Sad to see it go though.

I just realised all the hosted sites are gone as well.

Woah. That's a real big bummer.

I hope they can find a new home at the other existing MP communities.

This is really too bad. MPHQ boasted quite a big following on their forums and hosted sites so this is quite a big loss for us all. We have also lost the single biggest MP mod library out there and that's very sad.

MPHQ has been a vital backbone for the community over the last 18 months and its demise does nothing but weaken the community.

It was a great run though, and everybody out there appreciates that gutbomb. MPHQ could have gone down with Infrared way back but you kept it there. Thanks for that.

I loved Max Payne Headquarters. I loved the site design images/icons/smile.gif . Every time I felt bored I came there to try out a new Max Payne mod.

Currently, I am working on a new MP site. I would like it to host/link to as many Max Payne MOD's as possible. Obviously I need permission to host/link by the owner of the MOD. Can anyone help me out here?

I would like to trail along in GutBomb's footsteps and keep rockin' the Max Payne community. I just havent had the chance to yet. Can you provide my site any support guys/girls? Thanks in advance images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry about the 'advertising', but I would like to be the webmaster of a large community images/icons/smile.gif .

EDIT: Sorry, I have a habit of putting too many smilies.

I realised I forgot to add this in my previous posts:

GutBomb you did a terrific job with MPHQ, I know how hard it is to run a very popular site and even keep it up running.

You should be proud of what MPHQ turned into and I am sad to see it shut down.

I hope you stick with the MP community though images/icons/smile.gif

No backup? No local copy? You run servers worse than my firm images/icons/wink.gif Sad though Gutty. Now that the community is finally united and somewhat friendly images/icons/smile.gif

Akari: erm, why would he get another URL, it's the data that's lost. The downloads are still at FileFront, read MPHQ frontpage.

Well... looks like this is really it. At first I thought it was a joke (Gut's been known to have his fair share of jokes in the past images/icons/smile.gif ), but now it seems like this is really the end. Things are looking grim for the Max Payne scene right now, with a large portion of hosted TC sites and some very active forums wiped out, not to mention that MPHQ was pretty much the hub of much of the Max Payne community.

Hopefully the new arrival of Max Payne 2 will spark some great interest in the other partner Max Payne fan-sites such as Deep Six or Payne Reactor.

I fear Deep Six and Payne Reactor have nowhere near the amount of visitors MPHQ had. Much because of the good coverage around MP1, downloads and a much better name/domain for search engines images/icons/smile.gif

I guess we'll try though.

I guess we'll try though. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">That we will Mr. Hollund, that we will. Though things will just not be the same if the whole English Max Payne scene has to rely on our collective shoulders and these boards. MPHQ served a vital role and we need to get it back. That's why I am doing my best to help out a group of MPHQ staffers to get their site back up again....

Only Deep Six is our only hope...

That sucks about all the sites contents. That's gotta suck to see all your hard work (web graphics ect) gone.

But I think what people really want to know is what was the verdict on the last poll! images/icons/tongue.gif

Sad as I am to see one of the longest standing fansites to go, I'll have to believe that there will be other sites, and MPHQ will be a memory soon.

Certainly, the prominent sites of Deep Six and Paynereactor have a potential for greater audiences.

But I would not be surprised if smaller and perhaps totally new fan sites were to rise from the ashes. How was it that somebody put it - nature hates vacuum.

Anyway, thanks to Gutbomb (and crew) for holding up the fort!

Ah, mphq, what a place. I remember when things where getting started with the mod scene, and the tiny (some might say microscopic) percentage of people who were actually producing new content were totally at a loss for distribution. Qender had these levels he had made that we couldn't play. If I remember correctly he ended up having to physically mail a cd to Joe3dr who uploaded it to fileplanet for him.

It was one of those great shocks to discover that the infrastructure for mod distribution that a game like Half-life possesses doesn't come overnight, and that somebody has got to pay for bandwith.

I think the lessoned to be learned is that the max payne community (at least for the first game) is not large enough to be scooped up by a big corporation who will handle the logistics of mod uploads and downloads for us. Fans really have to get their shit together and make it happen.

Max Payne Headquarters was the mod site we needed and it's a shame that it got vaporized right as the mod scene was really starting to heat up.

I think that the only Max Payne mod community about to go big is the MP2 community. I doubt the people who are into it enough to be modding will stay on the first game. I also think the same thing will happen to Half-Life.

And it is a much better system than people give it credit for.

If DeepSix provided a more extensive mod database it would be the perfect site. Except that it's hosted by GameSpy.

Except that it's hosted by GameSpy.

So what do you mean by that? We are pretty proud of our GameSpy roots. GameSpy allows us to access to a great deal of resources we would have a hard time working without -- we wouldn't be able to host mods, files and maybe even be ad-free if it wasn't for them -- and that's just to mention a few of the advantages. Deep Six wouldn't be much if it wasn't for GameSpy. Really.

And as for not having much of a downloads database, you are certainly right. That hasn't been happenning simply because of lack of personnel. Maybe in the future we will be able to do a better job in this regard. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The return is being handled by pcverden and is to be called Max Payne Source.

We are being hosted by TGNetwork who strangely enough were the one time hosts of MPHQ. Forums should be up fairly soon and the site in full will follow asap.
