okay, I'm no newbie in max, just so you know, but i have annoying issues:

In Max 5.1, my mouse wont work properly, you know, suppose to rotate the viewport with alt+middle mouse, etc.
even if the correct tabs are checked in the viewport->mouse settings.

in max 6, however, my mouse works great, but of course, the plugins don't. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

is there anyone that can help, mouse problem, or converting plugins to max 6 in some way?

To answer your question:

No.

... but try reinstalling 3Ds Studio Max 5.1 SP1 and the mouse's drivers if that would help.

Well, head to www.logitech.com (http://www.logitech.com) and get the latest drivers. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

still doesnt fix it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
btw, i use middle mouse as secondary fire ingame, but it fails to work all the time. sometimes its just another primary fire button.

Something similar used to happen with me earlier too. Try changing the middle click settings in ur Logitech configuration from ***** to "middle click". ---------pretty silly , but it cd work.

i'm quite sure it's the stupid, fu**ed up logitech driver. bought this mx700 for way too many bucks which got these 7 or more confortable extra buttons. however, with logitech mouseware installed my middle mouse button wouldn't work in maxed. so now i'm using the standart ms mousedriver which makes the middle mouse button work just fine, only do i have 5 useless extra buttons that won't work anymore.

@eLTo: did you get it working according to sayantan's instructions?

@ Hunted :
Actually I think the problem is not with the Logitech or with its drivers. Its just a side effect of the features we like to use in a 3-butt mouse.
For example in case of me :-
I used a 3-butt Logitech mouse and the middle mouse button was assigned as "Double Click" which made me feel relaxed while browsing the Computer coz being lazy is indeed comfortable. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Then I used to feel real shitty while using the viewport navigation in 3dsmax n Maya. Maya though didn't give me that much pain unlike 3dsmax, whose vport navigation control was getting on my nerves.Ppl who have played old NES console system knows that there was a key in it which used to simulate the tapping of a single key. But u didn't have to tap it manually. Its just another key that u have to keep on pressing to have the tapping effect of that key. But suppose u have a power(in-game) which increases by pressing and holding the "B" key and if u keep on pressing the key which simulates the constant tapping, it just wdn't work out that way. The same problem comes with this Logitech mouse. So try not utilizing the middle click button with some lazy thing like I did.
@ Secondary Remedy:(if the above doesn't work out)
1> Try uninstalling the Logitech driver first. 2> Restart 3> Next time it boots it might ask you about a new hardware found. 4> It tells you to install the driver for that mouse 5> Put ur Windows XP cd in ur CD-ROM drive(assuming that u have Windows XP) 6> Try auto searching for the best compatible driver of the mouse in the XP cd. It probably wd find one. 7> Install it.
I donno bout the 4th n 5th butt(coz I never used it) but the middle butt might be fixed either by the way I said previously to Elto or the above way. If it doesn't, HATS OFF TO LOGITECH for making the buggiest mouse or driver I should say. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

thanks for the hints. i'm aware of those special functions, like double-click, but i specificely set it to something called 'middle mouse button' so it wouldn't have any other function. back then that wouldn't work.
might try your second version some other time, but i'm not sure if i can be arsed to do so. basically it's just maxed which keeps me from installing the regular driver. and i think i'll be done with maxed forever some time in the not so distant future. but enough of my worries for now. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
