Batman movie directed by Christopher Nolan, currently titled "Batman Begins", and formerly under the title of "Batman: Intimidation" and "Batman: The Intimidation Game".
Anyways, this movie's been getting a lot of very postive buzz and great script reviews, and I'm hugely anticipitating it. Not to mention it has one of my favorite Batman nemesis', Ra's al Ghul, along with the origin story finally told in full. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hopefully it will be good enough to wipe Batman and Robin from memory. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The cast of course is extremely awesome:
Batman/Bruce Wayne: Christian Bale ( A choice too perfect for words... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
Alfred: Michael Caine
Ra's Al Ghul: Ken Watanebe
Ducard: Liam Neeson
Lt. Jim Gordon: Gary Oldman ( http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif )
Lucius Fox: Morgan Freeman
And finally, a villain who WB has not revealed yet, but suspected to be the Scarecrow: Cillian Murphy

It just better be dark and serious like the first two.
What's the setting in this new batman?

In addition to what you have, the Internet Movie DataBase (http://imdb.com/title/tt0372784/) has
Katie Holmes .... Rachel
It also has this plot synopsis.
A new restart of the "Batman" franchise under the helm of "Memento" Director Chris Nolan and more in tone with the early "Batman: Year One" style comics. As a boy a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of his eyes, a trauma which led him to become obsessed with revenge but his chance is cruelly taken away from him by fate.
After disappearing to the East where he seeks counsel with the dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra's Al-Ghul, he returns to his now decaying Gotham City overrun by organised crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system whilst the company he inherited is slowly being pulled out from under him. The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armoured suit leads him to take on a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong - he becomes, Batman.
In the new guise, and with the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various nefarious schemes in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan 'The Scarecrow' Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

The most important thing about these franchises is to attach talent to the projects. New Line took a chance with Peter Jackson, who hadn't tackled anything near the scope of LOTR. But he's talented. Sony took a chance with Sam Raimi, another director with more indie and cult credit than actual monster-budget experience. But he's talented. The exception might be Ang Lee and The Hulk. It looked good on paper, but geez, man!
Nolan hasn't done anything appoaching a monster budget or action movie (although his movies have been appropriately dark). But he's obviously talented. It makes me shake my head to see Warner Bros. hand the rebirth of the Superman franchise over to someone like McG.
By the way, I agree that Bale is a fantastic choice for a younger Batman.

Ken Watanabe? Now that's cool. I liked him in Black Rain a lot.
Finally a movie with the scarecrow! Although I'm not sure if I like it that he's in a Batman moviwe about the beginnings (Wouldn't the Joker fit better?), I must agree that Cillian Murphy is good for the part and that he's (scarecrow) better than anybody trying to be Jack Nicholson. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Funny thing about the Batman movies. Tim Burton did such a good job with Michael Keaton in the first two that the other movies feel "cheap" to me now. And that's a feeling I can't shake off.

I was very happily surprised when Nolan was annonced as director...I mean, you have McG going on Superman( http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mryuck.gif), so it was logical to assume the worst. But Nolan's style is really fitting for Batman and he's a great director, and seems to be going in a terrific direction here.
What's interesting about Bale's casting is he was the faboy's favorite. All over the internet various Bat-fan's were yelling out "Bale DAMMIT!" and he actually got cast. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Well, if they used the Joker they'd probably be worred about it being too similar to Batman '89. Not to mention I'm not envious of whatever actor would have to live up to Jack Nicholson. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
Cillian Murphy should be really interesting as the Scarecrow, and Watanebe is an awesome choice for Ra's. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Aronfronsky was working on a straight adaption of the comic book "Batman: Year One", titled, oddly enough, "Batman: Year One". http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It fell through when he left to work on "The Fountain" instead, I believe. That was to be a complete prequel to the previous movies, while "Batman Begins" is a full out restart of the franchise, which I think is the best way to take it...

I can't understand why the hell they're still keeping that idiot haridressing producer, Jon Peters, a guy who hates Superman, and wants to change him into a murderous hero dressed black leather, using gadgets such as a flying "Supermobile http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif and fighting villains such as a spider-monster and a gay robot. Oh, and he doesn't want Superman to even fly, either. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Not to mention they passed up M. What? They wanted to take away Superman's flying abilities? Are they insane?
Bad enough to hire McG, who still has to deliver a movie with a story that makes actually sense, but gay (!) robots and now this?
Does anybody have a link where I can take a look at the atrocity that this new Superman film is going to be (meaning collection of their plans for it)?
I'm really really glad that the new Batman is soundingf rather good right now. It's needed after Batman & Robin (WTF were they thinking? "Haha, let's make this Batman movie a joke like the TV show"). Do they really want to restart the Batman movie series with it?

