The Prey 2 Thread

id love to hear about everyone elses thhoghts on what the sequal should be like.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

My only suggestions for Prey 2 would be..

-DX10
-Physics engine (agiea)
-Smaller splash damage on RL
-A little bit faster gameplay
-Better Multiprey

and yeah, that's pretty much it... maybe dropping some weapons, and adding a few... or adding a new vehicle..

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

I would go with Hovak physic because I refuse to buy a PPU unless i get another ATi card with the drivers working.
maybe make the Sp longer and with better replay value.
The main problem i had with PREY was the MP part. While it was a blast for 2 days it got boring to fast. MP is what keeps a game alive if there is an almost non existing mod com. So throw in more maps and modes.
Not to eager on DX10 but why not...just make sure it's still DX9 compatible.
Don't make some dumb open ended game where people get the feeling they played only half a game...and definitly don't go episodic on us.
Well, better graphics should be a no brainer for the future. maybe more weapons that arn't standart gears with different names.
last but least put my name in the credits...or dedicate it to me :D

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

I have no suggestions for Human Head, they did an awesome job with PREY and I believe they'll deliver again on the sequal.

But one thing, weapon sounds could use a bit more umph. :)

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

More emo action from Tommy and for the credits.

Spoiler:

prey 1 to me- is not worth a third of the 62 dollars i spent on it- i like to play folks on line- well prey falls way short-

i will not buy anything prey again or anything eles from this company-

good luck:insomnia:

Well, that was constructive for a thread about the sequal.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

- Better combat.
- Better AI.
- More enemies.
- More weapons.
- Better use of portals.
- More reactive environments.
- More varied environments. Hopefully it won't take place on another ship or Dyson sphere.

Graphics and what not will be upgraded anyway so it's useless to ask for those. However, I wonder what engine they will use. UE3, id's new engine, Source, CryEngine, something else?

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

A single suggestion from me: do not make it Vista-only.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

just the facts dude-

and i think its a riot folks are asking for a prey 2- and i think people are silly who said they would pay extra for extra content for prey- well thanks- you pretty much made it where prey folks feel they do not have to add or give us much more of anything- hence 2 suck patches 4 new maps and few extra player skins-

you folks should be pushing for more in this game [ smooth the game- better player movement- weapon balance- more content and modes] and make it great- or folks that was ripped off on this game will not buy the new- common sense:insomnia:

Scott did actually mention that this is something they where keeping in mind now they are developing Prey 2.

We're not asking for a PREY 2, it's already in development. We're just speculating on what will be included and things we would like to see.

If you have such great problems with PREY, why not contribute to the thread and list the things you would like to see improved.

That would be hilarious, but if we ever see it, it will be in a mod (Cupid has nothing to do with Cherokee mythology).

YES!!!

The ship looked awesome, but it got kind of boring only being in the ship. I would have loved a possible Earth level (or something else).

Pft... what Cherokee mythology are you talking about? Cherokee mythology is ALL about Cupid, DUH!

Hm... or maybe I dreamt that... hmm...

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Count me against the notion that almost everything in Prey 2 should be interactive.

Nope. I do feel there should be a bit more interaction with the levels but they don't need to go over the top with it. Leave that for DNF.

I'd love to see the background of Tommy explored more in the sequel and his daily life on the reservation. Perhaps how he met Jen and how their relationship developed. ;)

More stuff with portals obviously. Alot more. What else are they capable of? What hidden secrets do they possess?

As Scott hinted at: more diverse environments. More diverse enemies. A bit longer story/game.

Spirit walking can be reworked/beefed up. Perhaps when Tommy goes into the spirit realm he now encounters enemies who are also in the spirit realm? Wraiths that try to steal his soul before he jumps back into his body? Possessing enemies to temporarily take them over(I know a few other games have done this sort of thing but I thought Prey really screamed for this feature once I heard of the spirit walking feature).

