2009 F1 Round 2 Malaysian GP race: Button floats to the top, aborted race

The race was exhilarating for as long as it lasted. The start was very interesting, Button and Trulli were overtaken by a storming Rosberg and Alonso came charging up from P9. However, Alonso's car is not the best and he turned into a mobile chicane for Barrichello and a lot of other people. Rosberg led at the start from Trulli and Button.

Kovalainen once again retired on the first lap and Robert Kubica's engine sounded sick and he retired too.

Q1:
Ferrari really messed up in Q1. Massa and Räikkönen only did 4 laps each and parked the cars thinking they had done enough, but the times tumbled and Räikkönen was lucky he didn't get knocked out too. Piquet had a disappointing session, he's usually faster in the race, but the season isn't starting well for him. Fisichella and Sutil being out is no great surprise, but Buemi was on a fast lap and went off the track.

Knocked out thus far:
P16 Massa - Ferrari
P17...

Amazing stuff, Button had a great start while Barrichello bogged down heavily. He braked too late into the first corner and basically caused the accident where Webber took out Kovalainen and Heidfeld. Webber is the unluckiest man in F1.

We had two safety cars, the first when Nakajima made a mistake over a kerb and thumped into the wall. The second came when there were a few laps to go when Vettel and Kubica tangled. Neither wanted to give up and it ended in tears. They were both at...

Double decker diffusers and pull-rod suspension trumps KERS.

Hamilton's pole from last year was 1:26:714, Button's time was 1:26:202, that is over half a second faster. Barrichello set the fastest time of the quali in Q2 with a 1:24.783 which is about 0.6 off the 2004 lap record set by Michael Schumacher in a V10 powered rocketship.

The Brawn cars looks really good, pace wise and aesthetically: I really like the fluorescent green on the car, they look really striking...

If you've been reading my blog postings about F1 or if you've just noticed that I've been blogging about it and you don't really know what F1 is and what it is about, and your imagination isn't captured by reading, maybe the videos at the official Formula 1 site may give a clearer picture.

The videos that are available are from the 2008 season.

I can recommend the videos from the races in Belgium, Britain, Japan, Brazil, Monaco, Turkey, Canada...
