hmmmmmm best DVD quality content
New millenium edition of night of the living dead. Hold off for new editions of Dawn and Day.
Re-animator
The Thing
Criterion Edition of Videodrome... sure it's not even out yet but damn well get it anyway!!!!
Henry Portrait of a serial Killer
Evil dead trilogy boxset (UK) you can buy seperate american editions but it'll cost alot more and doesn't have all the features. The only think lacking from UK edition are 2 features from the US Boomstick edition DVD I believe.
I think there's some remasterd Texas Chainsaw massacre DVD but I haven't seen it.

Well if you're talking about horror movies i can name a few. But if you want some awsome movies i can help you even more.
----Horror----
Night Of The Living Dead Series (No Horror Collection Is Complete Without it).
The Classic "Pin Head" movies.
The Evil Dead Series
Texas Chain Saw Massacre Collection
The First Jason Movies, They Got Softer after the first 5. So my best bet would be the first 5 maybe 7.
Nightmare On Elm Street Collection.
"1.. 2.. He's coming for you.. 3.. 4.. better lock your door.. 5.. 6.. better grab your crucifix.. 7.. 8.. Better Stay Up Late.. 9.. 10.. never sleep again!"
Note: I dont know how to spell Crucifix, i dont go to church that often and plus i just don't care about spelling.
The "Alien" series.
John Carpenter's "The Thing"
----Regular/Funny Movies----
Just becuase i'm bored, here's a few more better ones!
Out Cold
Weekend At Burnies (1 and 2)
Christmas Vacation
Starship Troopers
Spaceballs
Return Of The Living Dead (More Comedy Than Horror)
-----Movie Zone Ends-----

I watch so much horror, it's not even funny - it's hilarious. Can't be bothered to type it all down now though. Some good ones have already been mentioned ... I will make some obvious suggestions (well, I think they are... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
whats the texas chain saw massacre about and which one is better the classic or the new version
A bunch of teenagers are having a road-trip-like thingy going on, but all the fun is ruined when they take the road towards the residence of a family of cannibals. I think the remake is better, but most people are jaded against new things and will say it sucks. There are a few more Chainsaw Massacre movies, maybe after watching either the remake or the original you'll be interested in those as well.
If you're bored or like superhuman evil:
Any Friday the 13th movie, but I'd still advice you not to watch Part 8 and Part 9. Jason X has it's qualities (as a ft13th movie), but it completeled de-railed the whole series.
Anything with Freddy
Anything with Michael Myers (Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is best avoided though, and Halloween: Resurrection is meh.
You might also wanna check the Chucky movies, but they really are horror-comedies (although I can't remember laughing while watching them). The Wishmaster series is interesting. Freddy Vs. Jason is cool, but it's not scary (worth watching for the final fight and has a few good death scenes).
I believe there are DVD collections for all these guys. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend these if you're not into b-horror or slashers.
If you really don't like B-horror I can only think of these four movies as good suggestions (right now):
Predator 1 (mostly action though) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
Psycho http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
Candyman http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
The Shining http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif
^ I highly recommend you get these on DVD.
EDIT: You should check this list for good suggestions: http://imdb.com/chart/horror

New version is a load of arse. TCM is a product of it's era. It's simple, ugly and blunt.
BTW this thread is supposed to be about good DVD's of horror films isn't it? Just not good horror films? Because there's plenty of good horror with horrible DVD's http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
That was the point.

TCM is a very good horror movie, it manages to be very effective without gore (the director was trying to get a PG rating). I haven't seen the remake but I imagine it sucks, the sequels were pretty bad too.
The new 2-disc version of Zombi 2 is supposed to be great. It's an awesome movie, easily on-par with Romero's Living Dead trilogy IMO.

So, you wanted the new version to be ugly, blunt and simple? It's true that if it was a 100% remake it should've been just like the original. So yes, as a remake it failed, but when I view it as a stand-alone movie I think it's better and scarier.

No the remake shouldn't have been the same as the original, that's pointless. The original was a reflection of the era it was created. And I guess the sequel was a reflection of our era being that it was over produced shallow rubbish with the same asthetic values of every other "teen horror" of the last decade and a total disregarg for the source materials social themes. IN many ways House of 1000 corpses was a much truer remake that played with many of the themes and took them in an entirely new direction.

I see it's just a matter of opinions (as always http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif). I like the remake more than the original, and I thought The House of a 1000 Corpses was a boring, dull and overall cheesy movie. Not bad, but not my kind of movie.

Uhhh no. TCM is a historically important film in the horror genre. The remake is a footnote in the appendix of non-events. Wether or not you enjoy it is oppinion. Its social positioning is not.

Your reasoning is not good enough. TCM remake > TCM original. I don't care which one influenced the genre. Had the original been like the remake everyone would've praised it even more. Frankly I'm sick of arguing on these forums, people are able to say your opinion is wrong far too often. Also, saying "uuhhh", "ummm", "errrr", or "ehh" doesn't help you prove your point. Good day, and good bye.

Why would they have praised the remake? Obviously everyone would have been amazed at the film stock since it didn't exist then. The remake has none of the original elements that were praised(Anti asthetic, social commentry, iconograhphic soundtrack). It would have predatedmost of the major teen slasher films which it copied(halloween, friday the 13th, driller killer, etc) but TCM isn't a teen slasher like the remake was.

Why do everyone think that the Japanese version of The Ring is better than the American version? I thought the American version was a lot scarier and better acting :-) The japanese version was dull IMO, too much of an atmosfear movie with mo climax

Bad Taste because of the making of and because it's Peter Jackson's first real movie. Peter Jackson created pretty nice stuff with no budget.
Brain Dead - It's just too disgusting but extremely entertaining.

My dad loves Bad Taste and Braindead, I should watch them.
And I prefer the American version of The Ring.

Thank you.
The original TCM is a masterpiece of cinema, which (without much blood/gore) cemented itself in horror film history. Instead of plastering audiences with images, it instead shocked everyone by creating a mindfxck of psychological tension and horror spinning off of Ed Gein's real-life misadventures of flesh upholstery. At the time of the original films release, the acts portrayed in the film were so unthinkably disturbing it made it terrorfying (today people are so desensitized anything short of babies getting thrown onto road spikes is considered mild).
The remake was a cheap bullshit cashin which instead of trying to recreate the beauty of the original, failed at even creating a semi-interesting cheesy bloodbath anti-drama about a bunch of idiot kids (who you cared nothing about) and ended up bored half-way through the film. Nothing but failed attempted shock images and a Leatherface who was reduced to a lameass boogyman.
