I've seen topics on this before, but they're really old. And I don't want to bump 'em http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, I know the first part of the song -- C Eb F G C^ G Bb G B -- I can't seem to get past that part, I really want ot play the theme http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Any help is appreciated.

There's no need to bump an older topic if you just READ it. There's one with the notes for the full theme posted. Just search and read.

No, I mean that I wanted to ask a question because I can't get past a certain part -- So I'd either have to bump it or make a new topic (like I'm doing now).

How can you not get past a certain part if you've read the post with the full notes?

Or are you saying that you don't possess the skill required to play the theme so it sounds right, even though you know all the correct notes? Because if that's what you mean, I'm afraid no-one can help you. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Does anyone have a guitar tab for the MP1 or MP2 theme songs? If so, could they please post it.

j

Well.. I know how to play the piano part on the guitar, but I've never tried the guitar part (not that the guitar part is really very hard or anything, it's quite simple really).

But if it's the piano part you want to play, just follow the notes for it. Simple, eh? No need for tabs.

READ CAREFULLY.

Someone asked the same question, 3 months ago, so I dug this up for you.

Hey - Big Music Buff here,

The Notes are: (Flats are represented by small b's and Sharps as #.... - C is middle C - C' is an octave up, C, is an octave below.)

C Eb F G C' G Bb G Eb B, Ab, G, D G, D Eb, (Repeat with a B, at the beginning)

F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, Eb D F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, D, Eb, F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, Eb D F, F, G, Ab, D C B, A, B, (Then repeat everything an octave higher and then end on the C)

Any other problems just e-mail. (I do this stuff all the time. I even do ringtones for Uni Students. - Sadly enough http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif)

Peter J

These notes are right. I'm sure of it and double checked. They're definately right.

Quote: Nessus

Are you sure you've got that right, piano_man?

F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, Eb D F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, D, Eb, F, F, G, Ab, D B, G, Eb D F, F, G, Ab, D C B, A, B,

I bolded out the extra in what you wrote for when that part plays for the first time.

The theme goes:
Part 1
Part 1
Part 2
Part 1
other stuff (mostly strings and guitar)
piano_man's second part
Part 1

Simon Charles

From the original thread (real easy to find; just punch in "theme" in the search option).

It's in C minor. Just follow the theme. C, E flat, F, G, higher C, and then go down again G, B flat, G, E flat, and B. That should get you started on the first 3 seconds.

A flat, G, D, G, D, E flat, B, C, E flat, F, G, and it picks up again from the high C. The rest are just variations on that theme.

Bonus: Max Theme cellphone ringtone (http://www.geocities.com/simon_sorcerer/maxmidi.html)

Sorry, you may be right. I haven't heard the piece in over a year, but I think the first time it plays, it doesn;'t have those bolded notes. The second time however when that part comes back, then it has those notes.

PS, the ringtone isn't completely right. There are a few wrong notes and the Low Bass notes are way off. You might need to fix them simon.

I could do the complete Theme song soon if you want, guitar and all. I can't do it now however, as I have exams, but when they're done, I can do it properly.

It's been ages since I did that thing. Now that I listen to it with a fresh ear, you're right. I hear one wrong note in the beginning, but not "a few". As for the bass, I don't hear any bad notes. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hmm... you almost make me want to reinstall my midi composer and crack this one open again!

--==EDIT==--

Okay, I see what you mean. I just broke off my file at the second part instead of finishing it with a C. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif They're not way off, I just used major chords instead of minors.

Fixing it now...

--==EDIT==--

Fixed! Put it up on my music page (http://www.geocities.com/sorcerermusic/index.html). Thanks for the correction! I feel so stupid for letting such obvious mistakes slip. (minor chord, Simon, MINOR! That means G tone, not B flat!)

Here's something to chew on, just something small.

Done some of the Max Payne Midi, needs a bit more work, and that will come soon. Just tell me what you think so far.

Very nice although it does something very wierd at around 56s.

Piano Man

SOrry, about that, didn't realise that. I must have accidently added a glissando without realising it.

I'll have the proper thing done maybe in the next week. (Sorry, but exams are on.)

I'll probably do the same for the Max Payne 2 Theme as well as late Goodbye. GIves me a challenge.

So far, I've worked on it for almost an hour. I have a bit more instrumentation and tried to make it sounds as close to the original as I can (with my incredibly crap Sound card. )

I'll do bits of it while I can get to it. Hopefully it will turn out great, I just wish I know the complete instrumentation from Remedy or 3DRealms or from somebody.

God, I can't seem to get the attachment thing right any time, but here it is. In Midi Format. Sorry about that guys, and I'd probably ignore the first attachment. This one is the best so far.

Stilol working on it.

Simon Charles
06-14-2004, 11:13 PM
Is there something wrong with the file? It's twice as long as it should be, and the last half of it is silent. Anyway, sounds good so far, except that the strings completely drown the piano. You can't hear anything. Overall, there's virtually no volume gain. I had to crank up everything to maximum, (midi, master volume and speakers) to hear something. And even that wasn't much. But as far as the actual song goes, great! I don't think I heard one wrong note.

Keep it up. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

MIDI file sounds OK, the piano is excellent, but, some chords don't really sound right. Good job on piano. Personally I think that the other instruments only roughly match with the piano.

It's a pretty good job with MIDI file overall.

Sorry, right after my post I figured the problem out http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I can play the whole thing now, but y'know in the real theme -- What about the break where it's all the instruments? Is there a left hand to this?

Piano Man
06-15-2004, 06:17 PM
In the middle, it's just the instruments and the piano doesn't play for a while.

I'm trying to write out the piece exactly as it is instrumently.

Quick question, is it worth me doing this Max Payne Theme, I'm just wondering if people still want it, it just seems like nobody cares?

Any feedback on the Late Goodbye Piano Theme notes? Anyone like it or hate it?

I would love a full MP midi theme.

Also the Late Goodbye midi is ok but it sounds very different to the actual proper track for some reason.

I mean are there any left hand notes during the piano sequences? Thats because I only did the part played by the cleaner in the Upper east side level in the hotel apartments. I'll do a proper one in the next couple of days. Ahem... *my* midi ringtone. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif And by "more professionnal", you mean more arrangements, with strings and stuff? In that case, I personnally can't help you. I wrote the left hand by ear and even that proved too much. It had mistakes. So you'll have to figure out the strings on your own, or ask Piano Man.

First of all, my name is Edis http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (Not my real name, of course).

And yes, I just want a 'piano reduction' of the piece. Is it possible for you to make it simple (which means, don't make it a level 8 piece which I can't play)?

Piano Man
06-24-2004, 08:09 AM
When I finish the instrumental version, it will be easier to make a Piano Reduction from that, so you might have to wait a bit longer, but also, what level are you - just so I know, it's just if you ask me to do a real easy piano version and someone else wants me to do a Damn hard version, it's going to be (sorry to say) annoying doing two versions.

If any one wants a Piano Version, tell me what grade you are or how long you've been playing, so I get the vast majority.

PS Sorry about getting your name wrong... I'm hopeliss with seplling http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is the instrumental version of Max Payne Done and Finished.

If I have time tomorrow, then I will convert it into straight Piano music. My next challenge is the Late Goodbye piece by Poets of the Fall. That one should be easier.

If anyone actually has Sibelius 3, then I can e-mail them the original (Instrumental) music as it should be written.

THE MUSIC TOO! *fist*

Anyway, I finally played it. EXCELLENT WORK, Piano Man! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
I really enjoyed it and now I'm actually beginning to learn it. It sounds like the original, except that the b-chord (after c) sounds a bit weird to me, somehow. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Piano Man
07-10-2004, 11:08 PM
I know it sounds weird, but that's definately supposed to happen. If you listen to the original MP3 of Max Payne you can just hear the suspension as the B leads to the C (then the Eb F G C' yada yada yada)

Glad you like it Joonas. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope everyone else who downloaded it enjoys it just the same.

