laptop restarted on its own after I installed a USB hub
 

I decided to try out a four-slot USB hub that I found in my house a few weeks ago. I plugged it in to my ThinkPad, and the installation went without a hitch. However, when I plugged my game controller into the hub, my laptop immediately restarted on its own. After it restarted, most of my cookies were deleted.

Could this have been caused by a defective hub? I am not sure what the brand of the hub is; it only has a "Made in China" label on it.

Maybe a memory conflict? You say it cleared a lot of your cookies, was a web browser open? And if so, does it do it everytime you plug it in? If not, does it do this when a web browser is open?

After restarting, my laptop could no longer recognize the USB hub. It just displays an error saying that the hardware is malfunctioning.