Just a few things.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

More cinematic momments.
Enviroments that make you go, "wow".
A.I. that works as a team. I also wanted more rival factions in Prey where certain races hate eachother and try to kill one an other.
Maybe a level on Earth where you see a city beeing destroyed as you try and leave it.

here is some stuff i want in Prey 2
1:Better physics like Havok or Ageia (personally i hate Doom3's physics)
2:More weapons
3:More and different enemies
4:Better AI
5:Faster gameplay

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

... I honestly didn't notice anything wrong with the physics they were using, people should elaborate what they didn't like, and if it's just in terms of "there were too many static objects" that's not exactly a physics thing, but more a design choice (they [human head] chose to make the objects static)....

So yeah I'd like more details please.

if i remeber properly there was a gun in the 1998 prey that involved two things being placed ont the ground which would summon portals to walk through allot like wat valves trying to do

I hope they keep using the same engine build so they can mainly focus on gameplay.
Maybe a few minor upgrades to the engine here or there, but nothing drastic.

And then you end up buying prey 2 because Prey 2 filled everything Prey 1 lacked.

Well I wasn't really thinking about Megatexture as in ET:QW but the version used for id's internal game.

I'd like to see:

-Original weapons
-Better enemy AI
-on Earth missions
-NPC's as in Chronicles Of Riddick.

That's all.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Needs:

1) More portal stuf - LOTS more. I want some downright dizzying mindgames with portals this time, not just the simple doorways & spawn points.
2) More varied environments. I understand the game took place in a ship, so there was only so much that could have been done. Still, it started to feel like Doom3 felt after a while with the same thing over and over.
3) As said, the weapon sounds need more kick to them.
4) A longer game.
5) It seems like all the interactivity was prior to the abduction. I don't need to tinker with EVERYTHING, but let's spread it out a bit.
6) Multiplayer bots. I realize with the portals & all that this wouldn't be easy, but MP games are useless to me without bots (no high speed available in my area).

Doesn't need:

1) Vista exclusivity. Not unless we're talking 2008-2009 release.
2) Spirit walk hints. As auto-difficulty adjusts, these need to disappear for more skilled players. (Or better yet, how about false ones? ;))

I hope none of these suggestions are taken by Human Head as gripes, as they're certainly not meant to be. I loved Prey!

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

I am keen to know what engine will be used for the visuals I am not sure if the Unreal 3 engine would suit PREY 2 but an inbetween of the Doom 3 engine and the U3 engine.

Actually what about a Doom 4 engine?

What we need to start seeing is total interaction with environments - you can blow things up and then perhaps regret it later where you damaged or blew something and wasn't supposed to but there is an alternative option but its hard.

Since the game is set around an Alien with death and blood and human parts environment the next game needs to make them more 'life like' and 'realistic'.

Also longer gameplay is needed say around 15hrs and with far better online coding and options.

More weapons and yes a better feeling with more power with the feedback especially through the Xbox 360 controller.

Maps need to be bigger with perhaps some side objectives i.e. Help out some folk that are in trouble and perhaps in doing so you will be rewarded later on by say their help or something.

Oh yes and finally please make the game 60fps on the Xbox 360 and...

Please ensure its released on PC and Xbox 360 ONLY ;)

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Most likely since HH are already working on PREY 2... it will probably use an updated version of D3 engine.

Kristian Joensen 10-26-2006 12:19 PM

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Yes that would fall nicely in line with what I said. Since the tech id are using for their internal game is derived from D3E.

Ofcourse HH might also just move along with their own changes ontop of a standard D3E.

However I don't think that is very likely, I except it to be D3E + changes from id's internal game + changes from Prey(if not made redundant) + More HH changes as neccesary.

Damien_Azreal 10-26-2006 12:59 PM

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Well Tim did state a long time ago that while they made their own changes to the engine they still received updates from id.

So is there an expected release date for Prey 2 (like '08)? Or is the release date slated as "When it's done"?"

