View Full Version : ACRSetup is Back! Fast and Lite!
Hello all! Long time I didn't come here!
I hope you remember ACRSetup (I closed the project last year). I know that "Dukester X" exist but remember that I was the first to build up an Internet Launcher for Windows NT/2000/XP since IC exist. My launcher is fast and lite! "acrsetup.exe" is only 140kb! Also here are some cool features:
- Auto send game options to ALL Players
- Add Players's IP easily
- Auto Start Duke Nukem when the host click on "Launch"
- You can kick users during your chat session
- Many Multi-Player and Single Player Options
- Much Much more...
Here is my web page: ACRSetup Web Site (http://acrsetup.webhop.org)
I hope you will like it! I put 3 days of full programming in visual Basic to complete this nice software (that I use to play easily with my friends).
I need some tester too! Thanks you all!

(i know this is a risky question)
might ACRSetup and DukesterX merge someday
having one great online-tool, maybe supported directly by the 2 big ports, would be great
something else:
how is LAN support?
would love to have s imple tool to play duke ports on LAN-partys
There is no problem for a LAN party! I tested ACRSetup with Rancidmeat duke3d_w32 Port on my own LAN and it runs like a charm! I'll add a file send system soon. So each time the host click on "launch" button, it will sends map automatically to ALL Players connected http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
There are no competitions between ACRSetup and DukeSterX at all... So there will not be any "fusion".
Be sure that i'm putting a lot of efforts in this tool to be the best, lite, fast, easy to use duke launcher http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very nice and useful program.. If only there are any IPs for servers..
you mean a dedicated host that use channels (rooms) to allow users to connect? Yes it's possible but I don't have a server... I can make this kind of program but I need a server! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Anyway... you can host your own game and then friends can join you!
Let's talk about IP... I'll try to find a manner to show players IP Address... much more easy to add in the IP List.
Thanks you all for the votes http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nope. You must have been banned from that IP then.. Don't ask me how :P
But if it says "connection refused" then it must actually respond to your connection, so it isn't offline.
Worked for me tho.

Sometimes, ISP block ports for security issues or it cans be a DNS problem between me and you or you are using proxy or maybe others things... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
When a person tell me that my web site isn't working, I go on this web site: Web Page Analyser (http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/)
I test my URL there... I also ask to my friends to test it (they are not with the same ISP as me).

hey, just one thing:-
I noticed acrsetup works with Rancidmeat's port. Is it also compatible with Jono-F? I haven't quite tested them yet but I'd be interested to know.
If it doesn't then you could add that feature, then the program would become *very* popular as Jono-F is currently the most popular port.

Yes http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll add it in Beta 2 (should be out in 1 day) but the multiplayer part isn't going to work see his note:
24 July 2004 - Multiplayer note.
Somewhere in the course of the last couple of releases I broke the multiplayer code. Considering it wasn't very good to start with I'm not terribly upset about it since it's going to be replaced when Ken finishes his new version, so until it's ready, multiplayer won't work. It's not worth the time trying to fix something already very terrible when it'll soon be removed anyway.

Remember: ACRSetup = fast, lite, stable http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Version 1.0.2 is out!
I worked very hard (3 long nights) to give you the best LITE and FAST Duke Launcher never ever made. It's now Super Stable.
I added a lot of new options like the "Search External/Internal IP Addresses" for players that have a LAN with routers and proxy. You can find your Internet or Local IP easily. I also added JonoF's Support with some of screen options that JonoF's handle (like colors bbp and fullscreen). I added screen Resolution support, sound/music volume and sample rate. I recoded the multi-Player Chat system.
I hope you will like it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Note: I tested ACRSetup on a big LAN and it passed all the tests (8 players launch, chat commands and send IP to all players)

I don't think actually combining the programs would do much good.
But I'm all for making them communicate. CONstruct will have a "Launch Duke" feature that automatically start up Duke3D with a specified CON. If your program takes command line arguments I'll code CONstruct to take advantage of them.
Or better still make a DLL file for your app. But I guess then it would become bloatware... lol

Just out of interest -- I get the impression your program functions by calling Duke3D.exe and appending appropriate parameters on the command line. So when you change some option or other in the user interface, is the change shown in the command text box? Or is the textbox only used for additional commands?
Also just in case there was any confusion what i was talking about is calling your application from CONstruct and providing some command-line arguments. Then your program reads the arguments, adjusts its user interface state according to them (tick/untick checkboxes, populate text boxes, etc.). Is that what you were thinking of?
here how we can do:
If Duke CONstruct launch ACRSetup with this command line: "acrsetup.exe -con:c:\duke3d\duke.con" it will auto launch the Single-Player Windows then you click on "Launch" button inside ACRSetup to start the game. It cans be something like that. I'll also add a textbox to write other duke commands...
On another subject, I noticed a little bug on version 1.0.2 when you save the game options... Rancidmeat seem to have some problem with CFG file when there is no space after the keyname in the CFG... Let me explain:
JonoF port use "ScreenBPP = x". for now, no problems but if there are no spaces between "ScreenBPP" and the "=" ("ScreenBPP= x") Rancidmeat doesn't start. So i'll fix this for version 1.0.3 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sounds good. Should come out in the next CONstruct release (whenever that is...)

