Map release : "A Big World"

Sorry for the map name, could not think of a better one.

For those who don't care about my life, just download the map here.

Yesterday I was just roaming into my hard drive, and I found out some old maps I did for Duke3D (some are from 2002, but they are not that good).
This one (from 2005) must be the biggest I did, took me about 1 year and 4 months (exact time in the map author template). Since I prefer quantity over quality, it has lot of buildings to get in, and you can go almost everywhere you want. It feature 2 towns (one is half size of the other), some canyons and a secret base. The map is a bit spammed with monsters, but it should be fine if you play it in coop. Just because you read this, I'll show you first and second hidden buttons. Here are some screens :

Spoiler:

Download here.

Edit : I'll try to do a bug free release if some people wants it.

Really simple design, but could be fun to mess around with in coop. It is BIG as advertised.

Yeah, the title isn't kidding :) We played it in co-op - it was alot of fun, although the design is really sparse. Nice work - I liked the 2 seperate cities concept as well. Finding each other was hard though, but still.

Just played this and oh my shit this thing is huge, it's awesome :) Played it in coop though, otherwise the BLords would have gotten VERY annoying. (I guess this map is mainly intended for online play and hey it's fun) I like how you can go pretty much anywhere from the start without having to look for keys and all... really makes it feel like a concrete jungle. It needs shading though and it was rather empty.

I've just added it to this list if you care ;)

Thanks Sang :)

I was never that good for quality design, that's why I go on quantity.
Maybe I'll do some sort of "revision" for the shading. I got around 1000 walls left.

GADZOOKS:insomnia: that is one big level! With all the buildings, wide roads and open areas it reminds me of the game Carmageddon. Great job.

I can't activate the 1st hidden button, and the code at Bank is very hard ><

Re: Map release : "A Big World"

I didn't think I'll release this map when I did it. I need to fix various things.
Try to aim at the button to activate it, or jump / crouch until you can activate it.

As for the Bank code, it is 1101 at the entrance, 0110 to the left side of the door and 1010 at the right side.

Like it was wrote in a white house... I have forgot it.

I'll try for hidden button, thanks :)

Edit :
Works. You want suggestions about your map ? For exemple, I've found 2 doors that chnage to walls when you've passed them, or a boss in a garage that don't move. And few HRP bad facing. If this is interesting, I'll upload screens :)

He made this map back in 2002, i don't think he had any intention of making the map HRP usable then. (I know I wouldnt have)

I did put it on purpose, so the player just shoot him and realize it's a fake one.

I wasn't using the HRP at the moment. Well, except for DukePlus, I don't use it anyway.

This map is from 2005-2006.
I didn't post my 2002 maps because they are not that good.

Ah, from your post I thought this one was from 2002. My bad.

I came across this as well. It happens in the apartment building in Hollywood (near that open space with the Duke statue)

Re: Map release : "A Big World"

I don't see what doors you are talking about. If it's the elevators doors, you should have some buttons to the left, just press those with a green number and a red number. (I did teleporting elevators, so it needed those doors to avoid telefrag of other players. I didn't really try to do real teleporting elevators.)

And sorry for the wooden ST20 doors, I'm a bit lazy and I'll fix them later.

No it's the swinging doors.. Not sure what floor there on, there are some enterable rooms. Once you get in and turn around, a wall has appeared.

Re: Map release : "A Big World"

I noticed one of these, seemed to me like a 1-sided masked blocked wall.

Re: Map release : "A Big World"

Found it.
I'll have to redo some sectors to fix it. It caused a strange bug (white wall replacing a red wall or something).

Re: Map release : "A Big World"

The first bugging door in in the bank : when you enter in, you have a door. You can enter by this way only.

After, it's in an hotel, where you open windows by a button. It's the first room that have a bugging door.

Screenshots needed ?

I don't think it's just one room.

Wow, big map... It was fun to play through though, that's all that really counts. Good job!

Version 1.01 released, same link as the first release.
I fixed a few bugs in it (thanks to Mateos and Sang for the two bugging doors).
