View Full Version : Corrupted build program?

I have the registered version of Duke Nukem 3D installed on my computer, and pulled Build from the CD to the hard drive. It works perfectly fine until I try to enter 3D mode. When I do, the sectors, sprites, etc. don't show up or are corrupted, and the cursor does not redraw correctly. I was wondering if someone could send me a version of their Build program? Thanks.

Haven't had this question for ahwile. www.dukeworld.com/jsbuild (http://www.dukeworld.com/jsbuild) has a section of the CORRECT setup of Build.

Thanks for your quick reply! BTW, I was looking on Ken Silverman's site, and he had this question on his FAQ. The answer to it made him sound pretty irritated, and the answer was to "read the text files that come with the game and stop asking this!" What did he mean by that?

He means, that sooner or later everybody who changes to 3d-mode the first has to ask this question.

Short answer is: Build.exe and the game's datafiles have to be in the same directory.
But I think, that you should read this yourself as I didn't use Build for quite some time now.

Hope this helps!

OH! I had no idea! I just put the Build files in a folder called "Build" in the Duke3D directory! Thanks!

If you had read the instructions as said on Ken's site, and read the Build installation instructions, you would have seen the clear notice to put the Build files in the same directory as Duke.

Quite why this is not enough to stop this question being asked has always mystified me.

Before you ask, install kextract, use kextract duke3d.grp *.art, then run editart.

Well, Build is working like a charm. I have one little question before I start, though: How do I load custom-made levels in Duke Nukem 3D?

Through setup would be the hassle free option and not require the scary use of DOS command lines.

Here's some more questions to rack your brains with:

* How do I use the Sector Effector?
* How do I set Hitag and Lotag?

I'll probably come up with more later. Ciao!

Rather than answer those questions I will direct you to a few resources where people have spent a vast amount of time answering these questions. www.dukeworld.com/jsbuild (http://www.dukeworld.com/jsbuild)

I finished my first level!!! It's called Monster Arena, and it's at http://www.acadiacom.net/rafoster/dn3d/monarena.zip I was wondering, although this is probably frowned upon in here, if you guys could look at it and give me any tips? BTW, I listed the two people who responded in the level description text file. Thanks!

Excellent first map joshua_70448.

First maps are always a headache. Like a fool I spend almost 3 months on mine. Ran out of sectors in the end http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

I liked the outside area and the spawning ememys all over the place. Quite a bit of detail, and you managed to pull off a few of the harder map effects too. Well done.

My advice, don't stop there. http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif
