What a cracker this qualifying was.

There were so many cars driving flat out to the very end of each session and for a couple of seconds, Fernando Alonso was on pole for his home race! Kimi Räikkönen was the only one left behind Alonso on a hot lap and there was no time left on the clock.

You could hear the Spanish spectators cheering for their hero. It doesn't really put a dent in the celebrations that Kimi managed to go 0.0091 seconds quicker because this result for Fernando and Renault was unexpected. Lewis Hamilton was shocked that he was down in 5th place, Kubica said there wouldn't be a problem beating Alonso and Hamilton was in agreement.

I don't know, Renault may be sandbagging. They have almost come out and said that Fernando was low on fuel, but why would they confirm that? I have a feeling they are playing mind-games, especially with BMW and McLaren since Ferrari seem to be in a league of their own with regard to race pace.

This weekend feels like the start of the season all over again. It would be awesome to see Alonso fight for a podium finish tomorrow and even if he doesn't get on the podium, Renault have clearly made progress over the three weeks since Bahrain.

Go Alonso! :)