Well with 3D Realms is is always WID, but Scott did say in the podcast that he excepted it out in 24-30 months from now.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

Yeah 08 sounds reasonable. But, as Kristian said, everything around is WID...

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread

What I'd like to see.

Better combat. The combat in Prey was mind-numbingly easy, predictable and overall very weak. No encounter felt challenging, and no gun felt visceral. FEAR is a great example of combat done right. It's just done right. Dust blooms, blood sprays, you can hear the brass hit the floor, the ragdolls look painful, the sounds are perfect, the enemies act and react fairly realistically. In Prey? Enemies refuse to shoot at you unless you stand still for quite a while, their movements are predictable, you never fight more than 3 or 4 guys, no gun feels real, the environment doesn't show any signs that you were there. It's just plain lackluster.

Difficulty levels. I know 3DR has a huge hardon for dynamic difficulty ( http://dukenukem.typepad.com/game_ma...justing_g.html ), but it really doesn't work. Prey was never challenging. It was more of a chore going through each battle rather than an experience. I like being challenged from the first encounter. In FEAR, playing on Extreme was quite a shocker in my first encounter. After that encounter, each successive encounter was even more adrenaline inducing. Quake4's General setting is also a fair bit of a challenge as well. Prey never once challenged me, even when I wasn't abusing deathwalk. There are no encounters in which you are seriously challenged. It's like the game was consolified badly. Enemies stand still or move very slightly left to right. They have terrible aim and you never encounter more than 3 or 4 guys at a time. Dynamic Difficulty either is broken in Prey, or is completely unnoticiable in a bad way. I usually killed most enemies before they even got a shot off. And whatever shots they did fire were horribly off the mark.

Better sounds. Most of the sounds in Prey were terribly generic. HL2 is a great example of a game that got the sounds right. Everything in that game just sounds right. Prey just has generic, forgetable sounds. You can't really recall what any of the enemies/guns sound like in Prey, but in HL2 and even HL1, you can easily recall what they sound like. Likewise, the ambient sound suffered in Prey. It was just not noticiable, in a bad way. HL2's ambient sounds were great for adding atmosphere and overall polish. Prey just didn't have that level of polish that all triple A titles should strive for.

No Deathwalk option. Deathwalk is absurdly stupid. Make it an option for players like me. I found it easier to take a header off a cliff than backtrack for that health spore I saved. Once I realized there was zero penalty for deathwalk, all the incentive to play "normal" vanished. The last few levels were a chore.

Improvements to story telling. There were like 5 or 6 levels in which the player had zero goals. It was right after you gain the spiritwalk abilities. You simply wander around the sphere randomly, without a real set goal. Your goal becomes apparent only after Enisi tells you to seek out the Hidden. Overall, I thought the story telling was weak and contrived. You could see Jen's transformation a mile away. The plot was not told in a very satisfying manner. The invasion of the Ancients appeared out of no where, with zero explanation and the player is left wondering WTF, where'd that come from.

More Enisis. Best Voice Actor Ever.

Longer game. I beat Prey in under 6 hours (5:47). That's simply unacceptable for a full price game. HL2:Ep1 was around 4.5 hours, Sin:E was about 4 hours. But those games were less than half the price of Prey. If Prey 2 is the same length, it definitely needs to be priced at a lower premium. A full price shooter needs to be at least 8-12 hours in length. 12 hours is probably the sweet spot in terms of content and getting bang for your buck. 3DR lamblasts the episode model, then puts out a game that is scarely longer than it. What's the logic in that?

Digital Distribution with Steam or not at all. It's simply not possible to do digital distribution outside of Steam. Many people, including me, won't even consider it now, especially with the demise of Triton.

Just finished the game

The interactive bit after the credits was cool, but i really wanted to see a little glimpse of the 1000's of worlds i saved. The beatifull green nature etc. I hope Prey 2 will take place there. I imagine walking through the beatifull weird planets (unreal 2 style), filled with portals, metal structures, and other incredible technology.