Here's a link to a Superman script review (http://www.latinoreview.com/scriptreviews/superman/flyby.html). I couldn't find a date for when the review was done.
Here's another review. (http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=13350)
Here's some bad stuff mentioned in this review.
So, of course, first off, Krypton doesn't explode.
And as blisters erupt all over Superman and he cries out in pain, we SHOCK CUT TO: Naboo.
Seriously. It's Naboo. Oh, sure, they call it Krypton in the script, but it?s instantly recognizable as the Naboo of EPISODE I. Green fields. Forests nearby. Little girl playing. Everything peaceful. And then the big war machines come rolling in. Again, I?m picturing EPISODE I. Three-legged robot tanks. Mechanical soldiers taking a royal city. A civil war raging suddenly, ruining the peaceful green planet.
When he's 14, he finds a silver cannister hidden in his parents' closet (he?s busy using his x-ray vision to see what's in his Christmas presents). It's not normal, and it slides open like liquid. Some sort of red substance is inside, neither liquid nor solid, and it suddenly SPRINGS out...The Superman suit. The one you know.
Full-sized, standing by itself, as if worn by a grown man, cape waving.
And when Clark goes to touch it, it rips his clothes off and sucks him into the suit. He's obviously too small for it, but that doesn't stop him. He runs out and begins to experiment with it, running and leaping and finally taking off. Flying. In a suit that?s too big for him.
Jimmy's a little younger, and is described as ?Brooklyn-born and somewhat effeminate.? Perry White makes jokes about Jimmy?s boyfriend later in the scene. It's one of those bizarre choices that you hope you?re misreading. It?s suggested more than anything, but it is suggested. It certainly could be read that way. Did they just arbitrarily decide to suggest that Jimmy's gay?
I remember that Kevin Smith once talked about how following screenings of CHASING AMY and STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE ? THE SPECIAL EDITION, Jon Peters decided he wanted a gay robot in the SUPERMAN LIVES script that Smith was writing at the time. Is this another way for Peters to work the jones out?
Then it's back to Naboo, for more crap we couldn't care less about. I cannot stress this enough. Krypton is so powerfully uninteresting in the script that my eyes would glaze over at the mere sight of the word. We find Kata-Zor playing some kind of silly space chess with PREDIUS (a concentration camp prisoner who we don't learn anything about, but who the script promises will be very important in the next film), and Ty-Zor comes in to tell his dad that they found Kal-El. Because I guess they were watching Earth TV just in case or something.
Keep in mind that all of this is within days of Superman's first appearance. The timetable is something ridiculous like a week. They're working to pack so much into this script that it begins to smell desperate.
So... he does what Superman would do.
He goes in.
And he dies.
.
.
.
.
And the way they bring him back has got to be one of the dumbest, dippiest, New Age bullsh*t scenes in a major franchise picture that I can think of. It?s re-goddamn-diculous. Jor-El ?senses? the death of his son all the way from Krypton, so he slices his own stomach open and goes to Heaven where he explains to Jor-El that he CAN?T die. I halfway expected him to say, ?Look, son, this is just the first film in the trilogy. You can't be dead yet.? His excuse isn't much better. He explains that The Prophecy says that the Son of Krypton will defeat a great trial on a distant planet before coming home to kick some ass. ?And since I know you're going to come save Krypton, you can't die on Earth.?
Kal-El can't really argue with such spotless logic, so he returns to his body and digs himself out of the grave where he was put to rest.
Seriously. Jor-El argues him out of being dead.
Actual lines from the script follow:
LUTHOR
The good soldier. The loyal. The dedicated. The tenacious. That?s me. When others would have quit ? when others have. I kept up the charade. Following orders that made me sick! To impersonate the very thing I despise most in the universe.
(to Lois, with disdain)
Those like you.
LUTHOR
I was hoping to do this on a slightly larger scale, SUPERMAN... but here we are. And the only way for me to be the good soldier is to tell you the truth.
(intense, evil beat)
No, that pod the CIA recovered... it wasn't yours.
LUTHOR
IT WAS MINE!
He's Lex Luthor. And he's got superpowers. And he flies.
Painful.....