Suggestion: Make ACR save your Playername, and other info.. like the last selected game type (Singleplayer, multiplayer[join]/[host])
and the IP address you typed in to JOIN.
you should also be able to BACKSPACE, CTRL+V in the IP box
About box should also show your version# of ACR

.. ACR (1.0.2)
doesn't seem to work.. me and my friend both have the duke_w32 port 19.1 (or whatever the newest is)
the window to duke_w32 pops up then disappears and nothing happens... we have the IP's set in, and ******..
Ok... I try to use ACR to run even singleplayer.. Same problem
I try to run duke3d_w32.exe directly.. Same problem
I run Setup_w32.exe, and click SAVE..
duke3d_w32.exe runs fine
I run ACR, and try to play single player.. It doesn't work
I try duke3d_w32.exe AGAIN, and it doesn't work
ACRSetup is ruining the configs somehow... so after I run ACR, it simply won't run the game correctly, or allow the game to be run without ACR, either
Secondly, you claim no bugs.. yet there are bugs, still... so I seriously don't think you should say things like that. I know you're trying, and it looks a LOT better than your previous versions of ACR.. but you still seem to be learning, at this point
if you go to Multiplayer[ Join] and just click OK, it crashes with a type mismatch
you should read what I've wrote up there...
I noticed a little bug on version 1.0.2 when you save the game options... Rancidmeat seem to have some problem with CFG file when there is no space after the keyname in the CFG... Let me explain:

I'll fix it in some hours. Also sorry if I told that ACRSetup doesn't have any bugs... There are always something to change or to correct http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks you for the info you give me. I'll make all the changes that you indicated.

fantastic idea, for transferring maps
maybe something like the host sets the custom map...
Everyone has to click a READY button, before the host can LAUNCH
when a player clicks READY, it makes sure that player has the same map (via filesize and filename)...
if not, it'll ask the person if they wanna download the map, and it throws the file into the duke directory, and sets them as "READY"
then the host can launch

Can't get ACR to work online.. Single player works great, for both me and my friend.
I'm going through a router, and i'm on cable modem
my friend is on 56k
no firewalls at all, and i'm DMZ'd on my router
simply won't connect, we have the IP's added, and we go to launch.. my game freezes at LoadTMB or something.. and i can't remember how far my friend gets.. it varies each time.. I don't know if it's ACR's fault, or a connection problem between me and him (we've had a lot, recently).. we shall try connecting to each other in a different game, to see if it'll work. Can you confirm or deny if you have gotten it to work with a similar setup we have above? It's PROBABLY not a problem with ACR, but i'm just making sure..
Secondly, a small 'bug'.. whenever you launch the game, the chat window scrolls to the top.. slightly annoying
good work

hmmmmmmm well... I tested ACRSetup with many situations (56k to 56k no firewall / Router DSL to Router Cable / Hub LAN / 2 users on a LAN + Internet router DSL) They have passed all the tests. you should completly delete your duke directory then reinstall it and goto rancidmeat and download duke3d_w32 port and downlaod ACRSetup (still a fresh install). Tell your friend to do it too. Did you try without ACRSetup to see if it works?
ACRSetup 1.0.4 is OUT!
I added File transfert feature. You can now send any files (2 gig limit per files) to a player. You can also send MAP file to ALL players in one click.
Note: Only the Host can send files. Also, only the host can stop a transfert.
It was a good challenge to code this new feature because it has to use the same port for chat and transferts. While you are sending a file, players (including host) cannot chat.
I hope you will like to new option http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

why'd you HAVE to use the same port?
why'd you HAVE to use the same port?
Here are the reasons why I decided to use only one port:
- much faster
- ACRSetup stay lite
- Using another port need to code another server and join interface so you will have to connect another time
- Dukester use this method for auto sending maps except that I added an option to send custom files
- Winsock OCX doesn't permit to use port range (I'm about 99% sure that it's not possible)
- ACRSetup isn't a file sharing application. I added this options to save time but this is not an obligation to use it
- Some routers doesn't support port range so better not using it.
ACRSetup is made to launch games easily without the need to keep playing in options for hours. But anyway, if many of you dukers need a better file sender, just tell me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The reason why I post is because ACRSetup beat download record. Over 100mb per month. I need one or two mirrors to keep my web site open.
I don't want to pay to keep it open (because this program is free). You can also give me free web host (with no pub) that give more than 100mb.
I would like to put it on my personal server but it's not always online http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
