Might be ask before but ...

... is there a converter out to bring the Build-Engine maps to Quake1/2/3 or Unreal (Tournament)?

If not, this should be done by someone, because it would be easier to create mods with old Duke3d-maps when DNF is finally out.

Not gonna happen.

The construction of the maps is totally different. Simple maps might work, where you just replace a sector with a polygon but what about warped sectors? Or stretch sectors?

Lighting wouldn't work because Duke 3D uses shaded textures to simulate light sources.

Yeah you are right, but we don't need those things. Being able to convert the map without lights, actors, sprites would be enough. I only would like to see the plain geometric construction and textures converted. Of course you would first have to edit the map in build for removing shadow-sectors. But i think this would help a lot with converting the old duke levels for creating mods for UT/DNF or Quake.

Damn if I only would be able to code such thing.

Seeing as the only people in the Duke community with sufficient knowledge of the map structure and coding to produce such a converter don't wnat to I would suggest if you REALLY NEED such a pointless program to DIY.
Otherwise do it by HAND FFS.

3DR owns the copyrights to all the level layouts, remaking a level is illegal.

Why ?

That is simply pointless and stupid, the Build engine does not support close to what Unreal can do.

That would only make the true power of both the Unreal engine and Duke Nukem Forever look bad.

A few level conversions, like Hollywood Holocost and Red Light District...among a few other places would be nice to see in FULL 3D and not 2.75D that the Build engine provided.

If anything, these levels should be REMADE and not converted to the new Duke Nukem Forever game.

I am sure whoever made Hollywood Holocost wanted to do more with the map. I often find me self angry that I cannot add a room, or a sector in a certain spot. Then there is the fact the Build engine can be taken to it's mear limits very easily.

These levels should be remade, and not converted.

Could both do more, and make improvements over the past version of the map http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

No there isn't, and I doubt there will be, either.

If your "TC" or map wants to be quality, don't take shortcuts like this - do it from scratch.