And just for a description about Jon Peters, who has been producing the project for years now:
Jon Peters is a sixth grade dropout, who became Barbara Streisand's hairdresser, which got him into a position where he became a producer. One of the "classic" movies that this "genius" has produced is Wild Wild West.
Peter's obviously hates Superman. He has been trying with all his might to not have Superman's classic costume, because he think it's too "pink", and instead wants Superman to wear a Matrix-y all black costume. He thinks Superman flying is stupid and that he should use a flying Supermobile instead. He wanted Superman to have a gadget called "K".
In a previous script written by Kevin Smith, Peter's forced Smith to add in all kinds of lame as hell shit, such as one of the villains, Braniac, having a gay(and I mean gay, as in homosexual, not happy) robot as his sidekick, not to mention Peter's layed down his foot and demanded that's Superman's Fortress of Solitute had to have either bodyguards or polar bears that guarded it all time. When the script was almost done, he made Smith write in a fight with a giant spider-monster. Oh yeah, and he seems to dislike Lex Luthor too since he's always either being an alien in disguise or mutating into this monstrosity. And yes, this could have been Lex Luthor. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif
http://www.superman-v.com/superman%201%20copy.jpg
Oh yeah, and Jon Peters' is also somewhat illiterate. I'm not joking, he has the writers READ THEIR SCRIPTS OUTLOUD TO HIM. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Arkhangel posted the script review of what the movie currently seems to be headed towards, while I am describing his older attempt at a Superman movie from about 1997. Though I think that there's also the fact that a movie that is truly the story of Batman's origin(his beginning http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) has, when you really think about it, never really been told. Batman '89 had a brief flashback to his parents getting killed, but we've never seen in a movie how Bruce Wayne was driven enough to train across the world years abroad, and return to Gotham City as it has been overrun by crime and controlled by corrupt leaders and crime bosses. Finally pushing him to go all the way to becoming a feared vigilante slwoly bringing down the web of corruption, Batman.

Here's some rumors, news and such just to throw into the wind.
Christian Bale talks Batman! (http://www.superherohype.com/batman/index.php?id=902)
Listen to him here, or read what he says in the paragraph below (http://media.t-online.de/bunte/F/wm/batmanFW10000048349.asx)
"I think Batman is probably more aggresive than most everybody I've ever played, you know. I wanted to take it, because, firstly, when I heard that there was a consideration of doing more of the movies, I just felt like I hadn't been quite satisfied with what I'd seen in the other movies. Certainly in the last two. And it seemed as though there was actually a real character here, that it wasn't just a bland kind of superhero, one-dimensional. With him there really was an interesting character to be played. I loved the kind of fantastical notion of the superhero, but at the same time being able to bring a psychologically interesting element to that. And then Chris Nolan is directing who, you know, is not a director I would have expected to do this movie. So that was ideal to me, I liked the fact that the people hiring Chris, hiring myself, were going with people who did want to reinvent the story and have it not just be a continuation."
Possible reports on the movie's Batmobile, or complete bullshit? You decide. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Here's one that sounds out of left field from 'Tomato', though we're hearing that there might be something to it. Our scooper says he got a peek this week at the new Batmobile for Christopher Nolan's Batman at Shepperton Studios...
2 F1 style tires at front, and four huge monstertruck style nobbly tires at rear. Batmobile not long, but wide, also has jet at rear. 2 seater side byside, it was mobile and driving. The one I saw had no shell.
Heard from a friend who knows a guys (sounds very cliche) who was involved with a process on the Batmobile. He was sworn to secrecy about it and so was I but I felt it my duty as a huge Batman fan to mention that the first description of the car with the monster truck wheels seems about right, with the car being extremely wide and a middle bit that will come lose from what was described to me similar to Batman Returns when he goes through the tight alley and the sides come off. However, this one is more likely to expand and retract. It will shoot fire/fire balls as one of it's gizmos and that's all I can remember.
We'll have to wait and see if these reports are accurate, it's just too early to tell right now.