Joonas
07-11-2004, 06:13 AM
Another thing I didn't get was what was assigned to left hand to play in the B-part. (Not the f chord, but the completely different.) I don't remember hearing that in the theme... or was that there just to replace drums and stuff?

Piano Man
07-11-2004, 09:31 PM
It was to replace the strings, if you listen to the MP3, you can hear in the background the strings playing something. Thats the bit where you play (Ab G C D Eb (rest) Ab G C D Eb) in the left hand isn't it? Listen to the MP3 and you should hear it in the background.

One thing you could "substitute", Piano Man, is the heart beat sound... an added push of the left hand's chord at the right moment... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Piano Man
07-13-2004, 10:25 PM
It's just hard to make the sound of the heart beat as it is supposed to be an un-pitched sound, plus it's hard for all those people who might not be as good at Piano as the others.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to make a v1.1. I go back to uni in a couple of days and unfortunately don't have time. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Put some sort of amplication[sp?] on your piano so the sound is hella big and tell everyone to not breath and press record.

BTW if anybody bothers about the chord progressions of the original MP theme, it is:-

Cm/ - / - / -
Gm/ - /F/ - ... and it loops.

The second part :-

F/ - /Gm/ -
F/ - /Gm/ - .... back to Original part.

I am so sorry Joonas. I can't believe I missed that, when you said error I thought you meant a wrong note error, not rhythm. I apoligise.

The correct version is as follows. I double checked it 2 mins ago with the MP3, and this version is completely right. Rhythm and all.

1 - 3DRealms thing is changed to Remedy

2 - Use of the pedal, you play the Semibreves (whole notes) and hold them in the pedal

3 - The filesize only dropped 5k, it's not that much. God knows, why it is a different size.

Though, the overlapping notes are still there.

See the tenth bar from the end. Left hand playes the same C as does right. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ooops, yeah, I didn't see that. I don't mind taking them out if you really want me to, I was just suggesting that you can play the notes with either hand, If you can't reach an octave in the Right, then you could play them with the Left.

Anyway's I'm really glad you like it. Just curious, I noticed that 7 people have downloaded it already (You being one of them). I'd just like to see what the other 6 people thought of it. I'd really like some feedback. Just for curiosity Sake.

Not bad for a 19 year old with too much time on his hands.

Just saying you that placing the same note for both hands is... annoying. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Piano man, frankly speaking I can't read notations in the way u gave. We in our country dont learn music in that western pattern. Secondly I learnt what I learnt(bass) myself. So it could have been better if anybody here could have made a midi with ur notations. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/brickwall.gif

Well, the music has been like that for hundreds of Years, in most countries, but in Caclutta, it might actually be different.

I don't quite know how to write it in the style you use though Sayantan. Sorry about that.

Here's the midi file though, Hope it helps.

Hey, I can't believe your playing that for a school exhibition. I hope people like my rendition of the Song. THough, most of the parents probably won't know what the Max Payne Theme is. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow man. I can't believe you were so good. Maybe coz I was only seeing the notations and I dont f**king understand it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif
But there's still a small problem which is negligible though. You should have followed a metronome and later on muted it. I hope u understand what I mean. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Edit: I'm gonna make it a ring tone and share among all my friends. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I did follow a metronome. I used sibelius, and it has a metronome built in.

If you want a proper sort of version you want to make a ring tone, You might want to try using the other Midi File that I think is at the beginning of Page 2.

Thats got more instruments and sounds slightly (just slightly) better for Polyphonic Ringtones.

Joonas

I can do that with some Pieces, I can now read sight-read Grade 8 Pieces pretty well. I won't be happy though until I can sight read Beethoven Sonatas and CHopin Piano Concertos like my University Piano Teacher... She's good.

Quick Question Joonas - How many years have you been playing?

Thats pretty good. I'm glad people are still playing the piano. You don't find a lot of people do now. Pity.

What I would like to do is during the holidays at the end of the year, is to try and transcribe the Song 'Late Goodbye' for the Piano - just like I did for the Max Payne Theme.

