as some of you may already know I started a project a while ago. We have been hard at work with this TC and the dev team consists of a lot of talented people with whom I enjoy working with a lot.
Anyways I promised I would put up screenshots next time I posted about it and I am keeping that promise. Also you will probably notice we gave the TC a name... We will leave most of the other details undisclosed until we feel we should release them. This is a big project, I think the community will enjoy the end result a lot.

The Model me and aztec worked up, it was my idea... ghast was working on the level but I pushed him aside and was just like "Bizchatas! OK lets do this! Get Krunkin OKKK!" and whipped that shivizl out. The storyline is as is:
PS- I wrote it
Civil Unrest will shed the mission structure of its illustrious predecessors, instead opting for Half-Life style mini-loads between areas. This should help keep the tension high and ensure the minimum of relaxation for the player. It has been confirmed that many of the weapons from the previous games will make it into the release, including the all important BFG, although other favorites like the chainsaw have yet to be implemented. Some information has also been released about environment interaction within the game. Id have given some details as to how the player interacts with in-game computer consoles - upon approach, the player automatically holsters his weapon, and the mouse cursor appears. The console can then be operated in the same way as any html browser, and character movement away from the console immediately equips the last weapon used, should the player be ambushed. Few other details of environment interaction have been revealed, but it's very reassuring to hear of this well designed system, and it augers well for other interactive elements.
An Id game would not be an Id game without multiplayer, and so it came as a great surprise to many when Carmack announced that Doom 3 would be a single-player experience only. This, however, has been altered. Civil Unrest will now ship with limited multiplayer capabilities for 2-4 players, with deathmatch and last man standing confirmed. It has also been rumored that Id will augment the games multiplayer capabilities in an expansion.
The release of Civil Unrest will likely be another seminal moment in the history of gaming, and the little company from Texas will once again be making its presence felt all across the industry. A major Id release constitutes a technological boundary point - everything before is old and limited, everything after advanced and full of promise. And part of the excitement of a new Id release is not only seeing what they can achieve themselves, formidable as they are. Thanks to Carmack's single-minded dedication, we can also look forward to the efforts of a plethora of professional developers on the engine, and the growing sophistication of the Mod community will no doubt mean some incredible efforts from them. The shadows of Civil Unrest should ensure that the future remains bright.

Ok people I have some requests from the community.
I have opened up certain positions for the TC, if you feel like you could help with any of these I'd be happy to discuss it with you. We need the following people:
- A reliable modeler or animator (or both)
- A good voice actor to play the role of the main character. (more info about him after you contact me)
- Voice actors for NPC's. (info on contact)
- Mappers are of course always welcomed with open arms.
- A sound effects specialist who can produce a variety of sounds with some decent equipment. Or simply anyone good at making sound effects and creepy noises.
That's all folks, I really need some people to fill these positions so if you think you qualify for any of them please contact me by PM or email. If deemed good enough you will be given a position on the team.

not sure, there seems to be many versions of SW99 with different lookins slides and grips + different accesories like tactical flash or laser, but the version I used as refence has that kind of grip, unless reference photo was deformed.

The grip is definately a touch short for the full SW99...like, it should have one more finger indentation longer....but i guess it doesnt affect it too much, and the rest of the model is so well done.

Whats New?
Lots of blood and scary stuff. New ideas and things in no other mod ive seen yet in Max Payne 2. Me bitching and moaning as always... that isn't that new.
Im contemplating posting a tutorial on the interface work ive been doing so the rest of the community can play around with it... ::shrug ::
Anything more Rico has asked us to shut are collective mouth about. But im sure you guys are going to be impressed.
I guess the secret's out eh? You guys may or may have not heard about some of the features we'll be implementing into Civil Unrest (most already are) so here's a brief summary without many details on what's public so far:
- The mod will be released by chapters (meaning you'll have something to look forward to after the first release). We will add new features as the chapters progress and maybe even new characters. It will be like playing a new mod every release with different features and a consistent plotline set in the same universe.
- Yes it's out. I have worked out how to add dismemberment into the MP2 engine and it will be included and fully supported as soon as it's perfect (most likely first release as most of the work is tried and tested).
- Gibbing will also be present, many of you have seen the earlier videos of my system. I will be using something very much like it.
- Various and original weapons with different gameplay purposes. One of the simpler additions to gameplay will come from the "boomstick" which allows you to knock down enemies if they are close enough. Gone are the days when you would chuck out your shotgun when you got a big bad assault rifle, now the shotgun is actually effective and I'm sure all of you will have a blast using it. Of course, the effect diminishes with range so don't expect to be able to knock someone down if you shoot them from 1 km away.
- Enhanced UI by code_warrior. You have seen only our earliest hud work... Screenshots will be shown when deemed viable.
- Moody maps created by some of the best mappers in the community: We'll post some screenshots when we think the time is right.
- Original plot with an interesting universe to explore.
Of course, we will also have all new models and skins, as well as animations for these new models. When this is released you won't be able to recognize a single thing from MP2.