Well, that Batmobile stuff sounds not so good IMO. Let's wait and see how it'll turn out. I'd really want to know how it looks finally.
And Superman...
This movie is flop already. If this Peters guy has anything to say, it will be horrible and very embarrassing for everyone involved. These are the worst ideas I've ever heard. I'd rather watch the 70s Spiderman show or the old Batman series with Adam West. These are shitty too but at least they're funny.
Really, even Catwoman sounds like a ingenious blockbuster to me. Yes, with that new costume.

It fell through when he left to work on "The Fountain" instead, I believe. That was to be a complete prequel to the previous movies, while "Batman Begins" is a full out restart of the franchise, which I think is the best way to take it...
Just a tweak, The Fountain was part of the deal, Warner Bros. let Darren Aronofsky make The Fountain then he would do Batman: Year One, but then Brad Pitt feel through on Fountain and Warner stopped liking Fountain so much and liking Batman vs. Superman more so they quietly put both Aronofsky projects to sleep. Interestingly enough Foundtain is getting back on track which may mean Aronofky's Lone Wolf & Cub adaptation will be put off.
Chris Nolan's project though is built off of the Batman 5 project, Batman: The Frightening, but it was developed into the current prequel we have today.
You can read the 15 years in the making of Superman 5 right here: http://www.x-human.net/superman_5.shtml
Batman Begins will blows Burton's away, because over time it's really begun to show its cracks. It's still a good movie, and a 25th Anv. SE DVD is coming soon, but many Batman fans are disapointed because they got a LOT wrong. Buzz on the Noland project is they got a lot more right. I still would have wanted Arnofsky's Year One, but this project is still heavily influenced by Frank Miller's Batman so I'm not too disapointed.
The fear now is that Catwoman will bomb and will not be making an appearance in future Batmans, but hopfully the fact that she is not Kyle will prevent that from happening.

I agree about Burton's Batman. I'm still a huge fan of the movie, but in recent years it started feeling more flawed than it did when it first came out. It's more "Tim Burton's Batman", IMO, than "Batman". And I can't say I was ever a fan of the rubber suit. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Well, that Batmobile stuff sounds not so good IMO. Let's wait and see how it'll turn out. I'd really want to know how it looks finally.
I kinda like the sound of it---sound vaguely like the Batmobile in "Dark Knight Returns". http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

i ignored everything after that unbearable third part with val "the ego" kilmer. i don't know what came over joel schumacher. he's a very good director otherwise.
When Joel Schumacher was in Australia promoting Phone Booth, and interviewer asked him if Val Kilmer was as difficult to work with as rumoured. Schumacher's response was "he's worse." and "he's damaged goods."

Batman Begins will blows Burton's away, because over time it's really begun to show its cracks. It's still a good movie, and a 25th Anv. SE DVD is coming soon, but many Batman fans are disapointed because they got a LOT wrong.

The problem is not hat her costume shows too much, the problem is that it looks absolutely ridiculous. Even I could design a better Catwoman costume. Michelle's costume was not just better, it was awfully f*ckin great. I totally agree with you. Ýes, it looked indeed damn sexy.

