Is is possible to have Duke die if he falls from a great height and hits a water sector (0,1)?

Not without con code. In eduke, you could make a variable increment when Duke starts falling. Then set up sprites in the shallow water sectors near the bottom to detect what the player's fall counter has reached. Then you make the sprite subtract an appropriate amount of damage.

You can probably use the player member hard_landing for the counter without creating a new one, though I haven't tested to see if it works that way or not.

If the water can only be reached by falling (and therefore dying) it's simple. Use the water tile to make it look like water, but set it up to act like a regular teleporter that sends the player into a room too small for Duke to fit. Instant death. However, if Duke is going to be able to wade in the water from below the cliff, this won't work as he'll die as soon as he sets foot in the water.

However, if Duke is going to be able to wade in the water from below the cliff, this won't work as he'll die as soon as he sets foot in the water.Normally when I have to do something like that, I set the sky to a texture to something that will kill Duke, like Purple Lava (die quickly) or Big Orbit (die instantly).

But alas, I do need Duke to get down to water level later on. I thought it might have been simple enough to do because Duke (and aliens) splat on water sectors when they've been killed in the air.

Might just have to fence the cliff off or something.
