Hey guys. This will make post number 3 for me. :P I wanted to show you 3 screenshots of my possible upcoming creation, as I have shown my friends and they all think it looks outstanding, but they havn't played MP2 so for all I know its just the graphics they like and its not really that great of a level. :P

Here are the pictures:
http://home.comcast.net/~lupo316/nakatomi.JPG
A rough image of the outside of nakatomi, primarily to be used for outside cinematics.
http://home.comcast.net/~lupo316/shootout.JPG
Remember the "Shoot the Glass" scene in Die Hard, Hans and the blonde dude opening fire, thats this level. Totally not done. :P
http://home.comcast.net/~lupo316/lobby.JPG
Also undone, a rough glimpse of the front lobby of Nakatomi.

By all means, if it looks like crap let me know. I wanna know if Im completely on the amature map maker level and I should start smaller, or if Im on the right track to making something magnificent. MP2 Players and Modders are going to be my best bet on this, and not just my buddies who want to make me happy. :P Appreciate all the feedback in advance. My next project is to learn how to make my own PreFabs, because that is what will make a majority of the props in this mod, which I dont expect to have done anytime soon. :P Again, in advance, I appreciate any feedback you guys can share!

looks great but i think
the rooms are to big and they need to be more detailed

It doesn't look like crap, but it needs work http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Why is there a dark border going in the middle of the room both horizontally and vertically on the roof seen from below? Have you unioned sections into the room? If so, I think you've used an unrecommended method for making the room. That is a very important thing, getting the first room right, all the other stuff around it (like the building itself) you can do later.

Also, it doesn't really look like the Die Hard offices now does it? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif What I recommend is to watch the movie, draw how you think the area looks. Make that as a room, and then start detailing, don't put in Windows or anything. Just make the glass walls, make some desks and chairs, computers. That way you see progress earlier. And your first errors will be when you make Windows and the area outside, trust me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif So it's better to leave that until later, or get some advice on it. You're not without the eye for details, so keep it up. I'll be interested to see what you come up with.

Don't do the movie, it never works right as a game.

How many games have been as good as the movie they were derived from?

But yes, do a Die Hard TC that's original and yet quotes from all the Die Hard movies when appropriate.

A Die Hard feel will makes it awesome, but why tie your hands trying to recreate something that is more about cinematics than gameplay?

What's the movie where Bruce Willis has to run all over New York looking for bombs while the gold is stolen in dump trucks - Die Hard, Harder or Hardest?

Actually I think the offices with the glass Windows would kick ***** ass if made properly, and just place some enemies around it and screw the story (but try to create the character if possible)

well what do you think yourself of it? i mean, have you played mp1? looking at the screenshot i think one can say that it quite obviously doesn't even come close to mp1 standarts. right now it's not much more than very little and basic room geometry with (imho badly picked) textures and very few objects.

actually i think your whole current setting doesn't really work out. let me ask you one thing. have you used reference shots of the movie or any real-life reference to create this? to me it looks like you made the geometry up yourself. using reference pictures of real life is one of the fundamental things to gain quality. i remember my stuff looking pretty much similar to yours until i started using reference. and i'd never wanna go back to that again. another advantage of reference (next to the increased quality and realism) is that mapping becomes faster and more easy. at least to me it does that, because i don't have to make up the geometry myself anymore, but instead just start recreating it.

that's just my honest 2 cents.

p.s. most of my comments referred to the inside shots. the skyscraper looks alright.

So far the only reference I have used is the DVD movie, but I think next I will search for maybe some screens of the building it was really filmed in, hell, if I did enough research I could probably find the blueprint. :P But yeah I agree it is completely simple geometry ATM, and my texturing abilities is horrid. I think Im about a month and a half into it and I still cant do simple common things like Add an exit, a cinematic, a cool death cinematic, an opening door (I think I can do a door but I havn't tried yet.) :P And animations with triggers. So yeah I have an extremly long way to go, but in learning, I want to put things together, such as the die hard stuff. So really its just kind of my building block until I get it all figured out. But no, by all means, honesty is what I want, so no need to point out to me you're just being honest. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

P.S. I mean add an exit as in end the level, not an exit to divide the rooms. :P

Weeeeeeeell, hm...

Not really sure *ahem* what I think of the level(s) yet, but I can tell you this, if it will help. The building that is NP is actually the Fox building in downtown LA, and I can guarantee you that you can't find the blueprints, because movies are shot on these things called sets, which is basically pieces of buildings just recreated to look like the same place. Hopefully this will help some, plus I think that, yeah, you probably should invent your own story line.

P.S. Good Luck finding someone who sounds like Willis. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You know I saw Die hard a week ago and I thought that it would be very cool level design.

heh, no need for blueprints. usually what works quite good already is to take a bunch of snapshots from the DVD at the location you wanna recreate. you should be able to get the raw layout of the room geometry from there. after that is done you can go on texturing and detailling etc...

I think most online blueprints were pulled after 9-11? Though there may be a few scattered sting ops in effect - probably as risky as downloading music these days?