Well yes, that's part of the point. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It sacrificed functionality for looks, and it really was completely against Batman's fighting style to do the "Stand around or walk, pretend I'm dead but not" slow method of fighting.
--> Who killed his parents in the "original"? Some random thug?
Yes. That's an important part, IMO. If Batman kills the murderer of his parents as in Batman '89, his vengeance is over and so is Batman. And having the murderer be just some random, faceless criminal that for all we know may have died in the gutter the next day, effectively makes him only a symbol for all the crime in Gotham, leading Batman to his war on crime, never able to truly fulfill his revenge.
--> What is her origin in the comic book?
The stench of evil that permeates Gotham City has transformed some of its citizens in different ways. On one side of town, a rich boy grew up to be a hero in the darkness. On the other side, the wrong side, fate has transformed an ignored, scared little girl into one of the city's greatest criminals. It isn't fair, but Selina Kyle has never known "fair". Born into a pour family, on Gotham's mean streets, Selina's parents tried to be loving, but poverty and depression ground them down. As a child, Selina saw her mother, a clinical depressive, commit suicide, and witnessed her father drink herself to death not long after. Then, Gotham services got into the act, singing the same song of comfort: "Trust us, we'll take care of you. We promise." They lied. The orphanage where she was supposed to be cared for, protected and nurtured, turned out to be Hell on Earth. Young Selina ended up tied in a sack and tossed in the river to drown like an unwanted kitten - but she escaped to free the other kids in the orphanage and give the wardens the justice they deserve. Things might have gotten better then, but Selina was through taking chances. By now she learned the lesson: Parents couldn't protect her; neither could the government. The only person she could trust was herself. Still just a kid, she made a concious decision not just to survive, but to prosper as well. Inspired by the costumed crime fighter known as Batman, Selina made herself a cat outfit, and set herself up as a master cat-burglar. Catwoman soon discovered a clandestine ninja dojo in Gotham. Selina became a pupil, mastering several forms of martial arts in addition to her natural athletisism. Martial arts skills aided by physical memory; once Selina’s seen a move, she retains it for life. She was also trained in Boxing and Pugilist skills by former Heavyweight Champ Ted Grant, the hard-hitting hero known as Wildcat. As perhaps the most accomplished cat-burglar in Gotham’s history, Selina’s deeds have not escaped the notice of a certain Dark Knight. So far, she has managed to continually elude capture by remaining one step ahead of Batman and Gotham’s law enforcement. Catwoman’s reputation as a thief without compare precedes her, however, and Selina has struggled to retain anonymity despite her daring capers. More than one government agency and criminal organisation has sought to cage and use her, to no avail.

In the meantime, on topic, http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif here's Cillian Murphy saying a few words about Batman....
<font color="yellow"> After playing small roles in "Cold Mountain" (as a kindhearted Union soldier) and "Girl With a Pearl Earring" (as Scarlett Johansson's butcher-boy suitor), Murphy screen-tested for director Christopher Nolan for the title role in summer 2005's "Batman Begins." The part went to Christian Bale, but Nolan chose Murphy to play Dr. Jonathan Crane, alias Scarecrow.
"I never really saw myself as Batman material, but it was very nice to be offered the other role. If anyone's going to reinvent the franchise, it'll be Chris Nolan," Murphy says of the "Memento" director. Details of the project are closely guarded, but he expects Nolan to focus on the dark side of the comic-book saga. </font>

Not really Batman Begins, but this is really interesting: everyone remember when "Batman: Year One" was in development, and was going to be directed by Darren Aronfronsky with the script by Aronfronsky and Frank Miller? It seems if that movie had actually come out, it wouldn't have been as great as we hoped:
Monday, March 15, 2004, 6:40 AM CST: I got a head's up on an interesting book by David Hughes titled TALES FROM DEVELOPMENT HELL (You can click on the link for info and to buy the thing if you want!) that features the details of the Aronofsky/Miller BATMAN: YEAR ONE project. And according to BOF reader "Andrew," here are a few of the details. And I think that you'll clearly see why WB did not go with this screenplay....
Bruce Wayne is stripped of his status as "heir apparent" to the Wayne fortunes. Instead he is found in the streets after his parents murder, and is taken in by "Big Al" (Alfred?!!) who runs a auto repair shop with his son.
While working at the repair shop, he watches the coming and goings of pimps, johns and corrupt cops at a sleazy cathouse across the street., while a chain -smoking James Gordon struggles with corruption he finds throughout the Gotham City police force.
At first, he disguises himself wearing a cape and hockey mask (WTF!--Jett). However, the costume evolves with both form and function, and Wayne acquires a variety of makeshift gadgets and weapons. Bruce, reconfigures a black Lincoln Continental into a make shift 'Bat-Mobile'- complete with blacked out windows, night vision driving goggles, armoured bumpers and a super charged school bus engine.
In his new guise as "The Batman," Bruce Wayne wages war on criminals from street level and up the food chain to a Commissioner Loeb and Mayor Noone--as the executors of the Wayne estate search for the missing heir.
In the end Bruce accepts his dual destiny as heir to the Wayne fortune and the city's saviour, and Gordon comes to accept that, while he may not agree with The Batman's methods, he cannot argue with the results.
The comic and the script have many scenes in common--including Bruce Wayne's nihilistic narration, a heroic Gordon saving a baby from a hostage crisis, Selina as proto-Catwoman, the beating Gordon receives from his fellow cops as a warning to give up his war on corruption, his suspicion that Harvey Dent is The Batman, and the climatic battle in the tenement building.
Different, yes. But not my cup of tea to be frank. Could the Y1 script review that showed up online a few years ago--the feaured a "Jive-talking Alfred"--actually have had a bit of truth to it? As I said earlier, it is obvious to me just why WB never gave the greenlight to the script. Sorry, but it went too far away from the traditional Bat-mythos, while David Goyer and Chris Nolan nailed it. Thus, they got the gig rather quickly as opposed to Aronofsky, Miller and their Y1 floundering in "development hell" for years.

Producer Charles Roven talks Batman Begins!!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
___________________________________________
http://filmforce.ign.com/batman/articles/499/499269p1.html
[quoted from article]
As we all now know, Batman Begins started shooting a few weeks ago in Iceland. Not a lot is known other than the fact that this will be a completely new Batman series unrelated to the Joel Schumacher fiasco of the late '90s. The director is Christopher Nolan, the writer is David S. Goyer and Christian Bale is Batman. Michael Caine plays Wayne's butler, Alfred, and Katie Holmes is the dark knight's love interest.
At the press junket for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed this past Saturday, IGN was able to dig up a few more details on Batman Begins from producer Charles Roven. While most involved on the project have been very tight-lipped, Roven seemed very excited to talk about the success of the first few weeks of production.
"It's a very exciting, big film," says Roven. "There's no question about that. We started shooting a week ago in Iceland. Actually two weeks ago in Iceland. We were hit by the most crazy weather. It would be sunny and within two hours we were in a rain storm with 75 mile an hour winds, but we kept shooting. Things have been going very well. We start shooting, the main shooting, in London on Monday. I'm flying back for that. We've got a fantastic cast."
While rumors have circulated on the casting of the new Batman series for a number of years now, most fans are pretty happy with the choice of Christian Bale. We asked Roven what made Bale stand out as the dark knight: "His screen test, really. He gave just an amazing screen test. Well, many of the actors that screen-tested were really good. I don't want to say that they weren't. It's just that he brought that charm that a billionaire playboy would have when he was playing Bruce Wayne. He brought that intensity that you would want Batman to have as this dark knight. And also, in the scenes with Katie Holmes, very romantic. Even if the romance was only subtextual, it was there."
If the series hits, Bale is also signed for the sequels.<font color="lightgreen">(----Dr.Dude: YES!!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )</font> "He knew that if he was going to do Batman, if we were fortunate, we would be doing more than one. I don't remember [how many he is signed to], actually. Even the old Batman, the Batman that was started by Tim Burton, went through the change from Keaton to Val Kilmer, and the Val Kilmer version, which was, I think, Batman Forever, was a very successful movie. So, it didn't rely on Michael Keaton even though he's a fabulous actor and was a fabulous Batman."
Many scripts and screenwriters have also fallen by the wayside during pre-production on a new Batman movie. David S. Goyer ultimately took a crack at the script and found himself with the winning hand. " great script." says Roven. "I think that his collaboration with Chris Nolan was what was exciting. They both wanted to do a different kind of Batman. I don't want to say they wanted to make it less comic book. In fact they wanted to make it to be more like the original Detective Comics when Batman first started, which was less cartoony. Less campy, less comic book. Less comic booky as opposed to comic book. And so, that's what's so great about this script is that it's got a true sense of reality about it and it goes into really great detail about how Bruce Wayne [became Batman], why he picked Batman as the icon he wanted to be as the dark knight and his whole journey of leaving his billions as Bruce Wayne and becoming this character and does it in a very real way. You would believe somebody who came from that background and had the tragedy of having his parents killed in front of him, he might gravitate to that. The mentors that he had to help him grow to this, and also the technology is very real, very scientifically based that you could . The batmobile is fantastic and, in being fantastic, you could see that one could be created today. And the same thing with the Batsuit, it could be created today. And all of the gadgetry that he's got..."
While no pictures have yet surfaced of the bat suit or Batman's gadgets, Roven was willing to disclose a few details on the infamous Batmobile. [b]"We've been shooting the Batmobile and it's just a fantastic piece of equipment. It drives very fast, it goes well within excess of a 100 miles an hour, it can get up there within a quarter mile, it turns on a dime, it's got no front axle, it's just spectacular. It flies, I mean it jumps. But it's all practical. I would say that this is a cross between a Humvee and a Lamborghini Countach." <font color="lightgreen">[i](---Dr.Dude: Sounds great to me! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Not the Bat-tank as previously rumored, though I liked that idea too... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )</font>
While everyone knows Batman Begins is far from cheap, Roven wouldn't disclose specifics. "You know, it's definitely a nine figure budget. You know, I think when you're dealing with franchises like that, it's about all revenue, making money or not. Surely these movies, all of these movies, have to do in excess of a 100 million dollars in U.S. box office to be successful. Not that they can't make money without it. They can. I don't think that our Batman cost any more money than [Last Samurai] even though they're both in excess of a 100 million dollars. The point is, today, Last Samurai is immensely successful, hugely successful for the studio, and that movie didn't have any merchandising so its ancillaries are only the audio/visual ancillaries, even though it only did 114 or 120 million dollars in the United States."
One of the biggest tasks for Batman Begins when it comes to promotion will be to disassociate itself from the previous series and the awful final chapter, Batman and Robin, in particular. "Oh no, we will. Absolutely. I think the last one was the problem, I don't think it was the one before that. That's part of our job is to make them forget that. I think we will. How about this: On the research that we did around the world, [the Batman character] has 100 percent awareness. I'm just saying that people are interested in this character, just like they are Superman, just like they are Spider-Man. The thing that makes Batman different is he has no super powers."

