View Full Version : Need Windows to install eduke?

After seeing the release I rushed to download eduke. Then, on running the downloaded program I get the error "This program cannot be run in DOS mode".
The Duke Nukem 3D help file clearly states that Windows is NOT a supported operating system for Duke, and that running it under Windows is NOT recommended.
So now 3D Realms are contradicting themselves by stopping people that don't have Windows from using eduke? Is there a solution, or a DOS-based download?

Even if you were running Windows you would probably have problems with the installer.
There is at this time no DOS-based installer, but maybe one would be a good idea.

The EDuke installer program is a Windows program and requires Windows to run.

The installer need windows.
Duke doesn't run well under Windows
The installer doesn't work on Kill-a-ton version or wallmart version.
Did anyone at 3Drealms actually tested the installer?

Probably not. And indications are that they don't give too much of a **** about the problems either.

Hey Matt...
Is 3DR planning on doing anything to solve the problems with the installer for eDuke, or do they really plan to swindle people who bought East meets West and Kill-a-ton into paying for 1.5 a second time?
Will organized complaint help to speed an eqitable solution, or just cause more problems than it is worth.
I have regular Atomic, and installed eDuke just fine, but I know a few people with Kill-a-ton who are really upset by this, and would like someone at 3DR to publicly address the issue.

I'll have to see if I can find a copy of Killaton and East/West here to attempt to deal with the issue first before attempting something.

Let me know if you can't find KillATon. I did the installers and the CD Images for GT.
