I'm trying to make a level completely as a trimesh and it's working for the most part, but I can't add portals or have more than one texture.

I've imported the mesh into MaxEd as several groups and I want each group to have a different texture, but I can only change the default texture which is assigned to all of them.

Portals simply won't work on the trimesh so the only way I've gotten it working in-game is by having a regular mesh with a portal floating around away from the trimesh.

Has anyone else even tried to do this?

I don't think a trimesh structure is going to pack up too neatly and will probably be a really big file. My only experience was a simple trimesh cone that added about 7 mb to a small room when it was copied and pasted a umber of times, but as a prefab was much smaller. Doesn't sound like what you are attempting involves trimesh prefabs though?

Simply put, don't make a level out of a trimesh, since they don't even receive shadowmaps. Use em to for complex meshes.