BTW Rico is this dismemberment for zombies only or for normal people aswell?
I thought you could make an character with textures of differen types, like 'zone 1', 'zone 2' etc. And attach skinitems of limbs to that. Now when you animate the character it will seem like it's a normal skeleton.
Now when you hit that character on a certain texture zone, like his rightarm, you detect the specific hit with a decal or particle. And in the properties of the decal you detach the skinitem and drop it like a levelitem or projectile.
It's just a wild guess, but I hope you could confirm it..it's actually one of the most challenging things I could think of so far for mp2. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dopefish.gif nice thinkin.
Dismemberment will be present in many enemies. Different enemies will dismember differently, for some heads will come off, others will lose bit and pieces of their body, etc. Each enemy can have up to 2 or 3 different parts that are dismemberable in their bodies. So for example you may have an enemy that can have his head taken off, his right arm, and his leg.
I'm still not sure if I want it so you can dismember ALL of those parts on a single death but we'll see.

rico, in another thread i saw that you said that you will be releasing the code for the dismemberment effects to certain people before civil unrest is released. by any chance am i one of those people? i thought you had said that you will be helping me with this effect for my Samurai X TC. i hope that's what you meant.

Yes, it was possible for me to have enemies walking around with missing limbs, however I'm not sure if I want to use that as of yet.

gibbing is when a person completely blows up with blood and chunks everywhere. very cool for zombie mods

It looks really great! But I think it needs a little touch in the physics. I mean, the gibs could fly in the opposite direction of the grenade, so that it doesn't seems that the cleaner exploded from the inside.
But who am I to talk. I can't even add textures! The gibs are really cool and I can't wait to see it in action with some zombies around!

Hehe hud has advanced a lot since that screenshot but I'll see what I can do. We're trying to keep a lid on releasing media until we have some awesome content in the 90% finished stage(expect videos).
On a sad note(for the mod team) Code_Warrior has left us in order to pursue his dreams as a game designer. He and I talked a lot about our hopes for the future and I'm glad he managed to make it happen. He is now part of a game development company who's making an FPS/MMO hybrid. He's part of their art team so I expect to hear some more info about what he's doing sometime in the near future.

Yeah we have got some great talent here.
ADM - I've managed to get online on 56k satellite but I can't open most webpages. No gamespy websites open and most fansites don't either. I'm afraid I won't be able to post news again until this weekend. (DSL is due back that day)

I think Deep Six is offline anyway, well I can't seem to access it since all I get is the offline screen (Mambo logo with the words "Deep Six" in text), I don't know if it's just me but I've contacted Wabbit.
So yeah don't worry just try your best to get everything sorted on your end Rico.

hey Rico,i just played the 6 shots mod which is really sweet, and i definetly think you should tweak the ragdoll physics in your mod, which by the way sounds kick ass. I really enjoyed how each person reacted so greatly to the bulltets, it was tons of fun shooting people 9 times in the chest with duel desert eagles and watching them fly backwards.
i also felt that the guns were not strong enough in max payne 2, like when you shoot a guy close range with a shot gun he just fell backwards. i dont' care if thats realistic or not, but its way more fun to send him flying 7 feet back like in rezzies mod.
so i hope you consider tweaking the power of the guns and/or the ragdoll physics in your mod unless you already have.

- Yes it's out. I have worked out how to add dismemberment into the MP2 engine and it will be included and fully supported as soon as it's perfect (most likely first release as most of the work is tried and tested).
now the only question is do the dismembered parts ragdoll?

It isn't called Ragdoll if it isn't a character with havok enabled.
The dismembered body parts will probably have havok, because it's extrememly easy to put it on the parts.
We'll see if the parts "ragdoll" on drop. I doubt we'll implement it seeing as we would have to build a new skeleton for each individual part. I'll talk to Aztec about the possibility.
Body parts are affected by havok physics, just like any other projectile would.