I have doubts about that being the script, but there were a LOT of rejections of the screenplays, apparently WB asked them to start from scratch each time. Aronofsky said some time ago that studio bosses wanted "some edge, and a different take to the material." So it's possible the story got that mutated.
But when you look at the changes, they're superficial. How can I say that after "bashing" Burton? Well, Burton's Batman killed. That's a big no-no, and is just a example of how the character was fundementally wrong. Y1's character was just transplanted, Alfred was ****** up, but it did lay a foundation for getting the series back on DC canon. Rather cleverly actually. It's not like this was Stan Lee's Batman, the character seemed to still be there.

Don't let my "youthful enthusiasm" fool you--- http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I try to keep my expectations from going through the roof. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif But with all the great news coming in for Batman Begins---it's hard to contain it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
If this movie is gonna be half as good as it sounds, it should be the movie all hardcore Bat-fans have been waiting for, IMO. Especially me. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
which leads me to spider-man(don't want to hijack your thread so i'll make it quick). you know they've already mentioned part 3(at least dunst has). anyways, if all they're gonna get is raimi and maguire and dunst for the 3 movies, that should be it. no more spider-man movies. leave them alone after the creative team is done with them. otherwise, it'll be ran into the ground and i DON"T want that to happen with spidey.
they're already talking replacement actors for the sequels past 3.
sony-please talk to warner bros about batman.
I'm kinda torn there---I do want more Spidey movies, but I don't want a Jole Shumacher situation. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif At the same time though, I'm more terrified of letting go of Sam Raimi( If I was gay or a woman I would make love to that man on the street! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )than the actors, so I could deal with a recasting. I'll just hope for the best after Spider-Man 3 comes out... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif and IMO, hopefully Raimi stays aboard...
The shape's really cool but will they put it with this brownish-furry pattern on the costume?
Bah, it's rusted brown iron, not fuzzy! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'll bet my right testie( Not my left one this time http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) that the logo will be black. Almost all reports on the costume has described both the bat-symbol as being "huge, covering the whole chest" and usually as being the comic-book colors of gray and black. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif A brown logo wouldn't look so good on gray, IMO. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

<font color="yellow"> [It seems] The Scarecrow will appear in FULL costume during a [fear gas induced] hallucination towards the end -- Arkham perhaps. Also got to see a pic of the actual mask--let me say this thing is f'ing disturbing; really, this thing will scare the s##t out of you. It's a very dark drown, it had no hat and no hat will be with the sack. The eye holes were scary to look at with no eyes, so what they will look like with eyes is anyone's guess. </font>

Oh who are we kidding, it's a freakin abomination.
WTF is that?! They turned the batmobile into some monstor-truck/F1 dune buggy. Is Gotham going to be in the middle of a freakin swamp?! Is it that hard not to make something ugly? Bunch of hollywood screw-ups.
Well there goes the notion of the movie being even better than the original. Now we can only hope if it'll be decent, because if they can't even get the design of the car right, you can only imagine what the film is going to be like.
The shows not even over yet, we still haven't seen the costume yet. Dissapointments ahoy.