Don't know If I'll be allowed to though, you know all that Permission crap and legal mumbo jumbo.

I'll wait to see if anyone else is interested in getting the Piano Version of Late Goodbye. See if it's worth doing.

I love doing this sort of thing... It doesn't take me that long, (I practice on classical music and try write the music without having seen the piece or played it. It's fun. Gives me a challenge.)

I just hope I don't spend my time doing this and get in trouble by Poets of the Fall or anything... I mean I am technically giving their music out for nothing if I were to do it... Thats what gets me...

Anyway, enough of my babbling and complaining. I'll see if people are interested in it.

I just got word from Take 2 - You'll be happy to hear this.

About your question: I must admit I am not really sure how the copyright stuff goes in this case, but I'd imagine that as long as you don't make any profit with it (like you said), and it's clearly indicated that the transcript is made by you and it's not an "official" one, I don't think there will be any problems.

BTW, Billy Joel's Piano Man is one of my favourite tracks of all time! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK, just an update on how 'Late Goodbye' is coming along.

I've done almost 2 mins of the song, and all I have to do left is the sort of mini coda and then the actual chorus theme is repeated about 4 or 5 times before fading out with little variations.

Tried to add the Drumming in the background, but since it is a Midi instrument, It sounded a little cheap when the volume was up, so I tuned down the drums a little. Just need to put in the Overdrive guitar that appears in the 2nd half of the song.

Overall, Hope you like it so far. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I AM SO DESPERATELY SORRY FOR THE NO SHOW...

My Brilliant (crappy GeForce 5900XT) Graphics Card - died on me 4 weeks ago... and I just got a Brand New X800 Graphics Card Put in 2 days ago... So for a while I didn't have a computer to use. I am so sorry about that, but I have been working on the Late Goodbye Piano Version. So far I have only the first page... but it is attached. Tell me that you think.

(Note that this music is a little harder than the Max Payne Theme transcription I did, so be warned. I will not make 5 or 6 copies of this for different difficulty levels. I'm sorry.)

hello. i've got a little problem - i've never played max payne, but what i really love is the theme by the poets of the fall - the late goodbye. i was trying to get the notes and i have them - but only for guitar, for the unplugged version, not the instrumental, one of the most beautiful songs of these days - and i desperately (almost http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) need them. i know u were talking about it, but i dunno in which connections, i didn't read it all. well, i'd like to ask u - do u have it or do u know where to get it?

Just before I release it to you guys... I'm just wondering how many people are interested in the sheet music for Late Goodbye???

If I don't hear anything from POTF in the next 2 or 3 days - I might just put it on the net - whether they like it or not - because I don't want to have spent all this time doing it, just to have them come back and say it sucked and they don't want it released After all - it is their song.

Way to go, Piano Man! Finally someone who is good at transcribing pieces! Most other transcripts are way to simplified, and just... plain wrong

No probs, glad you like it. I was kind of pleased with it, and I sent a copy of it to Poets of the Fall but I never got a reply. I also asked 3DRealms to transribe the music to the ORIGINAL Duke Nukem theme written by Lee Jackson I think, but I never got a reply saying it was ok to do so, so I never did.

Pity.

Piano Man, thank you very much for doing this. I have not found piano tablature on Max Payne anywhere else. I did sign up on these forums just for that as I REALLY like that game and song. However, when I saw tablature I thought of the guitar type of tablature where there isn't any music notes. I guess this couldn't work for the piano, oh well. I guess I just gotta learn to read notes again (and then forget).

Erm... there are no trills in the music. You don't mean the arpeggiated chords in the last few lines on page 2???

And yeah - the crosshands were a little uneasy, but I needed both the main theme and the accomp theme to play together. Start it slow and thing smoothly about where each hand has to go.

I'm starting to get to the arpeggiated chords myself, too. I can't wait to be able to play it smoothly.
Presumambly the hardest part is when the main theme and the accomp theme need to be played simultaneously, might take some practice.

But so far so good, thanks again. I can't stop thanking, hah. So long I was in need of this.
