Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Damn, I want to be a level designer, I'm good with detail but don't have much experience with Unrealed, George, is there a possibility of sending you stuff done with other engines and then you give me a learning month to get all the features from the unrealed down?

Thx for the response... Duke look kick ass... Much better than the "teaser" Hair: OK Sunglasses: OK Desert Eagle: OK maybe a pipe bomb? if a pipe it's OK... Face OK...no more "Bruce Duke" It's now Duke again... thx for pic make my day :)

And the game features SUN! :D

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Looks amazingly nice. Of course we can't see the detail on Duke with the tiny gif, but this tiny gif kicks the living crap out of the last tiny gif of Duke. I think a lot of peoples complaints about Dukes look from the teaser have been dealt with.

Nice to see our first glimpse of an outdoor daytime scene in DNF as well.

and maybe this is a sign of them needing more people to make it on the xbox 360 yeah!!!

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Well I thought the teaser was bang on with the looks of Duke Nukem, more gritty.

Where can I learn how to map in this engine and what do I need for that? Probably it's much difficult than build, isn't it?

A good start for any Unreal game would be in making levels for UT2K4, or better, newer games like UT3 or Gears of War (pc).

Something tells me this has to do with multiplayer maps

The picture and new Duke look great, I've got little experience with Unreal ed, might get myself stuck into the GoW editor, too bad I live a little out of the way of Texas.

Syph 06-21-2008 12:48 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Well, guess that shuts me up. I thought that because he was talking about levels you'd remember 5 years later, thought that might be hinting at multiplayer longevity :)

George Broussard 06-21-2008 12:56 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Really it's both types of levels. There are just varying priorities based on timeline.

Syph 06-21-2008 01:00 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

You should do it Men in Black style, bring in some people, tell them you're looking for the best of the best of the best, then neuralyze anyone who doesn't work out... You have one of those things right?

Kristian Joensen 06-21-2008 01:03 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

So will these level designer be working on mostly existing levels or will they get to create their own as well ?

timothy2 06-21-2008 01:34 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

I think it could be both, as he expresses in the Gamasutra ad.

Can you tell if you have similar systems to Matinee and Kismet? Which both are in UT3 editor. Kismet being visual scripting tool, and Matinee keyframing tool.

How far off is the DNF editor from UT3 editor, since you broke of the enginebase around Unreal Engine 2?

AWESOME!!!:D DUKE NUKEM FOREVER!!:)

George sir please tell me how come you guys always mention 360 Support but not PS3?:D I sure hope there's a PS3 Version is my concern...;)

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

All this tells me is the game is still far from finished. Now you've got to look for a decent level designer to join your team, and make some maps from scratch that are worthy of DNF's standard.

It's still a long wait, but i'm sure the game will be awesome. I'd just hoped the game was further along than this, perhaps in beta stages.

They may pass on that to a different developer considering how much different it is to develop for the PS3 compared to the 360/PC.

Syph 06-21-2008 03:09 PM

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Basically PS3 is a pain in the ass to develop for, especially when porting from a PC version. So if they do decide to do that I hope they keep a very close eye on it, and not let a crappy version be released

If only I were a little older and local to the Dallas area, I'd be all over that programmer position.

They never said this was for creating levels from scratch. It could be a matter of polishing/finishing already existing levels.

Re: Level Designers or Programmers

Is that a Desert Eagle? Looks like a Colt. Or maybe because Duke is so big he makes a DE look small. :D

Still, it's bad ass!

It doesnt tell you how far along ANYTHING is. They may just want more level designers to get things done quicker so they can make whatever internal deadline they have. It doesnt say that half the game is still incomplete or that its near gold. It says NOTHING about the length of the dev time.

If anything, its a great sign that progress is being made, and they just want to plow the road home. :)

Cool pic.

That looks like a modded Colt M1911 or an ATM Hardballer. Don't think it's a Deagle. :censored:

From the first line of George's post, I was thinking that it was crunch time and they are pushing for a release of late this year. I suppose the point is that this could mean anything and it should not be read into too much.

Cool picture of Duke, though. I especially love the jaw area (that is one nice chin!)

Well Ok I understand but I sure hope there's a PS3 Version on Release Date alongside the 360 and PC Versions...;)

Syphilis is right. Even a 360 version might not see the light of day given they're not outsourcing it.

I do think he's too blonde though. That's kinda unrealistic. reminds me of little 5 year old kids with their almost white hair :(. Blonde means a little bit orange.

Level designer I don't know how to programme is it difficult but I can draw pictures, I got ginger hair ;).

Anyway I always wanted to make a Deus Ex map how easy is that. Old I know but on topic, Deus Ex was made in the Unreal egine ;).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...l_Engine_games

So that helped make them. :(
