Not to offend anyone, but am I the only one that didn't like "Late Goodbye"? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Same here http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think the reason it was pop for alotof the people here is cause their in a diffrent region. Over there it's more folk (like what the song was) or here in the US it may fit the Country genre. I thought it was sorta lame though.

Pretty much http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But like any songs there are of course people who don't like them and alot who do.

Well, I don't think it's a "bad song", it's just not my taste. The musicianship of it isn't that bad at all....but it's just not for me. I think the song "Hey You" by Pink Floyd would have been a PERFECT closing song for the game. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I didn't like it much either, it's ok musically, but not my type of music.

I like Poets Of The Fall. Solid soft rock music. The singer has an interesting voice. Although on the live performance that I downloaded (link at POTF forum on their site) I thought he got many tones wrong. I liked the way the song was featured in MP2. When I played through the game the second time I noticed that the song was all over the game. I didn't notice that the first time. I was too compelled by the story.

As for "Hey You", Pink Floyd are one of my favorite bands, and it's a great song but it's always tricky to use widely known music because everybody links it to something different. If MP2 had ended with "Hey You" my thoughts would have been like "Hey, that's Pink Floyd. Why did they put in that song?". "Late Goodbye" was new. So I could focus on the sad emotions that came with the ending, and the song supported that.

It's cool ADM that you got the band to help out a little in the MP2 community. That said...

I liked the song alright in context, but wouldn't listen to it on it's own. My personal suggestion for different end credits music in MP2 would be Type O Negative's "Love you to death"

"Love You To Death", are you kidding? It's a great song, one of Type O's best but it would be totally out of context at the end of MP2. The song is about a man who wants to be a slave to the woman he adores and totally subdue himself to that woman, never knowing if he's good enough for her. And the heavy goth tune wouldn't fit the sad mood of the ending.
If I had to pick a Type O song for MP2 I'd pick "World Coming Down" but the whole 12 minute epos might be a little long for a credit song.
As for any other alternate song that could fit, I'd pick Anthema's "Suicide Veil". It's the saddest song I know. It might be too dark for MP2.

Well, it depends on how strict your interpretation is.

To me, Mona died because she loved Max, and the song, while not intended to reference that, would seem to be a good commentary on the way everyone Max loves always ends up dead. It's not as though late goodbye's lyrics are really connected to the plot either.

Just my opinion. *shrugs*

One last song idea: the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt. I think that would certainly be effective. I actually tried to cut a Max Payne fan movie once to that song, but never finished it.

"Everyone I know goes away in the end"

Well it wont be too dark coz Max already lives in the darkest environment ever descriped in any other video game. Now you guys will say that "what about all these horrifying horror games?". And I'd say that there's a lot of difference between dark and horror. Horror games are like sudden scares and ultimately they end the game with lots of scares. In MP2 the feeling is more like a slow poison which makes the player(you) suffer the more you proceed with the story. Though the story is quite linear but it still pretends to make you feel in a bit of dillema. Remedy has succeeded in making the best slow poison in video game (even its more than that in MP1).
BTW I like Anathema too http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. "Alernative 4" anybody?

Yeah, "Alternative 4" might even fit better lyricswise. With "Suicide Veil" being too dark I meant that it wouldn't fit well with Max's final lines in MP2 when he says: "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was alright." I think that line ruled out any suicidal tendencies, at least at the point where the game ended.

I agree that Max Payne 1+2 are among the darkest games that have been made so far. I don't know if there is a darkest game. It depends on how you define darkness in games. When it's just the sheer lack of light then the Thief games might be darker. In terms of dark themes I also thought Hitman Contracts was one of the darkest games I've played. But it had not the depth of the MP games. And still all those games are pretty mainstream.

Maxtream made a very good point. In the end of MP2, Max finds peace.....so in a way it's a happy endng. It's all how you look at it. I think the song "Dee" by Randy Rhoads would fit the ending very well if you were looking at it from the point of view of Max finally finding peace with the deaths of his loved ones. However, I think the song "Diary Of A Madman" by Ozzy Osbourne could fit well too.... but it's very hard to pick a truley perfect song to end the game because it's all a matter of taste. Perhaps "Outside The Wall" or "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, but like Maxtream stated previously, it's probably not the best idea to use a already well known song since that could take away from the emotions that come with the ending.

Just my 3 cents. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
