Nobody sued nobody. 3DR changed their hero's name to Duke Nukum cause they were 'afraid' of possible copyright. It turned out that there wasn't any copyright for that name IIRC.

Did you play DN1? It says "Duke NukUm". 3DR always wanted to name their hero Duke Nukem, but they were afraid of copyright laws of Turner, that's why it all began with Duke Nukum. Like I said, there were actually no copyright laws at all, that's why they could revert back to 'Nukem' in DN2

Turner Broadcasting sued 3DRealms becuase of the name. Which for a time was why he was called "Duke Nukum". During the course of the trial, the judge decided that since they were on different types of entertainment (in this case, video games and saturday morning cartoons) and having no similarities other than the name that they werent easily confuseable. 3DRealms won. Also, the end of your sig makes me laugh.

That's not right. The first Duke was Nukem originally on v1.0 of the thing. After we did that, we found out about the Capt Planet thing, and changed it to Nukum for the v2.0 build of the original Duke. When we started work on Duke II, it was originally Duke Nukum II, but before release we found out we could use Nukem, so it was reverted back to Nukem. Nukem / Nukum has nothing to do with anyone being sued.

This has been covered a zillion times already, and is in these forums I don't know how many times, and on the Duke 1 page, and in the Apogee FAQ.
