Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

Anyone remember this? We didn't sell it for long, and it's been discontinued for ages. However, today.. :)

ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/freeware/wolf3dsu.zip

I've been able to find VERY LITTLE about it online, in fact this is the only good link with info on it I could locate.

Was a short lived addon pack for Wolfenstein 3D which had 800+ extra levels, a map editor, and a random level generator.

I used to have the original advert for this, but I don't know if I still have it buried somewhere.

If it turns up, is it worth it for me to scan it and imageshack it?

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

Well I finally got this to run, I had compile my own dosbox & wolf3d.exe from
the source code before it would run right though. I made no major changes to
either source code package...

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

For those, who have the same problem, that i had in the beginning, that wolfmaster offers you only the original wolf3d levels after selecting an alternative levelset:
Removing write-protection from all the files solves the problem.

@ Joe3dr: Could that write-protection removal be made into the downloadable package to avoid future questions by users, who are new to this?
Many thanks again for the great stuff.

Greetings
Funduke

Edit:
I just found out, that the write-protection was not in the add-on package, but in my original game files. I had copied the game data manually from the Wolf3d-cd on the hard drive and it played fine. But when new levels are installed, that requires to modify the original game data. And that was the reason for not being able to play the new levels.

Greetings
Funduke

Someone at vogons said it was nice to see 3drealms releasing such things, I credited you for it Joe ;) People need to be more appreciative of what you do you know. Without you some of these things would be lost to the ages and us nostalgia fans would just have to move on :D

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

In that package is Mapedit Version 8.1
For those, who are interested:
You can get Mapedit 8.4 and 8.5 here:
http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/utilities.htm

In fact, v . 8.4 is the latest version. Version 8.5 on that download page is 'Mapedit 8.4 modified so it runs without needing TPpatch on fast machines'.

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

I Knew about wolf creator and mapedit, but this Is different. I was wondering why wolf creator said "distributed by apogee" 1994 infinite carnage. btw the levels all have alike structure, If I knew C++ or C (I program in zzt, megazeux and qbasic) I would try to make a more random alogrithm

On my system does Wolfmaster run fine under win98se, but it doesn't load the add-ons, when i try it under win2k with dosbox.
Other people seem to have the same problem.

In the tread, about this add-on, that was started by Frenkel in the DieHard Wolfers forum here:
http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=3739
There is a user, called Chris, who posted the levels in extracted form (in the package wm_levels.zip).
So you can load them without wolfmaster.

I hope this helps.

Funduke

Yes.
I didn't play each level from the beginning to the ending.
It was (in this case) much more fun for me to start a level, play as long as it's fun, and then switch quickly to the next.

It's something, that i enjoy to come back to from time to time.

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

I found an unused original mailing for the Wolf Super Upgrades today when looking for something else. I scanned in the flyer, and put it online here:

http://www.3drealms.com/wolf3d/w3d_su_advert.pdf

Also in this mailing was also a letter describing the various features, and an order form. Those weren't scanworthy, as the letter was just a sales pitch describing the various stuff that came with it (most of that text is in the flyer anyway). Besides, who needs an 11 year old order form for an item that has been released as freeware anyway? :) A few things I had forgotten about:

It was originally made only available to people in our customer database who had purchased Wolfenstein 3D. Wolf customers got a discounted price on the pack. If you bought it from us before Jan 15, 1995, you got it for $39.95. After that, it was $59.95. The verbiage in the flyer implies that this add-on was only offered to existing customers. If this was the case, it might explain the scarcity of information available for this.

Anyway, something amusing at the bottom says that we also shipped a full registered copy of Wolfenstein 3D with it, which I find amusing as it mentions "being able to use all the cheat codes", which is a reference to the v1.4g stuff that was talked about here not all that long ago. :)

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Super Upgrades

Figured I had to put in that disclaimer image, otherwise people would probably start bugging us about how to get it. :) BTW, all the cool shit about our old legacy games is part of the reason why I have never purged this forum. There's some good info about old long discontinued games that I don't want to lose from here.