Say what you will, but I love that car. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif In the movie the Batmobile is originally developed be Wayne Enterprises for the military(Most likely Bruce steals it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )----and this definitely shows it. Yes, the front is a little too exposed. I'd rather have atleast a partial hood covering those front wheels (more to hide what's behind them). If the hood's shaped to a pointy projection(like the edges of the bat symbol or his cape) at the tip, it would restore some elegance to it as well. Otherwise it's still sexy. "Different"- sexy. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif
Dr.Dude
03-31-2004, 12:30 PM

I'd imagine if there's a sequel they'll add on more "bat-like" elements, like the "bat-wings"on the previous cars, and probably make it a little smoother as well. After all, it is only the "first" or "Beginning" Batmobile.... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well you see looking different isn't the same as a wardrobe change, not even the way Bale changes his body (in those pics we see him pushing it to the limits in both directions) but it's being a different character, not a different version of you. So from the pics the only thing we can comment on is how he holds himself and how is body language is completely different.
Bale is already very well respected. I hardly think Batman is going to be his test. He's not great yet, but he is deffinatly headed that way.

Thanks for your answer dude. I almost got it mixed up with Spiderman or something. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
Seriously, I have never seen the original verison, only the German localized one. So it could have been possible that the series was named differently in the original. For example "Star Trek" (the classic series) is "Raumschiff Enterprise" in German, that is "Starship Enterprise" in English. See, the actual name of the whole franchise (which developed later of course) was not even in the title of the show in Germany. There are a gazillion animated Spiderman series and they all have different names, not simply "Spiderman". Who else thinks Adam West should get a cameo in Batman Begins?! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif
Did you know?
According to the comic books, Batman/Bruce Wayne stands 6-feet-2-inches in height. Of all the actors to portray Batman, Adam West is the only actor who stood the same height.
What height is Christian Bale? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

1. Is there a DVD collection of Adam West's Batman? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif(What was the series called exactly?)
2. Long cape? I don't see no nothing, how are you seeing that it's very long? I can't even see his legs, I can't see the steps he is walking down, there is something in front of him, his legs and the end of the cape...SO HOW CAN YUO SEE STUFF? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
The cape is drapping over the railing so I'm assuming just by that, that the cape itself is long or at least longer than what's been seen in previous movies.

Actually, the cape seems to be longer than him. Let's hope he doesn't step on it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Excellent....long cape. I thought those tiny ass capes looked girly.
Cool. Look like they managed to get the dark-demon-phatmon-look, well all most. I have not read any version the batman comics. The only things I know about batman comes from the 1990s WB animated series. So I'm heavy influence by it. Maybe they should pull a spideman with some reflective lens for the eyes, it will a allow the glowing eyes in the dark effect. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
EDIT : he might want to do something about his hair, makes him look kind of wussy, isn't bruce wayne suppose to be rich playboy. maybe gel it or something, from what I have seen he looks good in equlibrim(how do you spell that)

Of note: there is actually a batsymbol. It's just the same color of the rest of the suit---only an outline, not a yellow oval. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Look extremely carefully on the crouching pic and you'll see the bottom of it, slightly, spreading across his entire chest.
http://img38.photobucket.com/albums/v118/dr.dude/batsymbol.jpg
As far as it being too dark: isn't that a good thing? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Batman should be in the shadows and hidden most of the time, and it's clear that that's possible now unlike it was with the shiny Shumacher costumes.
Anyway, on another note---the costume rocks! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif I love the bigger, more bat-like cape and gauntlets...but my favorite part has got to be the terrific cowl. And Bale's face looks absolutely perfect in it. Batman has begun! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Haha. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It's a completely different shape and size than the previous ones---it covers his entire chest. The bat's "tail" is right in the center of his chest, visible from the left side more than the right. Emphasized in this edited pic: http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Question: Should there be scenes where his cape is CGI? The Schumacher movies did it. :spawn:

On this particular day, Bale has been in the Batsuit for nine hours, and his brain is starting to boil. But he keeps up his good humor. After one take, Nolan instructs him to try a line again with more intensity, and Bale answers with a riff inspired by "This Is Spinal Tap": "How much more Batman can you get? The answer is: none. None more Batman."
Consider me cured. I used to be unable to stand Christian Bale. That line was funny as hell.