Hmm, well, work is going slow right now... everyone on the team is working on different projects and I'm basically just letting them go on with them until they are done and feel like they want to come back. Pretty much at a standstill but that doesn't mean the mod is dead, it just means we're working on other stuff at the moment.
Believe me when I say this: This mod will have some sort of fruition. Whether it's a full-blown TC release or a small beta release is of no matter, just be happy to know that I personally won't stop working on this until I have some sort of finished product you can all enjoy.
That being said, I fired up ye good ol' early-early development alpha build I had from when I last worked on it and recorded some videos of dismemberment in action... Does anyone want to see them?
I'll probably need hosting for them, rather small videoclips just showing the basics of it really, one of them is 1MB in size, the other is around 3.5 MB.

Hmm well that was fairly quick to get hosted, many thanks to ADM for the help on that.
A few things you should know beforehand though:
1) This is an early early alpha, stuff will look unfinished and weird because it is, as simple as that, nothing you see on the video is 100% finished.
2) The models are all placeholder "dummy" models made to test out changes, those are made by Aztec for testing.
3) The map is made by Uisor and it's not finished at all either, for one, lighting hasn't been applied to it. There are many other things incomplete to don't pay much attention to it just yet.

On another note, we could use more mappers to work whit us. I think Rico told when we started that all mappers are welcome, so you don't need 3 years of experience to join the team.

It worked fine when I tried it. That was after Sentinel's post.
Seems to be working fine for me.
Maybe it was just a glitch on the server, so give it a try now. If it still has problems it's probably loading from your cache, so try clearing your cache before trying to download.

... so is it a bug in the gibbing system when the those "blood spheres" start bursting on the ground?
Not really, that's just the blood trail settling into the ground. After the gibs are there a while they stop emanating it. Why?
Does anyone else have any comments or suggestions?

well, i would rather more of a ragdoll death than the animation...just a little animation to start it. It seemed like they always died the same way. And the blood gibs were a little too dark and big, so they looked like potatoes
It does have ragdoll death, it's exactly how you described, an animation plays out for a bit then ragdoll takes over.
Bear in mind that those aren't even new animations, I had to reuse some MP2 anims cleverly.
As for the gibs, suggestion noted, I know, those aren't the final ones, they're actually being reused from the gibbing system. I don't have any head gibs yet.
I'll probably also be adding so that the chunks blow back as they should instead of just kind of falling to the ground.

what I meant is the anim is too long...it seems like the characters dont ragdoll utill their head is a foot from the ground...maybe the fact that it was in slow motion made it look a little worse.
Somebody asked me what it is I did in modding, the best response I could give them was to bumb this thread so they could see it themselves.
And yeah torso_boy, it's a combination of slow-motion and the animation that makes it look always the same. The animation is just placeholder as the final hasn't been made yet, as well as the little chunks that come out of the explosion.

Just thought I'd update the thread to say that both ADW and CU have merged together.

Thats right, no I'm not joking...Civil Unrest (created by Rico) and A Different World (created by theki11erwithin), the 2 zombie mods of mp2 have merged and is currently under development.
I know some of you have to either be thinking "woW this is great" or maybe a select few of you think "eh, I don't think its such a good idea". Well I (being the "other" modder for ADW) can tell you that you should expect nothing less of the mods, only more.
The Decision was made a few days ago while me and Rico were discussing both mods, and the features in each. I then forwarded Rico's request to theki11erwithin and now we are fully merged, and ironing out the details.
All I can tell you at the moment is that we are keeping the name Civil Unrest, and we are keeping Civil Unrest's story. I have no clue on a release date, but when it does release...you will most indefinitely know it.

I've been working on animations ever since I got 3dsmax. Mod's not dead, I don't simply abandon projects. It will come out. We're highly secretive of our work in this project.

I played some early stuff Rico was doing with Civil Unrest, frankly I think it was much better than the Equillibram (I cant spell it dammit) mod. not that the E mod didnt knock my socks off, its just so much MORE could have been done with Civil Unrest.
I feel bad for Max Payne 2, I saw it for 7 dollars at Wal mart.

Rico hasn't released an Equilibrium mod. You must be thinking of that Rico Mod that he released a long time ago. The only reason that mod was kinda crappy was because the bones had not yet been released at that time. So Rico couldn't add any animations of his own. Oh sorry I thought the Hall of Mirrors Equilibrium Mod was released. I've played just about every version that mod (and crashed Rico's PC dozens of times :-) )
From what I understand its done, Rico is just waiting for his team members to send him some stuff and I think he wanted to add in some Easter Eggs.
Frankly I'm pissed I didnt get a credit in the mod. I tested lots of stuff, gave ideas, and drove David to many a fast food joint for late night gaming.
