Very exciting qualifier - some big surprises and it looks like the loss of engine braking and traction control is a huge success; the driving looks a lot more dramatic and on the edge, cars are moving around more and more drivers are going off track. Everything looks more alive and fun. :)

Anyway, here are some of the thoughts I have after this qualifying session:

What happened to Ferrari? What happened to Renault?

Hamilton kicks ass and BMW rocks the boat, Kubica would have been P1 if it hadn't been for the mistake he made, though P2 is very impressive with that mistake. Kovalainen shows that he can go fast and it is very nice to see two youngsters in a team doing so well.

I am very disappointed with Renault, Alonso didn't make Q3 and Nelsinho looks like Kovalainen did at this point last year.

Impressive to see Vettel's Toro Rosso in Q3 and very sad to see Webber spinning out in a puff of smoke from a brake disc that exploded.

Even though Timo Glock managed to join Q3, he will drop 10 places after receiving two 5-place grid penalties for changing gearbox and impeding another car during qualifying.

It is nice to see Toyota getting faster and I bet the corporate honchos in Japan have put tremendous pressure on Toyota F1 to deliver results after all the millions they have spent on the team. Also, I have to say that it was a wise move getting rid of Ralf Schumacher. Good riddance.

And let's not forget Honda, who looked to be destined to the back of the field, but now almost managed to get inside Q3. Is Ross Brawn an F1 God, and is Jenson Button his Prophet?
In about 3 hours the race will start; if I can stay up I will watch it live.

I will make a new entry after the race.
