I talked to Ken Silverman today about his new engine Voxlap5.
You might not of heard of this engine, and that's because it's hidden away on his site. Usurper, being the good newshound he is, posted on RTCM (http://dukertcm.totalconversions.com) about it.

I've just noticed Ken has dropped the 5.
Not that anything else seemed to interest you much about it...
Usurper, it's just a cultural observation. When the film 'The Madness of King George" was made the producers dropped the III from the original play title because well - the audiences would have wanted to know where I and II were.

That's not fair. Voxel engines are rather limiting, they suck up memory and are rather slow due to not official (don't split hairs) hardware support.
The engine looks rather nifty. It would be nieve to say anything further from my point of veiw.

Yeah, it is a bit. Isn't it a miracle then how Novalogic got their engines running at lightning speed on a 386 with 16mb of RAM. http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
Then again, Novalogic is probably the only lot that have managed to do it successfully. The only other games to really use them were some of the build games (they worked pretty well actually, I like it - SW, Build) and the recent C&C:TS, RA2 and Dune 2000 from Westwood. Ofcourse there wasn't much point to it as you are stuck looking at it from the same angle all the smegging time, and the units only move in eight directions unless you blow them up and they bounce around.
